Warhammer Forge Unleashes the Preyton’s Twisted Form

Warhammer Forge have released another creature which has been twisted by the dark forces of chaos, the Preyton.
While their appearance is truly vile, it is the legendary malice of the Preyton that makes them particularly dangerous. Corpses mauled beyond recognition and tracts of forest befouled and trampled betray their presence, the savage creature often discarding the torn ruin of their victims to rot, killing out of pure hatred rather than hunger. Little is known of their origins, but dark legend has it that in ages past they were Great Stags who were enslaved and corrupted before sacrifice-strewn herdstones. Now, bereft of their nobility, the Preytons know only an all-encompassing hatred for that which they have lost.
This twisted chimera of a creature is a true amalgamation of Games Workshop beasties. The sculpt is good, though it looks to me more like a bat-winged griffon with antlers, rather than a truly unique creature in itself.
What do you think of this dark monster of the forests?
Trust GW and Forge World to come up with something utterly corrupt lol. It looks very old school actually. Whether or not that’s a good thing I don’t know but it certainly is pretty original in terms of sculpting and idea.

That’s what I saw first time of reading! lol
Pretty savage and ragged looking – what with the shape of the mouth, the neck/chest fur and the bat wings it looks like someone crossed a stag with a Varghulf. It’s a finely done sculpt too, the various creature parts blend together quite well. Liking this model.

It always brings a tear to my eye when I think of those huge, vast tracts of land.
This is just silly… A chaos mutant version of the noble and classic monster, the Peryton. It’s only two letters off.
It’s like the real thing, only worse.

Aha! I hoped someone would address this. I got the Forge World email and at first I thought it was a typo, then I started to worry I couldn’t remember the Monster Manual correctly…
This model looks sweet, and seems very original. It looks like something out of medieval European mythology, and hunting it would be the perfect quest for an aspiring Bretonnian knight.
It is from ancient european mythology, and also a classic D&D monster. This one is yucky, if you like that sort of thing…
Then there’s the one from Center Stage that’s not bad, one from Ral Partha which is awesome (and a classic !)… And so on.
The WF one is the only one that doesn’t look even remotely noble.
Thanks for telling me–just typed in “Preyton,” only to find that only GW’s beast came up. So, I went to Center Stage’s website, and found a monster called “Peryton.” It seems that not only has GW heavily modified the Peryton’s appearance, they have also slightly changed the name to further differentiate it from the classic mythical beast. I do prefer the look of GW’s Preyton, to be honest; I think this model is just awesome. Thanks again for the information 🙂
Oh, I don’t know how I missed your comment about the Peryton earlier! It must have been submitted while I was typing my own first comment, and then I didn’t bother to go back and re-check any of the comments above mine.
Whole “corrupted magical creature” reminds me about Chibli’s anime movie Princess Mononoke and way some of those animal gods were corrupted.
I love this thing, but Forge world sort your painting out please, its just so drab, and monotone, I know its corrupt but it just seems lazy.
Reminds me of the creature made up from animal parts taken from the roundabout zoo in Royston Vassey. I think that one was a goat a monkey and a pig
