Black Powder Epic Battles: Revolution! is just around the corner from Warlord Games, playing out battles of the American War of Independence. Recently, Warlord has been getting a closer look at the plastic sprues you're going to be getting for this next chapter in the Epic Battles collection.

Infantry Sprue - Epic Battles Revolution

Infantry Sprue // Black Powder - Epic Battles: Revolution!

The first sprue that Warlord previewed was for their generic Infantry that you'll be able to use to represent both the Continental and British forces. The uniforms at the time would have been practically identical in cut and only differed when it came to the colour. That means you can get most of your force together from this set of sprues.

The sprue allows you to build your Regular and Militia Infantry, plus you get a Cannon to support them as they march forward. Your Regulars are the well-drilled infantry that you could depend on to hold the line when the fighting gets fierce. The Militia are those men dragged up to fight for one side or the other, making use of whatever "uniform" they could and shouldering whatever weapon was shoved into their arms.

The British Are Coming!

If you'd like to get more focused, then you can also pick up the British Infantry plastic sprue, which introduces a more specific set of troops for sticking it to the Americans.

British Infantry Sprue - Epic Battles Revolution

This set introduces a load of redcoats into the equation with eight strips of Infantry alongside a Command strip. Warlord did mention that the regular infantry could be painted up as Continentals but I reckon these little fellows would prefer to be red rather than blue.

As well as the Regular Infantry, you can also make a Command strip for the Militia alongside five Light Infantry Skirmishers and an Officer. A good way for you to zone in on the more "generic" sprue above and build everything to match your British collection.

Hessians & Allies

Get a look at what you get on the Hessians & Allies sprue that you'll be able to scoop up and slot in alongside your British, who were often outnumbered!

Hessians & Allies Sprue - Epic Battles Revolution

Hessians & Allies Sprue // Black Powder - Epic Battles: Revolution!

The British Army was made up of a lot of full-time professional soldiers but they were a rather small organisation compared to the American army arrayed against them. The British sorted out that issue of numbers with the introduction of Hessians & Allies to bolster their ranks. They were often the professional soldiers from the German states, which were leased into service alongside the British rather than working as traditional mercenaries.

If the tide was turning, there's no reason why the Hessians couldn't find their way on the other side of the conflict, fighting against the British if the leasing state thought the deal was better! This sprue allows you to make the Hessian Musketeers (Line Infantry), Grenadiers and the Jägers.

The set also introduces the Native Americans into the mix. Use these to represent skirmishers, trackers and local guides working alongside the British. The Native Americans fought on both sides, depending on what suited their interests. Many considered the British Army the right cause as it meant they might be able to take their lands back from American settlers!

Continental Choices

Finally, we also have the sprues for the Continental side of the conflict in Epic Battles: Revolution!

Continental Army Sprue - Epic Battles Revolution

Continental Army Sprue // Black Powder - Epic Battles: Revolution!

This frame is small but comes with five different troop types represented on it. You have the standard Continental Militia, plus a Command strip, which allows you to enforce a bit of order in the ranks.

You will also get the Pennsylvania rifles armed Riflemen (makes sense). They were hunters and outdoorsmen who were expert shots and fought as harassing and screening units on the battlefield. See an enemy commander? Take a potshot.

The sprue is capped off by mounted options with the Mounted Continental Commander, who can lead the way and Continental Cavalrymen, adept at running down British skirmishers should they dare to get too close.

A solid selection of options, as you've seen for playing out Black Powder - Epic Battles: Revolution! If you've been tempted to get involved, you can pre-order a range of sets to get you started HERE.

Will you be planning a Revolution?
