Steamforged Games’ Maelstrom Whips Up A Storm In Warmachine
January 8, 2025 by brennon
Steamforged Games are whipping up a storm in the world of Warmachine with a rather hefty new 35mm miniature for Cygnar. The Maelstrom, a towering Colossus is available for pre-order right now.
Maelstrom (Front) // Warmachine
The Maelstrom is powered by a cutting-edge storm core generator and makes use of this to power its vast array of weaponry that can turn your enemies into ash. In terms of weaponry, the shoulder hardpoints come with potent weapons borrowed from the Stryker Heavy Warjack like the Heavy Mag-Bolter or the Electro Bombard.
Maelstrom (Details) // Warmachine
As well as that, the Maelstrom also comes with a fearsome Storm Wave Projector and the choice of brutal hammers so you can crush your enemies as well as shoot them! Why would you not fry your enemies in as many ways as possible?
Maelstrom (Rear) // Warmachine
The left arm options for the Maelstrom could either be the Electro Harpoon Fist which gives you both a melee and ranged attack and the Pulse Fist which gives you a very strong melee attack as well as the Plasma Nimbus special rule. This is a powerhouse for the forces of Cygnar and I'm sure is going to find its way into several different collections.

Pre-orders are available for the Maelstrom until the end of January when it will be sent out and go on general sale. If you're currently working on your Cygnar army and want something to paint in February then it might be worth sticking in a pre-order soon!
Do you like the massive Colossals for Warmachine?
"Why would you not fry your enemies in as many ways as possible?"
It looks like an impressive model, but I had to look twice to spot the head, which is supposed to be the focal point of any anthropomorphic figure. That turbo engine on top of his head I think is in the way. Over all, I love the detail of this newer model, but if I had to choose; I would still go with the older Stormwall colossal. Just my 2c.
Dang, I thought the engine was its head too! This thing is a style disaster. All the right stuff, slapped together in the wrong ways.
I get what you mean? I did find it, but the generator on top is conspicuous. Maybe more focus could be brought to the head by having the eyes light up?
That said, I think I’d find it cool to have a non-humanesque cyclopean head on the machine, but I guess that wouldn’t really go with the style of the rest of the game.
i loved warmachine but its becoming too futhuristic looking to me
Ditto. Warmachine has some of my favorite minis of all time (Rhulic), but it feels like MKIV is having an identity crisis. There’s not enough “visual cohesion” between the factions; a few of them look like they come from completely different games. The game says it’s a steampunk universe, but here I’m seeing a hyper-futuristic Japanese mecha. Maybe Cygnar is the Tau Empire of Immoren?
I know that the financial cost of a model range shouldn’t define it but £120 for one miniature in a game they are trying to resurrect just seems a little, I dunno, premature.
Holy moly, I didn’t even see the price – that’s BONKERS!
Holy Moses, you are right… You can get entire army sets for other games for that sort of money.
Guess resurrection isn’t as high on the list as milking old fans. Are these prices for 3D prints as well?
It is about a 10% to 15% mark up from the old Colossi, I would say. Various colossi were priced differently back during 2nd and 3rd. They were expensive then and they are still expensive now.
