Entering The Warzone – Gassing Enemies With The Greyhound
September 4, 2015 by dignity
In this episode we're looking at a vehicle Imperials can use in Warzone: Resurrection, the Greyhound LAFV. This light vehicle has the the ‘Chimney’ Gas Cannon mounted on its tracks, one of the less common and very deadly weapon types in the game.

Want to know how to tackle the Greyhound? If you're a Backstage member you are in luck as in the XLBS Edition of this show we show you how this vehicle can be stopped in its tracks.

How do you use the ‘Chimney’ Gas Cannon?
One very effective strategy is to not just perform a Fast Move (aka a triple move) but to use a Full Throttle Special Action. Both use 3AP but the latter counts as a triple move with an ADDITIONAL 6″ of movement, at the risk of an AVV 1 hit to the tracks. Due to the high armour of the tracks on the Greyhound, it’s pretty unlikely that you will ever take damage this way.
This usually means it is possible to dash 21 inches from one piece of cover to the next (taking advantage of the Greyhound’s low profile to prevent LOS to it). Now combine this with the fact that the Gas Cannon functions like a Grenade, meaning your initial target is not actually a model but a point on the table.
In the example video, that point could have been to the side of the barricade rather than behind it (meaning no -4 to hit). It is often possible to move to a position where you can see a point to shoot at, but not the enemy models standing near it. The resulting template can be positioned over those enemy models without exposing the Greyhound to fire unless the models who survive the gas attack move out of cover and towards the Greyhound in order to get LOS to shoot at it.
If you are planning to pull this off on some melee capable models who have not yet activated this turn, you can use the “Toxic Discharge” active ability. Although this will reduce the Greyhound’s chance of landing the initial shot on target (not a big deal – it won’t scatter very far) you will be in a good position if some of those enemy models survive the gas attack and do move within 6″ of the tank, they are going to take another automatic hit against their CON..
Alternatively if you prefer the Greyhounds to give you some long range support you can opt for the mortar carrier variant instead. This will let you put down a Large Explosion template 32 inches away without requiring line of sight. Considering that the latest version of the Imperial book puts the cost of Greyhounds at 75 points each, it’s not a terrible idea to field three mortar carriers and saturate an area of the table every turn. Okay, it isn’t a very powerful attack but against basic infantry it should be pretty effective, particularly if they are clustered together or if your opponent has a gazillion Undead Legionnaires..
KS was fulfilled a long time ago. AvP is still in progress and while everyone would like it to happen much faster than it is, I have no doubt Prodos will deliver.
Again Macadamsoo: Unrelated post. This kickstarted game has been successfully filled. Im starting to see a pattern of intentional smear attempts here.
