Formalise. In Germany i.e. this would be legal state establishing the club as a Verein (think of it as a mix between a lmtd and a non profit org). Personally i’d advise very much against obtaining games, books or armies for the club, rather get things like tables, chairs, a BBQ for the summertime and such things.

I would alos advise to build up the rainy day fund so you can cover costs for a year.

A good option would also be to offer swag with your clubs logo, like t-shirts and dice. You could sell those off as well to finance yourselves a bit better.

You could also offer to cover fees for members struggling financially.
