    Hi guys,

A work opportunity has come up which would involve a move to Bute off the West coast of Scotland about 90 mins from Glasgow (including ferry).

I’m in two minds because my hobby is my passion and I’m worried it’ll be a move too far.

Anyone from the area got any input on hobby and gaming opportunities out there?

Don’t know about Bute itself but there is a good club in Ardrossan that meets on fridays I believe. I go to Prestwick club, we meet on a Wednesday night. Further out there’s clubs in Glasgow and Ayr too that I know of.

Nothing huge – but wouldn’t be surprised if you couldn’t find someone. It’s a fairly heady mix of peeps on Bute, so no doubt someone is into it – it’s not exactly overpopulated though, so you may have to do some vigorous recruitment.  There’s little to no “hobby support” outside Glasgow, however – namely GW and Static Games in the City Centre. There is a GW in Ayr, but it’s teeny tiny and you’re better off heading to the gravitational pull of Weegieland for your games shopping. There’s a few clubs scattered about North Ayrshire/Renfrewshire/Inverclyde (see Jabbaa for Ar-dross-an, and there’s one down Prestwick, one in Kilmarnock I’m sure, but therein my knowledge dries up) – but it’s a very small scene overall.

Not sure about bute itself but glasgow has quite a number of clubs etc. Glasgow games group or g3 for short has 80ish folk meet every tuesday night for a variety of games, board, rpgs, miniature games from bolt action/flames of war and saga for historicals to pretty much any fantasy/sci fi game you could mention.
