My sister makes her own custard because she likes it just right. Shop bought is ok, but always tastes a bit weird.

To me comfort food is cheese and oatcakes, cheese on toast, pizza, or possibly a pie sandwich.

Pledge update: managed to get a bunch of minis cleaned up and based for Frostgrave and found a mini for the painting comp – I forgot I had a Trish Carden minotaur.

Weekend cooking update – my food shop came without chicken or rice so no biriyani for me this week XD On the plus side they did mistakenly give me a full sized bottle of wine instead of the tiny wine I asked for.

@holly definitely going to try that gnocchi idea, sounds delicious.

@zoidpinhead I’d love to try cooking Beef Wellington but my budget just means I feel guilty about “experimenting” with such an expensive cut of meat. I recently rediscovered apple crumble cos a friend was giving away some cooking apples. Damn it was good; probably haven’t had it in twenty years and then had it two weekends in a row.

Squirrel update: yesterday was eviction day. This was what it had stolen from my neighbours over the last three/four days to start it’s nest.

Once everything was removed, I filled the gap under the planter with some chicken wire so it can’t get back under there to try again. Woke up this morning to see it had brought some supplies but abandoned the attempt and there’s been no sign since.

I wish I could let it nest here, I feel really bad about turfing it out but I can’t cede my tiny balcony to a rodent.

I used to have a side window beside a door at my last house; my Yorkshire Terrier could see the squirrels and loved them. I used seed to get them to come right up to the window for her, and they were not afraid of her at all – trained to kill rats in mines, right …

I really should try mashed potatoes + kale one day.
It is stupendously easy as a concept, but getting the perfect consistency for the mashed potatoes is a trick I have yet to master.
(if you don’t like kale then you can use spinache or any similar vegetable. )

The big issue is that these recipes are always calculated for a family of 4 and a couple of dogs for the left overs.

Anyways … got the equivalent that makes the microwave go *ding*
Needs more sauce to be better, but it’ll do for now.

Spent a couple of hours moving my boardgame and wargame collection out of the spare bedroom and into the gaming room.

I need to replace the carpet and have to empty the room as much as possible so I can move the furniture around.

When I see the pile of stuff filling a room and look at the games I may never play again I figure it is time to discard things. Trash some of the GW miniatures. Take some of the games to a charity shop. Strip other games of useful parts and junk the rest of the components.

It could be brutal and painful, but I feel it’s necessary. I’ve thought about this before, but never got around to it.

I probably should reduce my pile of potential to something a bit more manageable, but I haven’t reached that mental state yet.

I know I can be pretty ruthless when I am in such a mood, which may be why I am afraid of getting there. Not sure if that makes any kind of sense to anyone.

I thought I was finished painting the doors, but then I noticed that the blue border at the top on one of them is slightly out of sync with the other panels. I’m not 100% sure how to fix that yet.

I’ve had the wildest week. Monday was medical stuff. Went well.
Tuesday, I wake up to a woman screaming in my common area behind my townhouse. I put my clothes on, run out, expecting a domestic disturbance and I’m going to have to do something. Nope. An idiot’s kid let their pitbull out and it had killed her dog. A 7lb dog. No chance. I had to call the police, bylaw came after, the dog is now gone. I got to wrap the remains in a towel for the woman.
Then today I got a call from my Veteran’s Affairs case worker because I’m not using all my benefits and to start spending their money. WTF. Okay. Challenge accepted.
It’s been a wild ride. I need a break.
