because I’m crap at painting and lately struggling to motivate

I’m no genius painter. PaintComp is not about being the next Golden Demon. It’s about fun! I vote for a mini that gets me laughing over any prime paintjob. Not being motivated is a hindrance. But that’s ok too. Unless you really want to get stuff done I’d suggest to relax, read, watch Gerry and the boys and other hobby stuff you can enjoy without lifting a finger 🙂

The irony is I have time to hobby now, but the apathy I feel from my players is sucking the motivation out of me.

Watching others hobby does nothing for me.  I skip a lot of the weekender and videos in the week because the subject matter doesn’t interest me.

I know the irony. Almost every Sunday I could (in theory) do hobby from after breaks until bed time. But most days I don’t do anything productive. Doomscrolling on a PC *sigh* But I try to see those days the same way like those when my body says “go to bed” because I caught a cold.

If your players drain your motivation, maybe pass the hat of “being the one responsible to get stuff done” to someone else for a while? Let them to some work and you just do your own stuff you enjoy.

Pledge – I lost my steam last week, but I did manage to start the Deffdread. I still need to crack on with the basing arrangements for the rest of the horde. I await the Snazzwagon and an extra character (Snickrot, I think); still plenty to do finishing off for now. I’d like to get them all caught up and based before I get any new additions arrive, potentially they won’t be here until later in Dakkacember.  So crack on with the Deff Dread and get those bases done. Hurrah.

Also still contemplating water for the monthly paint comp, hopefully some inspiration is around the corner 🙂

Everyone wants a GM, but no one wants to be it … so it’s usually the same one that always gets to do it over and over again.

Finding motivation is hard, especially now that it is soo dark and depressing outside.

Definitely feeling the drain, which sucks as I had wanted to finally get my hobby room done (or at least ready for the next stage).

And of course there’s the inevitable distraction as I spent yesterday argueing with the dumb ‘AI’ again. I had this great idea for a thing, but I couldn’t get the bloody thing to do what I wanted it to. Instead I had to waste time correcting its mistakes over and over again. Not sure why folk think that there is any ‘intelligence’ in these things, because there isn’t any.

So here I am with at least 2 terrain-based projects that I want to start, but zero motivation to get going.
Maybe I should write things down for later ? I could always set the project to ‘private’ so no one can see it (although Gerry might).

@grantinvanman As long as you are able to get out call it a win. You can always use a propane stove to do some outdoor cooking if need be. A cup of hot chocolate while on a hike does wonders and it doesn’t need a fire pit. I suggest this as I don’t know if its a total open flame ban like I’ve seen in Colorado.

@pagan8th I will recount the line in the movie “Fido” that a man told his zombie girlfriend “No teeth”.

All stopped up and unable to move on in life because of psychological blockage? That’s it. Get that man an existential enema! I share something of great musical value that I can say did a damn fine live show years ago.

@Lazagram I feel your pain on how to get inspired. I only stumbled on an old project and will be giving it some new life. I will use water as a theme in future but it could be done with resin pours. This time around I don’t have the time or funds for it.

@limburger Set yourself up to succeed and feel good about it. I’ve put out a few “Army out of my head” entries on my random project and it helps against impulse buying. If you put up a blog entry with “I have an idea” you can flesh it out without using precious time/money/building resources. Keep at the things you think are cool right now so you can realize they are f*cking awesome when they’re done because you did it.

Pledge update:  I’ve set up the Fae elves project.  I’ve got a couple of posts on so far.  The latest is Not Safe From Weiners so if tiny fantasy tin wangdangles will offend your colleagues or web filters then best to look when you aren’t at work.

The Cloudflare issue is really bad at the moment.  I lost the first version of the post and then several updates, even when I tried it one part at a time.  It has taken over an hour to get one post done.  I’ll post a ticket on the Technical forum in a minute.

Here’s one of the images the OTT servers rejected on several occasions.  To be fair, I can see why:

@sundancer wants some suggestions for this month’s water themed PaintComp.  How about making a quick swamp base with some resin or glossy PVA.  Then put one of your X-Wing X-Wings on top – ta dah – Yoda has lifted Luke’s ship out of the Dagobah swamp.  There is no try after all 🙂
