During the UHH on Tuesday we were talking about early encounters with OTT and one that I remembered was a VLOG (but might have been an XLBS or two) where Warren had bought some Simba Superplay toy plastic castle kits and he and Justin were trying to turn them into tabletop terrain. They didn’t get far but did enough to prove that it could be done. Does anyone else remember this? Might have been around 2009? The kits looked like this:

It was an idea to do something with the kits I own for TerrainFest but I’d like to have a look at what the lads did to remind myself how to tackle the project.
December 11, 2025 at 10:08 pm #1953235Ok, a productive day to finish the store team. I have since started to paint another team in my collection. My ork team all have custom base nameplates and the same goes for my Lizardmen. I’m feeling good about hobby as I also magnetize the bases for my SAGA teaching army. I expect a package from one of my friends back in Colorado that holds a monster for it. Full steam ahead and forget the Dystopian Wars!
@zoidpinhead I agree with the project system on the image it rejected *pats on the back and give thumbs up* There is no place for sparkledong outside of specialty toy maker or content creator websites.
@sundancer Are you really going to repaint that set with all the weathering details and throw on vines? It would be water themed and show actual effort but the dust layer .ight absorb all the pigment and any glue. Better to chuck it in a fire and stay warm this winter that see it in any garbage bin. 😦
@grantinvanman *blink blink… starts looking for said golf course* There is a presence in the Force that cannot be ignored. With the weather for me still at tolerable temperatures I’d best do this before I get snow.
@limburger Awesome work! I have shared this as it is well worth the listen
I might be moved by the music to like ABBA.. not just for the visual
Ooh… neat

Me? Tempering with a vintage, genuine SW Toy I kept for decades? *muahaha* Never!
Now, still no idea what to do for PaintComp but I need to make a pyramid for Frostgrave Last game of 2025 will be next week XD
12 days until Christmas! PANIC!
December 12, 2025 at 4:04 pm #1953374So I did some hobby… and needed a shot of whisky afterwards…
Taken me about 8 hours over last couple of days. There’s a smaller tower to go with it that I will start another day.
There was swearing involved as TT Combat can be… testing… at times… and I need to add a base board as the damn thing is top heavy (there is a comment I could make about top heavy being a good thing… but you can’t say stuff like that in the 21st century without getting in trouble…).
Anyway… here is proof of hobby…

Still needs some tiles applying to the roof… a splash of paint here and there.
December 12, 2025 at 4:34 pm #1953375Neat tower, will look good painted!
December 12, 2025 at 4:37 pm #1953376@pagan8th Well done – that thing looks huge. Height is so important in a good table layout. I think you’ve got most other tables beaten with that one.
December 12, 2025 at 4:53 pm #1953378It’s 20.5 inches from base to top of tower. The other tower is 13 inches I believe.
December 12, 2025 at 4:57 pm #1953386that tower reminds me of a load of terrain that I want to build some time in the future, including a resin farm kit.
What are you going to use as a base board for yours @pagan8th ?
I’m thinking 6mm mdf or multiplex (sp?), but not sure if it will be strong enough as the final structure is not small IIRC.
December 12, 2025 at 5:41 pm #1953394I have some A3 sheets of 5mm mdf. I cut it square and glued the tower in the centre as it will stabilise it. I’ll texture it with something. I plan to use it in a Carnevale game and although the texture base might not quite fit the setting, I’m more concerned about stability of the tower.
I do have a cobblestone roller if I could find something to spread on the surface first.
December 12, 2025 at 5:56 pm #1953395Looking forward to the result!
December 12, 2025 at 6:57 pm #1953396@pagan8th I think PanzerKaputt had a trick for adding stone texture to his mdf manor house for baron’s war.
I’m tempted to think it was some kind of filler from a DIY store.I think greenstuff is a bit too expensive given the area you’d have to cover.
December 13, 2025 at 12:35 am #1953416I have the second BB team almost complete for me. I still have yet to finish my orks as they need some touch up from cracked resin I had added to the bases. The repairs in progress are easy.
@sundancer “Be like water” it’ll come to you. Find your hobby flow like Uncle Atom just talked about on YouTube.
@pagan8th You can talk about Top Heavy as a merit you can take in the rpg
Nuns With GunsMacho Women With Guns (amended after recalling the proper title but both are in fact games). People unfamiliar with the many games out there should be better informed about what kind of craziness exists. As far as height I agree with @zoidpinhead That really breaks the general playing plane in a good way.
Now.. some more seasonal insanity

December 13, 2025 at 8:05 am #1953447Macho Women With Guns. From the olden days when there were infinite possibilities in gaming, not just a choice of d&d or pathfinder.
December 13, 2025 at 10:17 am #1953452even back then everyone tried to emulate D&D though … and there were rules that followed the same naming pattern (Tunnels & Trolls, Castles & Crusades … ).
It’s what happens all the time when there is a popular thing. There’s a few that really try to be different, but a lot are trying to chase the same high by cloning whatever is at the top.
The thing that has been reduced is the kind of (some would say ‘immature’) subject matter that ‘macho women with guns’ tends to invoke.
But then there’s people like Venger out there doing their best to be as sleazy as possible (example : Alpha Blue )

I think it takes a lot less effort to get stuff published compared to ‘ye good old days’, but then that’s not always a positive either as there is a lot of garbage out there as well.
