More Armoured Might Rolls Out Of Flames Of War
November 30, 2013 by brennon
Flames of War are continuing the push for an armoured offensive this coming weekend with a new selection of tanks for you to take into the Arab/Israeli conflict. See what you think of them.
Above you have the AMX, M113, and M42 in order looking to lend their support towards whatever cause seems right during the conflict. Additional rules previews for how these work on the battlefield are included on the links above but what I like is that with the M42 you actually have the ability to tweak them, turning the tank into one from Tour of Duty instead. A bit of mix and match.
World War II fans should not despair though as they have catered for you with the T-34 Tankovy Company which will no doubt be supporting the release of Red Bear which you can also get your hands on now!
I have been playing Bolt Action to get my World War II for the moment and the one thing that has put me off Flames of War is that is seems so incredibly vast in scope and rules! I wouldn't know where to start past the Open Fire! boxed set.
What do you think of what's coming?

a
another great set of armoured stuff.. I so love FoW….
Now to put some AMX turrets on some Shermans 😀
Cant wait to see how nice those plastics feel on the table
I think Battlefront have decided that 15mm plastics are waaaay too good to ignore (thanks mostly to Will Townshend). I have Open Fire and have build the Battlefront M4’s and Fireflies and Stugs, but honestly, the Plastic Soldier Company versions are easier to put together and are more accurate and finely detailed. I would score the BF stuff at 85% versus the PSC stuff at 95% plus. But he great thing is, you can use all of them in Flames of War and other 15mm rules like Battlegroup Kursk (any chance of seeing Warren playing that, guys?)
With the AMX-13, M51 Isherman, Centurion and even the T-54, makes this a really interesting conflict in the FoW, looking forward to getting some.
Looks like I’m having the same issues, I persuaded my Mrs to get me Open Fire for christmas but passed that, I have no clue where to even begin looking! I can’t even make my mind up which army I want to collect because I don’t actually know what’s available!
I am a very new FoW player and have avidly followed the FowFTW series here on Beasts of War. Like some of the posters above me I felt overwhelmed after I had opened my Open Fire boxset.
Allow me to share some of my experiences:
I should start by saying my friend bought one too and we swapped the bits. I knew I wanted the allies and there was no hesitation…he wanted the Jerry’s.
I opened Open Fire and built the stuff. It took a while but it was a labour of love for sure, I just followed the supplied assembly guides and voila I have 2 american parachute platoons and 16 Sherman tanks..whew.
He and I both read the quick start guide and played a couple of games with that, while I spent free time reading the full rulebook.
We then started introducing new rules as we saw fit.
At this point the “Arms race began”.
We both decided we wanted more…but more of what?
Reading the rulebook we knew there were aircraft, lots of tanks and artillery.
Talking to the local game store owner, he suggested the twin pack, A Bridge Too Far/Market Garden books. There we would find full arsenals for the allies and the Germans. SOLD!!!
Two days after the book purchase we both tried to sneak into the store without the other knowing.
I bought a Typhoon. He bought a new Panzer IV platoon. My plane mauled his tanks gwaahaha.
One week later, I snuck in again and bought my artillery platoon.
He bought Tiger’s. Gulp!
He also snuck in and had a game with the owner developing some skilled to counter ,my planes and artillery…I haven’t beaten him since. grumble, grumble.
So now we have enough forces to play a reasonable game and we have the books with plenty of Intelligence Briefings (read Army Lists) that we can field different types of forces.
I am now focusing on the 2nd Household Cavalry list, so just bought 2 Staghounds.
I also joined the local Flames of War gaming club and faced a Russian force for the first time.
first turn I had a platoon of 10 T34/85’s bearing down on me. Again gulp!
Was great fun I learned a lot of new tactics…now where did my friend hide???
Checking out the Battlefront website I found lots of interestign articles including their Bootcamp, which I highly recommend new players to check out…its quite fun and informative.
Also I used their online store to get an idea of the available forces and different units available.
Hope this helps you fellow new guys sink your teeth into this awesome game.
Is there any truth to the rumour that Battlefront will be releasing WW2 German zombies in time for Halloween 2014?
