Foehammer’s 2019 New Year’s Resolution

I was layed out sick for more than an entire weekend, so that put a major damper on my progress on this project. Finally feeling human again, I was able to put in some hours over the last 2 nights on some completions. In this case, more of my previous WHFB dwarves. Now, most of these were already partially painted, I just did some cleanup and finish up after 10-years of improvements in my painting skill.

Perhaps my goal for my next entry will be to show a picture of the starting miniature, then after I’ve done my cleanup.

I also realize I still owe a quick tutorial on how I did my bases. Maybe capture that tonight as well.

Only a quick update today. Here are a group of completed dwarves. Most of these were already 50% painted, I just finished up the paint jobs and rebased them.

Had a bunch of chaos lying around, so I figured I’d paint up a quick kill team. I said this New Years resolution would be all over the place! I always liked the Iron Warriors, and Angel Exterminatus is one of my favorite Horus Heresy books.

Started with this slightly converted chosen champion from an old 40k starter set. He’ll probably be my leaders.

Quick update for the day. This time, what I chose to pull out of the box was some partially painted old WHFB dwarves. In this case 2 artillery crewmen and an old metal Bugman’s Ranger musician. Not only do I have a large old-school WHFB draft collection that would be good to get painted, but I’m interested in the upcoming “Warlords of Erehwon” fantasy game from Warlord Games. I love their “dice bag” activation mechanic, and I’m interested where they take it in a Fantasy Genre D10 system.

I will say, after working in plastic and resin for so long, I’d forgotten how easily metal minis chip paint.

This is a model my son got for Christmas for his British Airborne K47 army. These are Automated Mobile Platforms. They are light vehicles/walkers that provide some additional firepower to British forces. While very light on armor, as can be seen by the last picture, they pack A LOT of firepower for a model of their size, having either

• 3x 50cal machine guns
• a Medium AT gun
• A light howitzer

Overall the miniature was nicely detailed, came in only 5 pieces, and painted up very quickly. I think I need to add 1-2 decals to break up the green and I can call it done.

So, lets get started. In the future I hope to have more in-process shots, but the first few will be minis that I painted towards the tail end of my Christmas Holiday break. During that break I randomly reached into one of my Target plastic storage cabinets and pulled out the following miniature. Its a snake man from the original Shadows of Brimstone Kickstarter. Its not the most detailed miniature ever, maybe a good half-way between a board game miniature and a good Wargaming miniature. However, it was something very different from my usual miniatures so was fun to paint.

I still need to complete the base, and do some form of dry brushing to bring out the details in the scales. I might actually paint some kids of spots/pattern on the back scales to make it so its not all universally one color.

Thoughts?

As it says on the tin, my goal with this project/New Years Resolution to start making a dent in my massive pile of unpainted minis. I hope to grab something every day, and try and make some progress. If I find something in my collection that I absolutely can’t bring myself to paint, then I guess its destiny is the trash bin or Ebay.
