Harry Potter Bell Jar present

About the Project
My Brothers wife is an avid Harry Potter Fan - I plan to create a bell jar (plastic due to a young grabby child who is adorable but not the correct age for tiny fighting men) with a vignette inside of some of the characters - Snape being her favourite

The initial stages
So I planned to create a small vignette vaguely set on this scene:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zwCsbVrNZnI
Now many of you may not know but the miniatures for Harry, Hermoine and Ron can only be bought as part of the game – Luckily one person was selling on their set broken up.
However Hermoine did not survive (RIP) so whatever scene I did kind of had to not involve her.
The second set I got was the one with snape in the Hogwarts professors which I obtained from a store which was having a sale for £20! not bad, considering the price on the knights model website.
this added to the 20 for Harry and Ron I didnt think was that bad, however the prices of the knights models are quite high I feel (but we will come on to that later)
Now I didn’t take any pictures as I painted the initial stages but ultimately I followed alot of what these two videos stated:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FStHZpVaYsQ&list=WL&index=7&t=124s
and
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fav6rtHmx2o&list=WL&index=11&t=0s
I didn’t follow exactly but they gave me the basis I needed to help tackling the miniatures
Below are two images of the earliest stages I had.
For snape:
I painted a black undercoat on then:
For the cape I used a muted green: verde cayman green from game colour
and then used green tone ink over the top from the army painter series
I wanted to influence the capes with the colours of the houses.
I then dry brushed his suit with army warpainter deepblue and a little heavy blue and again used army painter ink blue tone.
I used my generic skin tone of natural flesh from vallejo which i then whitened a bit and hit it again
For Mcgonnagal:
I used goblin green (game colour) for the cape and green ink (Same as the above) wash
I then used a small amount of leather brown (army warpainter) dry brushed lightly as I wanted her to be less slytherin and more ‘earthly’
her clothes were just army warpainter uniform gray
and the skin was as the above (with a generic blue for the eyes crystal blue from army warpainter)
I will have to remember how I did harry potter and ron but I followed the same approach of bringing red into their capes and grays for the uniform but will post later
The initial bell jar I got was 3cm across which was too small, I have ordered a new one which is much larger and also has warm led lights around the side (which I hope will give atmosphere) I am going to use the cards from the knights models game which comes with the miniatures by hole punching them and tying them with a piece of rustic string to the top of the bell jar
The new bell jar arrived!
Firstly just a few better pics of the painted miniatures
I did a tester on the new larger bell jar, which has LEDs which I think will add a very harry potter “lights around the model” vibe whether its magic or illuminating candles etc
lastly I added in caulking and cut out pieces of card to the base for the stone floor, which I will paint and wash tomorrow…
the show down - finale
So I finished off the base by allowing it to try,
painting vellejo black primer on it
I used a makeup brush to then dry brush game colour opaque heavy brown on the base
then i dry brushed army war painter army gray
I then had little magents meant for my colditz project (which due to magentisation didn’t work out – it repelled meeples – kind of bad for a board game)
I glued some magnets under the bases (Which i painted the same as the above)
I then glued some other magnets the other way up onto the base and painted the same as the above
I then varnished the lot mainly for protection:
now it was mostly finished, so what is left are basically two albums of pictures (with and without glass – as the photos with the glass don’t do it justice – but the ones without dont give the ‘mystical’ lighting… so I did both (please be aware i have to polish the glass as it came pretty dirty
