I failed myself – or have I?

About the Project
I promised myself "no new system in 2019". And I made it to mid September 2019. But then my FLGS stabbed me in the back and put Battletech on the shelves. The big box and the 20 Euro beginner box. 20 Euro for two minis and a complete game. How could I resist? I couldn't. Hence why I went down the rabbit hole.

This Project is Completed
And so it begins
A little big box. Some reading to do because I never actually really played Battletech (expect for one game 24ish years ago).
I FAILED MYSELF!
And now some colours
So now I’ve had a bit time to get to know the miniatures and actually had played one game. What to do next? Slap paint on them!
I took a long and hard look at both minis from the Beginners Box and the Griffin gave me some headache. The Wolverine screamed at me what it wanted to be painted like and I couldn’t find any pictures of another Wolverine being painted like that. And what I mean by “that” will be revealed later.
Today I’m going to show you what my brain had made me do. I give you:
The Cyber Griffin
Yeah, not the coolest name but I like the way the mini turned out. Primed black, edge highlights with “Alien Purple” (Army Painter) and highlighted again with “Alien Purple” mixed with a bit of “Skull White” (Citadel Colour).
After that the glass in the cockpit got some “Blood Red” (Citadel Colour) and the arm mounted gun was done with a mix of “Matt Black” (Army Painter) and “Boltgun Metal” (Citadel Colour). As a finishing touch the red got a wash of “Red Tone” (Army Painter) with a bit of “Lahmian Medium”(Citadel Technical) mixed in.
Now you may wonder why I’ve made multiple images. I’ve used to different apps on my smartphone and I want you to chime in and comment on with pictures are better. 🙂
Even more colours!
So here is “that” Wolverine. When I looked at the breast plate up close it just screamed “I AM THE LAW” at me… well so I grabbed my “Enchanted Blue” (Citadel Colours), “Dark Angle Green” (Citadel Colours), “Blood Red” (Citadel Colour), “Boltgun Metal” (Citadel Colours), “Matt Black” (Army Painter) and “Oak Brown” (Army Painter) and went to town. This one isn’t finished jet but I think it already look awesome XD
And done!
Just a bit of “Nuln Oil” (Citadel Shade) and “Red Tone” (Army Painter) washes (both done in a 50:50 mix with “Lahmian Medium” (Citadel Technical) on the Wolverine and then “Goblin Green” (Citadel Colour) for the base and a bit of watered down PVA and static grass. I’m quite pleased with the result.
Maybe I should make a bit of Terrain? Hmm…..
A little bit of test terrain
So there isn’t any real three dimensional terrain in the box but I wanted to have some more eye candy on the table. How hard could it be to cut hex shaped blocks of XPS?
Answer: bloody hard if you want to have them evenly shaped…. XD
So after cutting, glueing and sanding I deemed them “good enough” as test pieces. So slap some modge podge on them.
After that dried I went over it with a ball of tin foil (should have done that before, doh!) and then slapped some grey over it
And now the usual
- drybrush
- wash
- letting everything dry
- drybrush
- add grass
done!
Hold on a second.
Only three years later and I finally started to unbox and paint the stuff I got from the Clan Invasion Kickstarter. Bloody hell!
Let's just start small
Don’t be to hasty. Start with some Clan Elementals. (Ignore the dwarf @brennon )
That went well...
…and since I now have “classic” acrylics and SpeedPaints why not use booth?
Speeeeeeeeeeeeeed!
And just like that, 5 ‘Mechs done.
