About the Project
For many years my wife carol has tolerated my hobby but never gets involved. Being stuck at home more we have started playing games. I'm starting small with cluedo and moving on I aim to have a full on table top battle by the time we are done.

Shakos and bayonets
A game of the muskets and tomahawks napoleonic version shakos and bayonets. Skirmish level with just three or four units a side. The British have been raiding French supply lines but are ambushed by French camped out in a Spanish village. Can the British get their booty across the table.
French line infantry blocks the way but their officer rolled up a lazy disposition forcing him to remain put
French get in a volley before the British and after seeing their officer fall they pull back but keep steady
One rifle units hope's to break through the village by going through the church while the French keep the rest of the brits falling back. The great thing about this system is the random nature of it with both sides playing cards to determine activation and events that throw a spanner in the works. My brits failed miserably but I enjoyed the game. Better luck next time.Chicago way
This month's game night at work is Chicago way ny great escape games. I acted as rules master for two groups of my work mates. The scenario was gauntlet. The gangsters had to get at least two models down the road and over the Canadian border. I supplied all the minusxand scenery but only one player is used to these sorts of games.
The random card activation is a great system for keeping everyone paying attention. This gangster tries to unload his Tommy gun on two yet to activate feds. Unfortunately a roll if a 1 on a D20 brings a jam.
Two mobsters drive down the street aiming to reach the boarder as quickly as possible scattering agents
The car received so many shots the driver lost control and ended up on its roof. As the driver climbed out he was executed unlawfully by the Prohibition agents. The following round had everyone drawing cards for a final show down
By the end of the game players were getting used to the event cards but a call from the restaurant beneath our building had some of the players having to leave the game to stop a leaking toilet from causing damage to nearby kitchens. I jumped in and took over the gang boss just in time for him to be shot deadFallout tutorial
My plan to get the wife to play games fell short during lockdown as she was still working while I spent my time painting minis for a year. However this weekend we had a go at the first tutorial scenario for fallout wasteland warfare. I asked her what she knows about fallout. "it's after a nuclear war and it's all 50s" was the reply
Carol took control of three survivor's attempting to rescue dogmeat from three super mutants. She got a bit freaked out by the complicated looking dice. I had to scratch my head and try and remember the rules.
Two settlers pop a few shots at a supermutant guarding dogmeat. The vault dweller sneaks around the flank. Meanwhile two mutants head off to check their snares. To win they have to check four snares.
This first tutorial is all about the combat mechanics. This game can get very complicated very quickly so the tutorials are very important to take it one step at a time.
My mutant guarding dogmeat is peppered with shots and is not very skilled in shooting back. In fact missed everyone. After checking a snare my hammer armed mutant charges in to help with som close combat and like an idiot swings over the humans head and fails to hurt anyone
The human than broke away from combat with out getting hit and fires once more at the centre mutant who finally goes down.
The third mutant after checking his snare moves back to dogmeat but is shot down by the vault dweller hiding behind the trash can
Being the only mutant left our hammer man runs to the last snare in an attempt to complete the scenario and ignoring the humans who are clear to free dogmeat. The dig joins the group and chases down the last mutant and brings him down. A total victory for the humans.
After a couple of rounds of confusion over strange dice covered in things that aren't numbers carol began to get the hang of it. She liked the scenery and we set the scene by playing fallout music. Carol has always been put off my large mini games so liked the small figure count of this game. I no she doesn't look it but she was happy she won Fury of Dracula
I’ve had this game since childhood and has been remade a couple of times but I prefer the original.
Dracula moves in secret but when he moves he leaves an encounter behind in a town. When a hunter explores a town they can figure out if Dracula had been that way. Dracula wins when he gets 6 vampires in the board. The hunters must kill Dracula. As Dracula I managed to slip the net a couple of times and got my vampires in the board.
House from Hell
Started simple after a game of cluedo to s fighting fantasy game book. House of hell is a good one to start with being a horror and not in a fantasy world. I think warlock of firetop mountain drags at the end with the maze section. Carol failed to realise you have to search around for items to win. In her haste to escape she injured both hands at different times before being caught and sacrificed to the devil. Better luck next time.
