In Memoriam - a statue for 28mm wargaming
I came up with the idea for this terrain piece while going through my pile of shame – or as I call it: The mountain of possibilities.
I purchased this Wallenstein statue from WarlordGames at a second hand miniatures market at a gaming convention, but did’t quite know what to use him for since I don’t play Pike and Shotte or similar games from the 30 years war era.
On Thingiverse I came across a file for a pedestal which gave me the idea of using some left over minis to make a statue.
The file is from the user Kimskell and can be found here: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2859068
I then covered the pedestal in a dust wipe cloth which I teared in shape to get little gaps between the fibres.
I then sprayed the covered pedestal with light grey and dried it with a hair dryer. Then the cloth was removed leaving a kind of marble finish.
The statue itself was primed black and dusted with grey from above. It was kept seperate from the pedestal not to spill any paint on the marble.
Then I gave it a coat of Citadel Hashut Copper but really any light bronze paint would work as it will be covered up in the next step.
I then used Dirty Down Verdigris to cover up the whole statue giving it a nice patina layer. After fully dry I drybrushed the statue with the copper colour as the patina is mostly rubbed off exposed edges in real life and it gives the statue a whole lot more definition.
The last step was gluing both parts together. It's important not to use too much glue as it would leave white markings around the statues base on the marble. The German Sentry is for scale. Here it is in all its glory. Thanks for reading and until next time!
