About the Project

Short project showing off some scratch built terrain for Frostgrave. TerrainFest expansion - October 2023 This will have new terrain pieces and a revisit to Frostgrave Terrain that was lost in the Beasts of War version 1 to version 2 crossover. (The old stuff was basically on a forum topic of its own and the new version didn't support it) I haven't seen some of it out of the box in years so I hope I can spring clean it into something I can be more proud of today.

Still haven't played it, but I believe there's a mission with statues that animate and attack the adventurers.Still haven't played it, but I believe there's a mission with statues that animate and attack the adventurers.
I bought a Mantic bits box from eBay. It was a treasure trove for kitbashing and these battered minis suited the statue purpose just fine. This was my first attempt at bronze and verdigris and I still think they'll be fine for a one off mission.I bought a Mantic bits box from eBay. These foam card steps are wonderful. They seal like lightening when using super glue so don't expect any movement or curing time. Bit of flint to show wear and tear. Dry brush and a centre point. One dead dwarf lord long forgotten and one large scale potion caldron. These foam card steps are wonderful. The minis seem to fit just fine on the new terrain. There's often a problem staying true to the amount of movement you have when negotiating ladders / climbing etc. Depending slightly on the basing my ladders allow the mini to stay closer to the actual movement and height minis have been able to get to.The minis seem to fit just fine on the new terrain. The terrain laid out looks quite good. I think I need more walls and ruins, but it's nice to see them down on the table. Years ago I picked up some pound shop sticky backed paper (probably draw liner?) The pattern looks like snow / ice / rubble? But doesn't really draw the eye away from the terrain which is great. The terrain laid out looks quite good. I think I need more walls and ruins, but it's nice to see them down on the table. I had a very similar piece of packaging that got the same treatment. This time I only built up one side to hopefully make it a slightly different prospect as you decide to scale it.I had a very similar piece of packaging that got the same treatment. The make shift nature of the piece and last minute repairs all adds to the narrative that these represent in my head canon about these. The make shift nature of the piece and last minute repairs all adds to the narrative that these represent in my head canon about these.
I like the ladder. Two kebab skewer lengths glued together on one side and same again on the other, connected by rungs made of coffee stirrers.I like the ladder. Two kebab skewer lengths glued together on one side and same again on the other, connected by rungs made of coffee stirrers.

I made my own mix of snow which I am happier with. The straight up 4Ground snow static grass tends to blow away once dry. So I mixes it with some glitter and some flower soft to give the PVA something to bond with and hopefully hold onto more of the lovely snow static grass texture.I made my own mix of snow which I am happier with. My blend of snow is mostly the 4Ground but a small addition of the flower soft and glitter seems to have less blow away.My blend of snow is mostly the 4Ground but a small addition of the flower soft and glitter seems to have less blow away.

These packaging pieces have been found in the seasonal / sale aisle at Lidl. They worked out well for my bridge and watch towers. These packaging pieces have been found in the seasonal / sale aisle at Lidl. They worked out well for my bridge and watch towers.
I start with the planking of makeshift staircases and platforms as in the previous pieces. I start with the planking of makeshift staircases and platforms as in the previous pieces.
I build up the sides with supporting pieces, all supported with PVA. These three supporting pieces aren't coffee stirrers. They are an odd shape. Not ice lolly sticks. Not tongue depressors. But sadly I can't ID where I got them from.I build up the sides with supporting pieces, all supported with PVA. These three supporting pieces aren't coffee stirrers. They are an odd shape. I used some contrast colours to pick out a few planks with the intention to use another wash to stain it all anyway. The first coat of contrast would hopefully give me the colour variation I was looking for.I used some contrast colours to pick out a few planks with the intention to use another wash to stain it all anyway. Then I got bored and sprayed it with Dirty down. This has left it pretty dark.
