About the Project
Lord of the Rings. It's a thing. And my daughter loves it. So much she's seen all Peter Jackson movies (yes that includes The Hobbit ones) multiple times. So what would be a nice gift for her birthday? A nice little diorama!

Finishing touches
After a nice painting stream all minis where properly painted. After that, all that was left was adding Talent In A Bottle (aka wash) to pull it all together.
Now all that is left is the base for the diorama. Wish me luck!
Doing Basework
So after some glueing, cutting and cursing I finally made a little base for all of minis.
Here is a picture of the rough cut of the base with the minis on it
What I didn’t take a picture of was when I used some spackle to fill all the gaps. But after that dried I slopped some PVA on it and a ton of sand.
Now waiting for glue to dry.
Battlefield!
After the glue has dried there was some paint applied. Cheap and cheerful paints from the hardware store. Black for the trim, dark brown for the right side, plain brown for the left side and some lighter brown for the stream in the middle. Also some tiny rocks and stones.
After that some more PVA on top and a good helping of static grass and tuffts.
Final touch: UV activated resin for the stream
Next will be the backdrop picture and wooden frame to keep it all from getting dented and then some miniatures will be applied.
Done and dusted!
What a journey this has been. Things didn’t turn out as I wanted and I was (again) to impatient and cut wood not “good enough so I had to improvise!
The wood box I build was supposed to make a perfect fit with tight edges but because I cut to close I now have gaps. But at least the backdrop is fitted.
Then a light bulb appeared. Or rather a string of LEDs. And a few moments later I had cut 6 pieces of wood, glued and nailed them in place and used a LED string light to make “a starry night sky”.
And now: just add minis!
A final shot from above before I add the black cardboard background.
And now with all bells and whistles!
