8th Army “I’ve got sand in my boots”

The beauty of an airbrush! Vallejo Primer Desert Tan 73.613 applied to the infantry, a mine detector team, Vickers MMG, and mortar team.

Plus all the accompanying bases cut from plasticard in 20x20mm and 25mmx25mm.

Some of the pieces needed to be removed from the sprues this time, and mounted on finishing nails. No biggie!

And finished!

Added a defining wash of 10:1 Burnt Umber to AK Thinner (an alcohol based thinner); pumice gel on the base, washed, and then highlighted. Added flock and tufts. Done!

Next up, likely 8th Army British desert infantry.

Victrix 12mm Denison, only needs bases to be done!

After a marathon morning, I finished the painting of the Denison Victrix in 12mm reinforced platoon.

Basing not finished.

These are going back to Victrix for their website… my new secret project can now be revealed!

Day two progress!

Slogging through!

The figures from yesterday are based, but don’t have pumice gel and flock (I needed a finer gel for the scale).

Half way through the rest of the platoon!

Victrix WW2 British Airborne, from their outstanding 12mm line.

I have British Airborne, US Airborne, US Infantry, Russian Infantry, and the new 8th Army British desert infantry to paint.

I started with the “hardest” (for me), doing Denison at this scale.

Basing will come after, I’m aiming for a reinforced platoon amount of figures.

All paints used were Vallejo Model, except some GW Contrast sparingly. About 15 paint colours and blends used…
