I Need More TC Terrain!
I’ve been playing Trench Crusade on my “Silesian Trenchline” gaming board for quite some time now. I even managed to take the entire set to the largest TC event in Poland earlier this month. The set works and met with a lot of positive feedback regarding its playability and looks. That being said, all these past games made me realize I’m not done with the set. More and more I felt like missing on some key features that might improve the fun.
VERTICALITY:
Trenches, low barriers, bunkers and sandbags – all great, but aside of trenchline levels there’s barely any overall verticality. In my opinion a proper skirmish gaming board should have at least some elevated platforms – some difficult to access, whereas a few should be easily accessible by snipers/long range shooters.
HARD COVER:
Another feature that I felt was missing. Again, bunkers, trenchline and all the stuff provided plenty cover to standard infantry models, but anything larger than your typical human was usually visible from across the board.
On top of missing features my gaming board had one major drawback that ruined the experience for me.
LARGE ELEMETS:
A few pieces were large. Not just large, but like ‘LARGE LARGE‘. It wasn’t that much of an issue at home, but once I started taking my board places, it filled the entire trunk of my SUV. You can understand that was little problematic. I decided to cut and split a few pieces, then fill the exposed areas with vertical wooden walls to add extra visual features to the set.
The Deed is Done!
Two evenings of scenery crafting and the Silesian Trenchline seems ‘complete’. I mean – for the time being at leas 😛
“Reset the clock!”
I will be back with more scenery at some point – I’m sure of it.
