About the Project

Fallowpass Mire is a small scale, two player skirmish game, where two opposing Warbands consisting of three Characters per side battle over the control of the central Objective. Control over the Objective is the most effective way of scoring Victory Points that are calculated when the round ends. The swamp is riddled with Environmental Hazards and the combat is built around accumulating Status Effects on the enemy Characters and choosing optimal results from the Clash Table. While it’s hard to deal direct damage and eliminate the enemies that way, your positioning and choice of Combat results is a crucial element of the game and rewards using the environment to your advantage.

Fallowpass Mire is my entry to Rule of Carnage: GREEN JAM 2025/2026, hosted by Alexei Vella, ManOKentGames and Planet Smasher Games and it’s subject is color GREEN – “The game MUST be about the colour or concept of GREEN, in some way”. Another guideline was accessibility to new players.

My game takes place in a (poison) SWAMP – it’s an homage to hilarious and fun PvP encounters in all the swampy areas in Dark Souls 3. If you know, you know and if not – I hope you will find the enjoyment in bashing your opponents into poisonous fumes, blighted briars and deep mires and immerse yourself in the chaotic nature of the skirmish on a forsaken swamp.

The mechanics are based around:

  • alternating activations
  • area control
  • enemy displacement
  • status effect accumulation

Each character has 3 actions to perform during their turn – they can Move, Attack, use Special Ability or Rest.

During Combat players roll the number of dice corresponding to either their Attack or Defense characteristic + the number of Fatigue tokens opposing Character accumulated. The winner gets to spend their net successes on a Clash Table – a “menu” of effects they apply to the defeated opponent.

Status Effects and Environmental Hazards play a vital role when it comes to positioning and your chances in battle.

Usually in games when Characters get wounded or accumulated negative Status Effects, they do less. In Fallowpass Mire, due to stacking of Status Effects – the game ESCALATES towards the end. The further the game goes, the bigger the dice pools become and Combat gets more lethal!
