Stormraven Leaked (Maybe)! Pants it’s F****G Fuggly!
November 12, 2010 by warzan
So after all the waiting we have a possible leak of the Stormraven (hence forth the Stormtoaster!)
BigBri's original post here: //www.beastsofwar.com/groups/warhammer-40000/forum/topic/weird-gw-site-problem/
Is it Real
For:
Looks like a genuine pic on GW studio terrain.
We have been told by an insider to expect a Landraider with wings.
Now would be the time we would expect to see it.
Against:
Holy C**P its soooooo ugly.
Could be a conversion as it lacks any really sharp details.
Did i mention it's soooooo ugly?

definatly not liking that looks a bit on the small side to me
I mean I guess it’s kinda in keepin with the other Space Marine vehicles … chunky and a bit silly, the problem is that unlike the tanks the WHOLE thing isn’t chunky.
The wings and tail just look so flimsy and rediculous, to my mind something akin to the Tau Orca would have been more in keeping with the marine style, a landraider with 4 massive boxey jet engines, but then that’s kind a Taus thing, atleast something like the Thunderhawk which proportionatly has much smaller thicker wings/tail compared to the size of the body.
Also nice to see that it is in true GW vehicle scale, it looks like you could just about fit a 5 man scout squad inside that thing, a 10 man tactical squad with gear though….nope.
One thing I instantly got wondering though, are there really enough blood angels players for this model to have been made, assuming it is what everyone thinks it is. Will we see a similar stunt to what they did when the plastic giant was released, suddenly EVERY army can take them.
I would say that this kit could be really good for the Ork kitbashers, but realy most Ork vehicles can be scratch built from plasticard for way cheaper and look just as good if not better.
Whats wrong with it, I think, is I can see nothing actually holding the oddly-shaped wings onto the ‘body’ or holding the back end of the vehicle up.
Something more like a Valkyrie would be more suitable, or a downscale Thunderhawk.
And I have heard rumors that Grey Knights will have access to Stormravens too.
PS. BOW 2girls1cup? :O
don’t look up 2girls1cup. Some things you can never forget.
Leaked by Warseer? I think you’ll find it was leaked by me on here a good 10-15 minutes before Warseer got hold of it lol
Pants lol
Good Find Big Bri!
Next time drop us a pm matey and we’ll jump on it lol
I like it, looks exactly right to me. It is chunky and it looks like it is up to the task of carrying landraider onto the battlefield. If I had a BA army, buying this would be a no-brainer.
Nope, don’t care what anybody says, I like it.
Why didn’t they just do a beefed up valkyrie? And what effin’ use are multi-melta’s on a flyer. Rubbish. Mind you, the thunderhawk has always looked a bit daft, let’s be honest.
not that nice lookn model
It’s look like a container with wings… just too small.
Those shipping container looking things GW used to put in their books to represent a drop pod or command center….
I’d rather slap a pair of Valkyrie wings on a Land Raider then this.
Well I’m letting it soak a while in the stew pot I call a brain… initial though… they cut the front off a Thunderhawk, mixed it with Valkyrie parts but used the instructions from an Eldar Falcon to assemble it….
When I saw the model, I thought it looked funny. I don’t play BA, but this would still look hilarious on the battlefield.
Looks like it’s ready to give birth!
In the 41st millennium, airplanes don’t need to obey the laws of physics or aerodynamics. Would be totally funny if some smart-ass ran this design through some kind of physics software. Give us a good idea of how this baby would perform in the skies.
Anyway…kinda reminds me of the “Spruce Moose” plane on the Simpsons
Unfortunately the Valkyrie also dodges some of those laws.
It’s too narrow, lets be honest…and the wings are just weird making it look overall – very very silly indeed!
I’m no blood angels player but if I was I’d steer very clear of this – sorry GW, unless it’s in a “bargain bin” for £5 I wouldn’t look twice.
it looks like a tin box with thrusters attached and by the shape it looks like it will spin wildly out of control because its so fat at the front. and then explode with a satisfying crash. thumbs down!
All that anticipation for nothing..
the wings look like they came off a valkyrie
There was so much ideas comming from the internet about how guys put up “REALLY NICE LOOKING” conversions of a Stormraven. I think they would have used them. To my taste the Valkyrie is a great model and I tougth they would have made something very nice with it.
Probably they were to much in a hurry. Like you said, John, they just put wings on a toaster with a lasecannon turret on and “VOILA” what the big creations groupe came with. Perhaps all the good desing ideas were used for the new Blood Angel minis. None left for this.
No Not good. I will use Modified Valkyrie or just plaine one with my army’s color and that’s it.
very, very sad……………….
It reminds me of the Fat Man atomic Bomb. Details on it are superb but I think its the shape of the vehicle that makes it kinda odd looking.
Also it just reminded me of this:
=O
there was more than one Brave Little toaster movie!?!!?!
I watched that movie like a hundred times. I had no idea there was a second one!
You could put wings on a turd and it would look better than that.
if it is the storm raven and it comes out boycott it.
If thats a Land Raider its a 1st edition land raider!
It looks like a really detailed and really zoomed in Epic model until you see the marines.
One of the GW Staff guys in Belfast made his own out of a rhino and a valkyrie and it looks way better.
@tigernexus I actually really like the other marine tanks, but this one looks like a kids ‘jumbo jet’ for 0-3 year olds.
I saw that conversion in Belfast and i have to concur!
I think its cute. Me wants one. 🙂
Looks kit bashed to me I can see at least 3 kits in there thrown together, I don’t think it’s a real stormraven but just a very bad scratch build of what someone thinks one should look like.
I pray to all the gods of every universe that this is a hoax and is only a conversion. OMG if it is not. What drunken GW employee thought this up? An Ork player!
Hey even this would be an insult to an ork player. That thing needs a lot of plasticard in order to make it ork worthy!
happy to have brought it to your attention =)
I have to say though that in reality I suspect most of the negative comments come from first appearances – but having looked at it several times now (and having had a night to sleep on it) I find that the main oddity is the wings, the engines after all are pretty marine styled, it’s just the wings look flimsy.
As for the cockpit and turret, well despite initially not liking them myself, I find that they are in fact very reminiscent of the styling of other imperial flyers (Marauders, thuderbolts, arvus lighter, etc), and actually the cockpit’s cover is the same style as that of the Thunderhawk.
This is a model that I reckon will grow on people – it’s just not what they expected. It will however never be classed as one of GW finest creations unfortunately.
As for me, I reckon I might get one, chop off the wings + engines, put on some beafier guns, whack on a set of big chunky wheel and make myself a generic all-terrain goon buggy for use in Inquisitor.
it should look like this!
well it may not look like much, but it makes a damn fine slice of toast
Frankly?
I love it. It looks fairly close to what I thought it would.
Well, I thought it would be a bit wider and longer, but one can not have all.
😉
Ok, it is not brilliant but I feel it is ok.
Don’t be afraid to stand up for liking it!!! 🙂
Some will like it others wont, but don’t be afraid to state your case here matey.
Still think its horrifying though 😉
the model isnt the best looking, but it does look like you could a hell of alot of customising on it, and maybe even make it longer so it looks like it could carry the right amount of troops. would be cool to see the conversions after it comes out, im proberly going to buy it just to do that.
Thousands of years of technological development to come up with a flying brick.
I think GW will make a big loss on this one. I always wonder, when GW release a model that looks pants, if anybody had the balls to say, ‘that looks crap’, or do they actually think it looks good. Did they actually consider the dynamics of how this thing would fly, looks like it’s built to nose dive into the ground.
Nice facials from Warren and Lloyd though.
Is it being released on April 1st 2011?
That was about the same reaction as mine Warren shortly followed by a slightly maniacal laugh. Makes me glad I play Eldar, my army might get called pansies/sissies but at least the vehicles look like sex on whe… anti-grav engines!
Nobody said it wouldn’t be Land Raider MkI with wings 😉
It just looks so tacky, saw the post on your Ultramarines screening vid and checked it out.
Ok, yeah, it’s sick if it’s just a conversion, or scratch built, but I expect better models from GW.
I have to say it’s disappointing. However, this is early days. I’m concerned the camera isn’t doing the thing justice. If it’s tall and thin that just won’t look right. The dakkadakka image was rather what I was hoping the Storm Raven would look like. That’s a model I’d hand my money over for.
Still, it could be a bad photo. Here’s hoping.
bubbles15 – The camera doesn’t lie!!
I’m going to enjoy shooting the buggers, so damn ugly. Hey look at the bright side, more Mon-Keigh dead.
It doesn’t look like a toaster. It looks like one of those car-sized garbage containers, or a newly designed garbage truck, only it’s painted red and has wings. It even has garbage-bin looking turbines under the wings.
However, it is completely consistent with everything Space-Marine-ish GW has ever produced so far. I mean, all of the space-marines tanks and vehicles look somewhat like said garbage containers, with added caterpillars.
hmm, what ever the opinions of the stormraven there is something else in this pic, possibly a new furioso dread in the top left corner, what do ya think?
One thought – kinda in it’s defence, but I still don’t like it myself. Not sure if this helps, but being painted red doesn’t help with the toy like vibe.
It can’t look like a guard flyer/transport, which are old school and look like flyers of today.
It can’t look super sleek and streamlined – eldar and tau have that covered.
So looking again at the rhino and landraider for a starting point – a stormraven does kinda end up here?? Plus the forgeworld assault ram does have similar styling…
http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/Warhammer-40000/Space_Marines/Space_Marine_Aircraft/CAESTUS-ASSAULT-RAM.html
Problem with th Ram is it reminds me too much of the Cyclon Heavy Raider. That being said, I think we’re running out of cool designs to call “alien” or “futuristic”.
The conversions currently done by players, blow this modle out of the water. Maybe GW can get some pointers from these people?
work on your grammar: it is “it’s” not “its”
No capitalization or appropriate punctuation? If you are going to correct someone, at least make sure you correction is correct.
I think that if you convert it, it could look “quite” good- remove the wings and add some wheels it could be some sort of battering ram/ siege tower type thing…
Pregnant valkyrie is my verdict. Could be a useful kit for converting though.I wouldn’t get one, it’s pretty ugly in my opinion, was expecting much more.
i think it looks quite terrible. why didnt they just shrink a thunderhawk?
I think it looks pretty neat!, it’ll do for anyone who don’t have very good or no modelling skills. I think converted stormravens are a lot nicer though.
Ugly. Thank G I’m a an IG player.
It’s like a mini cooper landraider with wings….
Dun like it either. Looks like Squat engineering.
Was at a local event a few weeks back and saw this nice conversion:
ill have to see it from a few different angles before i say ill never get one. it cant be any worse than that forgeworld ram thing……… i wish they would do a thunderhawk and be done with it.
it doesnt look like “storm” to me more like ” hey tuck, whats on today? football and beer? ok, im there but i dont have any clean cloth,” like a kind of “hooligan-mobile”.
a big meh from me guys. not really impressed and i would so cut it down and remodel it.
regards marduk
Not a good model, but if you look at the thunderhawk as source material, you can see exactly how this design came about:
http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/Warhammer-40000/Space_Marines/Space_Marine_Aircraft/IMPERIAL_EAGLE_THUNDERHAWK_TRANSPORTER_WITH_LAND_RAIDER.html
Chop the tail off, expand the wings a bit and add a gun mount on top and you have the picture above.
I think the problem with it is the valkyrie style wings. Just because the valkyrie looks amazing it seems GW have decided it would look good on the stromraven, which isnt the case. As others have mentioedn the wigns arent chunky enough compared to the main body(hull?) of the ship. As well as that its too short, if it was longer it may not look so bad.
…for a squat transport it looks perfect!
I’ll admit, not my cup of tea (shame as I was hoping to field loads of the buggers!) but I am a bit worried about some of the vitriol on here: this is, after all, someone’s work.
What would people have liked instead?Having looked at the Eagle Tinracer points to I can see where this came from – I think we need to see more of it, from more angles before deciding completely against it.
I think Lloyd said it all, “Eeeeeeeeeewww”.
I like it, can´t wait to get two of these and paint them gold for my Sanguinary Guard.
I actually don’t mind it at all.
i’ve put off doing my own version of a storm raven for almost a year while waiting for gw to produce there own,
if this is it, well, what a waste of time.
it has spawned some ideas for a kitbash of the SR and a Valkyrie but would the cost of such a build be worth it
It looks like the Orks looted a toaster and then turned it into a garbage truck and then stuck a couple of jet turbine engines on for good measure.
You say that like it’s a bad thing when that actually sounds awesome lol
Oh good lord, it looks like a frigin brick with wings.
I sort of looks like a conversion to me. It reminds me of the military choppers that carry crates. They have a gap in the mid area where drop cables hook up to said bin and off they go. I can see a tank fitting under the back end. But yes it looks like poo. Not my thing.
Can I wash my clothes in it???
Not so sure about the model not the prettiest of models depends on the price of it really.
Personally I think it looks like a squashed Thunderhawk that has mated with a Valkyrie.
Maybe, and I hope to god I’m right, that this is a prototype that they painted up and they are working on another version, if not…oh well
Is it cool? Not really, but to be honest I’ve see way worse models come out of GW than this one.
It’s kind of shabby but bet to found them in dozens on the table after the release
I don’t mind DA doesn’t have them though
Yet another flying brick in the wall.
not a fan of the Imperium’s attempts to make bricks fly up to now, and this is no different.
At least they are being consistent lol!
It kinda looks…. cute…. I keep imagining it growing legs and doing a little dance whilst chirping!
Like some sort of sm pokemon.
Anyway I think its too small for starters, flimsy wings, blocky tail etc etc all the stuff thats been said previously I agree with. it just doesn’t look real, or functional. But I look forward to all the converted minis built by people who’ll be inspired by this kit to make a conversion rather than buying.;)
Why so bulky? Bigger than my kids toys! Problem is ass long as it’s any good on the tabletop we will all eventually buy it.
so still no ones clocked the new furioso?
Well the only good thing it has is the mini Thunderhawk front, now that I got that out of me.
Its ugly, its not ugly because it is a brick with winds, pretty much was expecting it, its ugly because its a mismatched brick with wings, engines seem to grow out of nothing and be attached to nothing, wings are even worse and the back is ridiculously empty, what you expect me to accept a dreadnought is dangling back there while the bloody thing descends from orbit and dodges AA fire? sure in a comedy show.
Anyway that was a high profile release that should have got more attention.
This is what my reaction was upon hearing a pic of the stormraven had been leaked and then my reaction to seeing it.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H3YaKl9yFtY
urgh… It is all squashed at the front and the back wing is mige.
I think it’s Tits! It is bulky and gives an impression of strength andd toughness. Its like an H2 hummer. Its like a bulldog. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr. Yeah Stormdog!
I’m thinking a plastercast of my fizgog with wings for lug holes
Blood Angels disembarking down my tongue/ramp out of a gaping gob would be prettier, and probably more aerodynamic! lol
Wonder what I could get for that on ebay? 😛
I don’t really mind it. Would I buy one… no. Would I field one I got free yes. It does kinda look like they were trying to give it a B-17 Flying Fortress feel… maybe it’s the turret on the top.
But I think the main problem is as Vendile mentioned, the wings are flubbed. They’re set to far back giving it an unbalanced look. You can either extend the tail section back or what I think would be a cool idea would be to move the wings forward invert and swap them and rig up some sort of rotating or ball joint so they have a v/stol look, or at least more obviously so if it’s already supposed to be one. And would have to do something with the exhaust ports at the end of the wings too… those are definitely bleh.
It’s almost like Warren was watching something like 2girls1cup and filming his reaction.
When can I have flying toaster of Dooooooooooooooooooom!
…Well… It looks more like a V&W bus from the 1970s.
I want one!
As a Blood Angels player I’m definitely disappointed, but I don’t hate it with the fury of a thousand suns like a lot of other people on here. I really don’t like the idea of the turret, and I think that the pic is taken at a weird angle. I’ll definitely pick up a couple of them. I can convert what I don’t like easily enough.
as a BA player ive been waiting for a pic of a SR for seems like ages…
am i disapointed? a little yes i expected something a bit grander. if it is indeed the finished model. personally though i dont think its as bad as some make out. to me though my biggest problem with it is the scale, it needs a bit more lengh at the back and slightly bigger wings.
The only real problems I have with it are the engines and wings look a little too far back, and the assault door looks a little too small, I mean I don’t see an Assault Marine getting his Jumppack through there very easily.
Also something I think some people are missing, it looks like there is a second set of thrusters on the front behind one of the marines. Something else to think about (I know I have been) is that it’ll be a plastic kit, a material that is VERY easy to convert, so if there are parts you don’t like, change them.
I for one can’t wait to get my hands on one to see if I can “adapt” it into something more suited to my tastes (see the first paragraph).
they could have done better
bit of an understatment that, hahaha, and about all of GW
I believe your rating this junk as Kak is incredibly, and unbelievably generous. This is absolute junk. I wonder what the ridiculous price tag on this… abomination is. GW has proved it to us now, they really dont care about their customers, and they keep releasing some ugly ugly models.. no bloody wonder its been hiding for so long.
I’m quite surpirsed by the extreme reaction against this model. It aint pretty but jesus it aint the elephant man either.
That said it is disappointing, maybe it’s prettier from other angle’s (hopefully).
I really like it, it looks just like the rules for it made it sound. I’d for sure get one or two for my blood angels.
Besides how else are you going to hang a dred in the back?
well i dont hate it…much
Its a bit.. meh to me but I think that its just missing too much at the back… I hope this is a conversion.
Of course it’s missing stuff at the back, it needs space to hang a giant psychotic tin can, would you wanna be stuck in the cargo hold with it lol.
Why not? Think about it, if by some chance one of the scouts got a bit to frightened to get out of the ravens you stick a dread in there and now you don’t have to worry about billy not getting out fast enough.
A bit small, but i like it!
To me it looks like a perfectly serviceable STC. As it happens i kinda like it, and it will make a great wreck as a terrain centre piece. That is until Space Wolves can take them, then i will love them hehehe!
Anyone else think that we’re being trolled by someone at GW?
I hope so… There goes my plans for a GK army right out the window! 🙁
i spent 1 hour looking at that picture trying to find anything that looked even slightly aesthetically pleasing. i found several things, the marines and terrain around it hahaha
Uhhh…I like it…:D
I like it. It is not perfect and I do agree with the comments about the wings. That is not enough to stop me from expanding my Astartes collection and making the Stormraven a centerpiece of a new force though. Overall it looks like the other wacky/chunky Marine fliers.
It’s OK, I like it mostly, a bit deep(tall) maybe, but it looks functional which it should do.. A Rhino x’ed with the drop ship from Aliens.
how to make stormraven
1) take thunderhawk
2) take razorsaw
3) saw thudenderhawk to two pieces
4) shape the wings
voila theres your fugly flying piece of garbage that is what i think of it
thats what it was meant to be, we decided that the original was too short and front heavy so we balanced it out and went down a more thunderhawk route
why did rick leave GW! WHY!
That is defiantly one of the ugliest things I have ever seen. A toaster with wings looks better than that piece of chap. How can GW make such nice looking models like the new Dark Eldar and come out with such an ugly piece of crap next?
I have looked at it over and over again and have come to the conclusion:
I love the upper part, the cockpit and the turret. Looks very STC and in line with the R and the other marine flyer. I think the main hull should be a bit wider (10%?) and about 20% longer. The engine-housing should be remodelled so that it does not look like just hanging in the wing.
Generally I feel it is a good Beta 0.8 and I love the basic design.
It looks very imperial to me. Like all the things they have: A somewhat ugly slab of brick with a dirty “we do not know how to do it better and f++ck elegance” attitude.
And then it kills you.
Well if you guys don’t like it, don’t worry because I just found out its not it and it was a proxy’d stormraven that was on display at the gw hq showing how someone converted it. so phew! haha
Care to explain yourself?
I was told that that pic was just a build someone else built and it was displayed at the gw hq.
where did you find that out?
I posted this picture on a forum and asked around and thats a response i got.
Whether this is the real deal or not, I wouldn’t be surprised if it looked something like this.
It’s an assault troop transport, true, but it’s other purpose is to lift Drednoughts to the field. As someone else mentioned, it looks like a heavy lifting chopper:
I actually think it looks pretty good. Better than most of the conversions I’ve seen, and I have seen them all. I can’t wait to add it to my BA army.
Oh wow. This picture explains much more than words.

You know although this model isn’t the most pleasing…. I feel like all these negative feelings could have made the creator of this model very sad…. I’m sure he spent a long time making this, it is very creative and is well painted.
Upon close examination… It does kinda look like maybe an extreme kitbash,
Lascannons-sponson
Front hatch-landraider front
Wing flaps-cut rhino top hatches
Hrrrm maybe maybe not
it looks like a up armoured nerf football but kit bash it with a valk and………..you might save it but just maby
looks like a landraider with wings
doesnt look bad 😛 i would like a storm raven in my chaos marines 😛
It would look fine with a dread on the back. Without the dread……….. yeah the death toaster not very scary. It’s like “look at my death toaster filled with nipple marines”.
You know what they say, a flying toasters, toast… toast!
But seriously, for all we know It’s just a bad PROTOTYPE. Right?
They couldn’t make the body longer to thin it out?!
It’s really could be a more slimmer looking.
See I think it’s too tall. Admittedly, it’s “landed” so that’s adding height..
I dunno. I’d like to see more images. I’d also like to see how they’re going to kit out with typhoon missile launchers and hurricane bolters.
I actually like this model (call me crazy). but can anyone else notice the furioso dread on the top right corner eh ?
Im still unsure about how i feel about the Stormraven? But i hope that different angles will show it off in a better light.
Others have mentioned the Dreadnought, it does look like it has Blood Angel specific icons?
I’m keeping my fingers crossed for a combination kit that can make a furioso/libby dread.
Agreed totally FUGGLY. Melt it. Job done. Nough said
dear god i acuttly feel sorry for blood angel players. my advice buy a landraider and a valkarie and convert it your selves. that thing is balls sack the guy who came up with it sreiously its bad
It’s not what I was expecting – was hoping for more Valkyrie-like. It’s not too bad though. The rear half looks a bit odd and the front a bit chunky but maybe the photo isn’t doing it justice.
Interestingly enough, you can see a few good glimpses of this in the ultramarines movie trailer #2 which was released mid october. Not the same thing of course but after watching the trailer a few times it shouldn’t have been hard getting a pretty good idea of the look of the model.
Fuggly is my new favorite word.
it looks more like a rino crossed with a thunder hawk. i mean come on what is that?
A rhino crossed with a hawk? That would be a rhawk. I’m pretty sure that is one abomination the universe wouldn’t tolerate, to bad GW haven’t read that book.
😛
i actually like it. I will maybe even buy one even though i dont play BA
It does look like a toaster, but can’t handle bagels…
ugly not practical.
I think it looks ok, they could have done a lot better but they could have done a lot worse too.
It is fugly. Why do GW want to all SM vehicles look like rhino?
i rekon it looks pretty cool but its to short and stubby, if it was longer and had more weopons it would be awesome. but yea it does kind of look like k9 =D
