That’s meant to be 00:00 BST, right? 😛 Looking forward to reading through it though! Can’t wait to see what the final minis will be like, and glad Mantic are putting dwarves back into space 🙂
I’m interested to see what the background is going to be for Warpath and each army, and what all the wars are meant to be about, what the universe is, etc. Will it be generic sci-fi battles in space or a specific world created for the game? Guess I’ll just have to be patient and see what Mantic come up with! 🙂
I’m excited to see what changes from the alpha, and I’ll be buying some Forgefather minis once they’re out if they’re as good as the kings of war dwarfs, but I’m really interested to see what some of the other races are, I’m guessing corporation and rebs are two factions of the same race or races that don’t get on and Asterians are elfs, but that could be totally wrong.
wohoo, on it like white on rice
I’m looking forward to reading the rules but I have to say I’m not to enthusiastic about fantasy in space.
CDK , without any fluff, which we havent had any of , please dont damm this , its bound to be something , but what else out there isnt ‘fantasy in space’
well got my email…downloaded and skimmed. Off to beta feedback i guess
Ive only read up to armor, but so far this is leagues better than alphas. I can really tell that alesio listened and took a lot of feedback to heart. the terms have been changed to be more scifi-ish, things are cleared up ruleswise, diagrams are helping, and tons of other cool stuff. top notch guys!
yes lots of good…still needs a polish but thats why its BETA
Making it feel more scifi was a good move
yeah i did notice some inconsistencies and a couple things didnt make sense, like what is the new BFG stand for? Ballistic Firepower Guarantor? Am i missing something?
Never played Doom then??
Officially meant to be Ballistic Firepower Generator
Haha I instantly made the DOOM reference when I was reading it earlier. 🙂
Downloaded and reading through it now – will see how it plays and get in with the feedback for this game. Looks good from a quick skim through it at the moment.
Noticed plenty little tweaks after a quick read through. Looking forward to getting a game going tomorrow(today I suppose) to see how they all come together, particularly regarding close combat/failed assaults. You do get the impression of another step forward from the alpha though, great job back stagers (and all the team at Mantic).
hm ok …as I was kind of eager concerning warpath ( as I am not a backstager ) I have to say I am a little upset right now 🙁 I hoped for more than that . Probably not a good idea to say this out loud ( so my apologies in advance ) but : I think it lacks tactical elements ( as most, if not all, wargames do today ) its more or less: “move until you see an enemy unit” than “roll dices until it stops to move and breath” if it wont stop moving and breathing “move a little closer and club it to death ( aka roll more dices )” …
I really, really miss some elements that actually are based on tactics rather than plain movement and dice rolling. But as I said thats not only warpath ( especially Warhammer and WH40K lack tactical elements as well but they try to disguise this fact [which is even worse in my opinion] by an overwhelming mass of equipment, weapons [which all in the end are kind of the same] and different armies and/or expansions like apocalypse that introduced tactical orders like the one that allows you to replace your whole army ….[sarcasm] what a great tactic this is [/sarcasm] )
I really hoped warpath would do something to the better. It seems that the tactical element confines itself to unit and equipment choices before the game. But I have to admit and give it to the boys over at Mantic , its really not an easy thing to come up with something groundbreaking.
Maybe they should try to come up with something new concerning what units can do (wrote this to them as a bit of advice) because ATM your tactical tool-box only contains: movement (including to get into cover of some sort ), shooting and close combat , with little parts within these elements, but basically that is all wargaming has to offer right now: move, shoot, club (and as I said some manoeuvering before the game concerning your troop-choices)
so long
Seb
I don’t like either of Mantic’s game systems, but I think if you give them time, and develop their army ranges, the games might improve. Early days and all.
what other tactics than “move-shoot-club” are there??? When you get to the low end of a battle (company level with a few tanks/vehicles in support) that is all that happens.
Take real life operations today: move-fall under fire-return fire-wait for gunship/jet to wipe enemy of the face of the earth
peeew …I first thought of replying but it will take much time and many things to say, and my English is simply not good enough to convey this to you, but there is much more than that to modern warfare. But then again sorry I simply dont have the patience and the needed English skills to explain it right now.
I think this game system could really benefit from having activating squads rather than turns – with a roll after each full army has been activated to then try and take the initiative. Would make this a lot more fluid I think.
Biggest disappointment to me is that beta does not do alternating units but they may be an ask to far based on what Mantic want to do- tournie chess clock game. I think its possible but i guess i was out voted
Exactly! I play Umbra Turris – fantasy skirmish game that uses ‘activations’. It’s sweet and adds a lot of tactical thinking etc.
Like the modifiers to long range and things like “suppressed” also like the fact that the unit has to stay within a certain range of the leader. Really sad that you don’t alternate units, seems kind of old thinking to not do that. This game would be great if you could alternate units. The whole game would be similar and simpler to 40k but with much more tactical depth. Now it’s just the same as 40k isn’t it?
Like partisan says it’s just move, shoot, club. Why not introduce something that makes it worth going round the enemy (now you just lose a couple of rounds of shooting) and hitting them in the flank/rear (like no cover saves if shoot from behind, or automatic panic test or something ). And how about a modified overwatch rule? something that breaks up the move straight ahead, shoot, then close combat…been doing that for years it’s almost not worth picking up the miniatures, just let a calculator compare the two army lists and see who won. Saves a lot of time.
Alessio is on the right track keeping it simple, there’s a million complicated “have to remember a hundred different special rules and how they interact with each other games” out there, I think that both Warmachine and Infinity takes a lot of playing to get each bloody special rule right so Alessio is doing the right thing to trying to keep it as simple as possible (probably harder than introducing a game with page upon page with special rules and how they interact with each other). BUT there’s got to be something in the game mecanics that makes it interesting, appart from the introduction of planes, Warpath is like 40k for 8 year olds (40k is for 12 right?). Yes the chess clock is new and really interesting idea but 90% of us won’t even give it a try, and who would want to play a horde army? move a 100+ orcs when your opponent just have to move 1/3 of that and spend the rest of his time thinking about his turn?
I’m sorry for all my rambling, but Alessio has showed that he is a real genius when it comes to game designs in the past. Someone must be telling him “don’t make something simple with new game mechanics, just dummy down 40k even further” Why would we play warpath instead of 40k?!?! I’m sorry but anyone could have done this. Or maybe it’s just me who’s getting to old, maybe it’s time to stop wargaming and start collect garden gnomes instead cause these rules did nothing to me.
The game is going to play very well, it is obviousyl based on KOW and as a slick mechanic it is great. Warpath has just just enough tweaks and options to give some depth to each of the Beta factions and there some nice little touches. I still think the flyer rules and the reserve rules are a fantastic idea without overcomplicating the method. Ordnance seems very naughty still, but all in all great job done. I cannot decide which faction I want to run with. I imagine there will be a starter box set with a game in a box, 2 factions etc…. so looking forward to that too.
If there are released why haven’t I had them? I signed up as others, been a member for a year completed everything, if I try again it says I am already signed up and friends have there copies.
Where are mine???
get them from your friends ? >..>
I like how it says “Click here to get the beta *ruels*” on the banner. That tickles me for some reason. As for the actual rules, I’m still undecided.
I like it, simple to learn and more dificult to master plus scales well. Perfect for getting more people interested in Wargaming that before found both the prices and the rules of other companies a big hurdle to take. :). Can’t wait to see how the miniatures like especially the Forge Fathers, and maybe make a rule-set for them myself based on the Spacewolves with some Salamanders thrown in, if some 40k person will allow me to “fight” him :). Call them Demiurg and hope they won’t be too pissed about my noobishness. I love the GW 40k Fluff but never was able to afford the models only starting with Wargaming recently… so really interested in this. I did follow the Fluff (Comics and Books) of the 40k Universe pretty intensly for weeks though, and I hope Mantic also adds some good fluff in Warpath.
Man I want to see models soon, I really hope the Forge Fathers look as awesome as the art. Of course there has to be some trade offs, but hehe, if they can get 70% of the looks in they will look fantastic :).
Yeah I’m liking how it’s more simpler to learn than 40k But I fear that GW will kinda have it’s loyalists dismiss this. :/ I can’t wait to see the ForgeFathers aswell Space + Dwarves = Awesome Idea! 😀
Mantic, all you need to do for a good game is space clowns!
Cant seem to download the beta rules!! i can download the army stats… but it wont let me even open the rules!! is it still available??? or am i to late????
