Genuine question: What makes you think think GW have ever been overly concerned with the consistency of their background? Particularly for 40K.

That was so they could sell Primaris. Nothing more.

They weren’t concerned when the switch from Rogue Trader to Second Edition completely changed forces.

Or when the switch from second to third changed Eldar from an elite force to a horde.

Or when they rewrite the Necron background.

And there are plenty more examples. GW background has always been whatever they want it to be to drive sales.

@sundancer: I foresee riots on the streets of Nottingham; the likes of which haven’t been seen since the fictional days of Robin Hood. I see the big statue outside Warhammer World being covered in toilet paper and set alight. Possibly even a cloud of fumes from burning plastic blotting out the sun!

Well I didn’t know my friday evening (down under) needed gmail notifications from out-of-touch people bashing GW for something they don’t get, and then acting all superior in their ignorance over it, lol

I don’t envy GW in this, the fluff originally structured its self to coverup for a lack of resource, it now has to change to enable growth and improvements of the range.

I respect them for doing their best to try and keep things tied to the story, its an impossible task to please everyone at the best of times. So I genuinely believe their heart is in the right place on this (products need to improve after all) 🙂
