I’m afraid he’s always been in the same category as Bernard Manning and Jim Davidson for me, with his casual misogyny and unrepentent views on wife beating (“so long as you use an open hand”). I was going to be an extra in First Knight (when it was being filmed in parts of North Wales back in the 90s) when I learned of it. Obviously my mum and three sisters were happier when I said I wasn’t going to do it. Nobody in our family is mourning his passing.
