They really do make some fantastic stuff. I only wish my painting skills could do justice to them, I’d buy every release.
Talk about a bad hair day! lol
Like the originality and creativity in the McVey sculpts.
kind of static pose don’t you think? reminds me of 80s metal figures who all held their hands up like as if they’re being robbed!
I assumed that she is in the middle of spell casting while levitating in some of her flames.
The 80’s pose that you refer was due to the limitations of the casting process at the time afaik.
Maybe her back could have been more arched giving a curve in profile, but the pose fits the bill imho.
While the detail is, as always for McVey, stunning and I love the idea of a fire mage using charred wood as armour I’ve got to agree with Tenn on this one. Compared to some of the amazing poses of their range this is very boring to me. I know that some people like the whole “mage powering up” thing but I rather prefer to see them either casting or just about to cast. In this case for example one hand reaching out with small flames starting to surround her hand, not sure about the other arm though, either back… Read more »
This pose is indeed static, but on purpose. The composition reflects the geometric shapes of the cape, the tree, the armor… It’s quite artistic, and unfortunately not really fashionable in nowadays miniature scene, but it has its fans. Arguably, it’s not he best Jacques Alexandre Gillois sculpt, though.

Hot.
I’ve actually got a few Studio McVey pieces now and I have to say they are all really finely detailed and generally nice poses. This one however I have to say does look a bit too static for me. The detailing looks fine etc. and while I’m sure that this is because it was the artistic direction the sculptor wanted to go with the pose, its a direction or decision that doesn’t appeal to me personally. I know that’s a subjective thing, its far from being a bad miniature though.
