About the Project
To be completely honest I dont know anything about this game. I had an eye out for something Steampunk and fell in love with these minis as soon as I saw them. Felt that I could use a project where I wasnt pressured to rush to tabletop and could just enjoy painting. Though I'm sure I'll get the game eventualy for now this is realy for to paint.

So after all the wrestling spiting and swearing re fiddly bits breaking off and dodgy gold paint I’m kinda satisfied. The dodgy gold worked really well as a highlight to my gold concoction so I’m prepared to overlook my issues with it and continue to use it as a mixing base for stuff. One thing I do have to say re the Vellego metal colour is it’s a pretty damn nice finish. Any roughness in these photos is simply my work under the non-gaming microscope.
WTF. Am I trying too hard?
Applying some of citadels silly pot gold way back in august didnt feel good enough. Reminded me of a 70’s glitter transfer and almost too yellow. So decided to order a few vellego metal colours.
Unfortunately my order was boken into 2 shippments. Then Australia post had delays. I finally received the first half of my order on Friday, over a month later. Relief it contained the gold. But then I checked it out. ….Not very gold and I’m not very happy.
The pic below shows the vellego silver to the left, the delivered vellego gold in the middle and what I created with vellego gold, citadel gold, and a bit of tamyia clear orange. only one of these looks vaguely gold. My brain is full of expletives. I’d like to fill my blog with fun and great moments but this what happens sometimes I guess.
Ahh Pin it!
I do love the lithe movement and fine structure of this sculpt but I am finding it a little frustrating to handle. Everything is too delicate and comes with hooks to catch on anything that comes too close. The guys at demented games may have had the fore thought to make this resin a bit flexible but I’ve had to pin the ankle with very little material after a drop and her claw caught a passing magnifying glass taking off her left arm and the patch and paint has been a headache.
On the paint side I feel I’ve got the colour palet sorted, the yellow is the base for gold and bronze and I’ll add a flash of green similar to the kickstarter example.
They say she's a fast one
I did add a few more highlights on the sewer golem then gave it a coat of Matte Varnish and glossed the wet stuff but my photography isn’t quite good enough to capture the difference so I’ve moved onto the next mini in the series so I have something to take pics of.
Starting with the usual zenith airbrush as seen here but forgot to take a pic after the black wash and subsequent drybrushing and highlighting.
Then it was onto the skin with an underlayer of pinks and purples.
After playing about a bit with the high-low, hot- cold , highlight and shadow stuff I covered the skin with Vellejo skin wash and started looking at how best to get some lion skin like textures onto the legs and tails. I think I will need to darken the skin a few more shade to create a nice contrast between the two skin types
Stay on Target!
When I glance at this piece now I starting to get the feeling I’m almost done Then my eys start wondering over the detail and I realise I still have a few things left to do. Its not much, mostly small stuff but I’m finding every little bit counts on this mini. Still I ‘m hoping my next posting will be the final pics.
When my next post is? I dont know. So looking forward to life falling into a pace where I can paint some more , least I’m still gaming enough to stay sane.
Are we there yet?
I did buy these just for the joy of painting but I didnt think I would get lost like I have on just 1 mini. My available time may have been in short supply but I looks like it will be over a month on just this one. The golem is feeling close but I still have to do the rats and get started on his fishing sidekick, Cuttleberry Skinn.
1 session at a time
I’ve decided to take the same 3 shots after every few hours spent on this mini so I can look back and see the progress and directions it takes. My time on this really depends on how free my evenings are so I maybe just giving it a lick here and there in between stuff and updating every few days.
