I used Elmer’s white glue (a brand of PVA glue) for assembly.  I used an X-acto knive and files to clear out the holes of excess paint and sanded the tabs and widen the slots were it was too tight.

First floor. I built the four walls first then then added the supports for the upper deck. First floor. I built the four walls first then then added the supports for the upper deck.

Here I’m starting to add the railings to the deck. I had to clamp them in place to keep them from falling over. I used the adjustable wrench as a weight to make sure the upper deck fit snugly onto the supports. Here I’m starting to add the railings to the deck. I did a bit of a test fit and mockup to find out where the issues are. I’ll need to do a bit of drilling and filing to clear off the accumulated paint.

I lost track of how many coats but I think this is around 4 or 5. I lost track of how many coats but I think this is around 4 or 5.

If I were to do this again, I might’ve primed white on the front of the building and gray on the sides and back. Still, I rather like the slightly transparent look as I was going for a paint job you’d see on a boom town building, gaudy and hurriedly applied.

I masked off the front doors and used masking tape to hold the sign frame in place. Everything in the frame will be painted black. The horizontal piece of tape marks the edge of the frame. There’s a pair of small store rooms at the back of the saloon and I wanted to paint them differently so I test fit the walls in place and masked off the area to be painted.

Here’s what the storerooms look like when partially assembled. Here’s what the storerooms look like when partially assembled.
Here are the storeroom walls after the masking tape was removed. The walls are painted a mix of yellow, white and Burt umber all mixed together. I may try a different color and repaint them.
