The Walking Dead Boot Camp - Saturday
A Closer Look – What You Can Win With 4Ground’s Shopping Mall!
We run through what comes as part of the 4Ground Mall that you could win by commenting on the Live Blog and individual posts throughout!

Are the Guy’s from 4Ground are going to do stuff for a second floor for the Mall ? also what can be cool is if they make a special package on their web site to get all the stuff in one clic so a gigantic bundle to get it all Woaaa it can be expensive thow
Looks great,a perfect accompaniment to mantic walking dead game
I’ve got a couple of ideas for stores: A Frogg Brothers style comic book shop.. where else might you learn how to put an end to those pesky undead and their minions.
Fitness studio with exercise machines etc could be cool too..
That would be good, balconies and escalators. Maybe even some lift shafts. I’d like to see a soft play centre. Walkers lurking in a ball pool maybe !
The ultimate in tabletop miniatures Shopping Mall. What you need now is add add as massive Hardware store like Homedepot/Lowes/Bunnings, complete with timber yard, barbeque, ride-on lawnmower and power tools section.
the mall obviously needs a ‘not’ Games workshop. Don’t know how the logistics would work, but it needs to be hidden in a spot that no one who doesn’t already knows it exists, will be able to find it
How about a shoe store, jewelry store and of course a theater
It needs a children’s play area but what a fantastic game board
I think a central meeting place like a fountain would be cool.
Looks like this will take a while to assemble.
A Bass Pro Shop! One pole to kill’em all!
Electronic goods store would be cool. Tvs and dvd racks fridge freezers and washing machines and the like…
A game store, obviously…
Man that thing is huge! I was surprised by the size when I saw it on the video
indeed… its very hugeeeee 🙂
I would like to see a comic shop and a gaming store but a second floor with an escalator down the centre of the mall would be grand especially if you have a large department store that is on both the ground floor and the first floor, think Dawn of the Dead.
4Ground rules!
4-ground need to add a Gaming stor, with a gaming table with 4-ground terrain on them 🙂
Just came to comment it needs a mezzanine and escalators (grinding up walkers too slow to get off at the top perhaps?), but of course that’s been suggested, darn.
Seasonal options might be nice. Every mall I’ve been in for the last few weeks has a santa’s grotto. Zombie elves? Santa Claws? Insert pun?
I love me some terrain lighting, so an led pack would be sweet. Night time zombie terror in the mall.
Food stalls would be good, so just dotted around a donut cart, a coffee stand.
There’s also the whole range of malls that cross into entertainment venues (Mall of America anyone? seriously that things got Alton Towers in the middle!). Fairground rides, a climbing wall, those weird bungee bouncy things?
For stores, there has a to be non-brand-specific-construction-blocks store. A book shop, lots of aisles to hide in, a big department store like Macy’s or JC Penney? (“is it just me or did that mannequin move? And groan?”)
Obviously you guys need to do a board game shop. One that stocks 4ground products. And one that has the mall set up on a gaming table. And maybe that model mall could have a gaming shop with a teeny tiny mall… ad infinitum
Also a few malls around here have food retailers, a butchers would be specifically popular with the walking dead right.
So much inspiration in that piece you’ve made guys, very jealous of the Beasts and Boot Campers who get to play on it..
I wonder how much that 4Ground mall would cost?
I would love to see a second level to the mall with a walkway all around the central area.
I think some ideas could be an arcade might be a cool idea easy source of noise to distract the zombies. Maybe a pharmacy always a vital point for survivors. Even a health food shop granola and dried fruits are gonna last in the apocalypse.
For a bit of scatter why not those photo booths commemorative photo of your mall raid.
how about a computer store, or a gw sore with a pushy sore manager/walking dead.
Would love to see a multi-plex cinema with the Mall, one of my fav non-zombie movies the Blob has such an iconic scene, would love to be able to game it.
The 4grounds stuff looks amazing! It would be amazing to win that!
Agreed on a lot of the above suggestions; a second level with escalators, railings, etc. I think a big addition would be maintenance hallways, security room(s), general maintenance rooms (hvac, etc.), perhaps a parking garage.
As usual, great stuff from the 4Ground guys .
An interesting add on to the mall would be a halloween/costume shop. It could very interesting imo.
an arcade area would be cool. An off licence because killing zombies is thirsty work. But there really should be a twinkies store; just in case Tallahassee is about. “Where are you, you spongy, yellow, delicious bastards?”
Well everybody is having a party so a Liquor Store or a Bar would be needed
How about a good ole Mantic store… with a miniature version of The Walking Dead played in a 4ground shopping mall… with a Mantic store… with a miniature version… we’ll you get what I” saying. 🙂
I think 4ground need to add a doughnut shop or a some small kiosks in the middle of the mall the one that sell phone accessories of cheap kids toys. And the 4ground guys have out done the self with this kit great job.
the toilet block is a nice touch
It looks awesome.
I’d like to see 4ground produce a couple of drive throughs and car park accessories so you could do the whole block.
What about American style overhanging signal lights.
my choice of addition to the mall would be an adult goods store – i really wanna see 4ground make teeny handcuffs, book racks filled with adult magazines, maybe even a sex swing, but definitely a glass cabinet full of dildos!
lol, then we can have zombies in bondage gear and gimp suits too! 😉
wow i need this, 4ground this is one i need to buy on my xmas list
I think I agree with the overwhelming response of a Hobby Gaming Store addition would be brilliant. Whatever options 4Ground decide to go with I am still amazed they have made this Mall. I keep thinking about pictures of model railway building displays and multi million dollar development concepts in scale model, and how I used to imagine what it would be like to game on those displays. I never really did expect to see the day when the average person might actually be able to afford to have something like this on their home gaming table but here you go. Truly astounding.
Floor stacking. This mall would be awesome across two floors with escalators as others have suggested.
Zombies going down the up escalators forever, blocking them off 😉
great setup for a game
come on chaps im still drooling from the last look see
Hobby gaming center would be great fun and very meta 🙂 A movie theater would also be a cool alternative, playing a zombie movie on the screen for extra lulz
I now have to purchase a new keyboard, thanks to this one getting covered in drool….
How about a bowling alley? House rules for walkers and survivors slipping over on the lanes.
Pop up shops like Shoe repair / key cutters and mobile phone repairs would be cool. By the way I love the run through the mall scenario, great idea.
Could use a miniature wargaming store. 😀
Escalators so we can go to the next level!, or.. down to the underground car park!
Oh my God! I would love to see a ferris wheel in there or some kind of play ground. A skating ice rink would be cool too so we can see zomcapades. I also love the idea of a holiday area where all the kiddies can sit on zombie Santa’s or the Easter Bunnies lap. So much they can do!
Holy crap, that thing is amazing. A second level would be great. A central fountain. Book store, kiosks, a security room. A victorias secrets so @warzan can dress up for his three ways or lion dates.
You need little kiosks for sunglasses, cell phone/accessories, Segways for security and their office, some sort of chain sit down restaurant that opens to the outside, a loading dock, maybe even a holiday gift shop.
You need to have a carousel, no mall is complete without one!!!!
😉
Brother G
possible add ons for the Mall:-
underground parking block.
second, third etc floor sections with stairs and lifts.
children’s soft play section
alternative mall sections for car showrooms,
wargames shop with tables and book shelves.
cinema section (probably half the mall
Surely it needs a pub (preferably named the Winchester) and a fancy fountain
cool piece of terrain it’s amazing .. here in my little club can be a blast^^
for the competition I suggest a geek store .. obviusly =P tech and rpg\miniature fame and some boardgame olso =P
or if you look for sometingh classic a music shop .. survivor can take a pricy fender and smash head whit it =P LOOOOL
A toy store and some kind of children playground/daycare things could be nice.
A bowling alley.
A hardware store.
A phone store ?
@dignity curious on how long it takes to build that thing. LOL! Add me to the arcade and game store list for other store ideas.
The mall is awesome, congrats to you guys for a job well done!
Ideas for Justin:
The mall could use a second level. along with escalators.
A cinema.
An arcade, you gotta have an arcade!
An information booth.
A security booth or a security room if you do a mega shopping mall
Oh my God that mall is amazing shop ideas hmmmmm
Well you can have a pet shop, I Santer grotto, I hardware shop, Comic book store, a train model shop, A garden centre, Computer game shop and like have a water Fountain in the middle of the mall
Incredible piece of gaming terrain. But whats a mall without those lil bodega like carts/stands in the middle? Plus… wait for it… walkways so you can add a second level!
Blaster was here… & is always *up* for some *second level* gaming!
Damn! Someone beet me to the Games Workshop idea!
There are a lot of essential shops missing though. The possibilities are endless.
I didnt see a Costa or Starbucks….you definitely need one of those (for a break in between looting the other stores).
And an Argos. And a TK Maxx. And HMV….oh wait….no TV or XBox any more. Ok an Easons (essential as no TV or XBox anymore).
Boots – Carls hair is bloody neglected and he will need some serious hair care products (assuming he lives). A DW Gym, with pool and steam room of course. A Halfords (note to Ronnie – we need a rule for bikes). Pets at Home, so you would have to fend off a horde of zombified gerbils. And don’t forget the plethora of empty shops which have gone out of business with the recession.
A second then third story added on to build the mall up higher would be intense. A movie theater would be the first must have in the mall. Nothing ruins date night at the movies like Zombies stumbling in as you’re about to ‘make your move’.
After that ikea needs a presence, where better to hide than in that damn maze of a store. The mall needs some geek value, a gaming store, comic store, computer EB games type store. Then a main stage area, perhaps a piano or microphone something on it to make lots of noise with.
The mall could use one of those indoor playgrounds for the young zombies to have a climb on.
It definitely needs a game store as well.
That mall is useful for all sorts of modern games, including super heroes, cops and robbers, horror just to name a few.
A second floor expansion with escalators, crosswalks, and ledges would be awesome! Definitely a theatre and some large store that goes onto the end sections like sporting goods store. Also larger block sections for stores instead of the small rectangular stores, like a huge clothing store section that can also act as a hub sections to change the shape of the mall from an I to L like shape and so on. Maybe some kiosk’s and fountains as well as scatter terrain. The mall looks awesome and I hope they continue the range with some more items.
Needs escalators up to another level so you can chuck zombies off
First a question (from my daughter). In the toilet block are there sufficient female stalls to avoid the typical queues that otherwise occur?
Ideas:
1. A childrens’ creche / soft play area.
2. A corner piece (maybe dept store on larger outer section) that allows an L-shape layout. Corridor could go on diagonal or even be curved?
3. A Bowling Alley!
A service area at the back with loading bays, dumpsters, even a utilities block to house the heating/aircon machinery.
a gamestore with a walking dead playing table 🙂 or a walking dead comercial store
a rent a car shop
4ground can add a garden store, a newspaper/lotto both, a playroom or even a scaping room, a wax museum, a bowling, lost of los ideas, nailshop, videogamestore, jeerlry…
4ground guys deserve a big thumbs up for this one, and a mental health check 😉
Cinema would be great. Love the idea of a second floor though!
I think a car show room would be a good addition, very open but with lots of cars to get the cover bonus from.
How about adding a Bowling Hall?
that thing is amazing
It certainly big, no need for a mat.
How about a Bar, with plenty of nooks and bays.
Back when I was a teenager the only place I’d go in the mall was apart from the food court and cinemas was the video arcade, so I think I’d love to see an arcade add on and I’ll add to the list of cinema complexes.
A multi storey car park would be nice, or a loading bay for HGV’s, all those shops need a warehouse after all.
I’d like to see all those incidental stalls that pop up in the middle of the mall. Sunglasses, sky tv, eyebrow threading, odd things like that. And those massage chairs. With relaxing zombies of course. 😉
An old school arecade and optional Christmas decorations. A massive overly decorated tree would be awesome
Winning that would be too freakin awesome.
A theater would be great. Could install a screen of some type. I saw a game where a guy built a mall and used an I pad during the game to play a movie.
Since the Christmas holiday season is coming, as a mall expansion, I think it would be awesome to have a section for Santa’s Workshop in the courtyard, with loads of mini 4-ground buildings and a tiny train running around a massive Christmas tree, a big chair for the photos with Santa, and all the usual trimmings, rope lines, etc.
ok how about an indoor amusement park like the one in the Mall of America (in Bloomingdale, Minnesota).
http://www.popularmechanics.com/technology/design/g404/the-worlds-18-strangest-malls/?slide=1
That’s a challenge
every shopping maul need escalaters and a lift to a second floor
I’d love to see a book store and if it doesn’t have a pharmacy already – first off, wtf?? – then it needs one.
I think that 4ground should produce an arcade for the mall. Just like terminator.
Fantastic piece. I’ve already seen children’s zone and toy store. A couple of things our local malls have, a gym, a musical instrument store, and a small walkway thing is the little kiosk booths for like sunglasses and jewlery.
Its got to have an arcade. Just imagine all those wee HDF arcade machines and the wacky names you could give the games. Use some frosted acetate for the screens and put flickering LEDs behind them for extra awesomeness.
How about holiday areas? Like to meet Santa Claus or the Easter Bunny.
Also would like a book store.
Otherwise, a second floor is need as well as anchor stores.
A record shop would be an awesome at on, that or old school arcade!
The mall needs a loading dock and receiving area along with a big trash compactor and an area for those large garbage bins.
I wish I were there!
When does that thing go on sale? I’m sure auctioning one off for charity would also bring in a hefty sum.
A candy store!
Looks lovely!
What about a store selling MDF shopping malls. & then in that model MDF shopping Mall they could have a store selling MDF shopping malls. & then in that MDF shopping mall they could have a store selling… I’ll get my coat.
That mall is freaking HUGE! Awesome to play out these scenarios
The Mall looks great
Where’s the stairs/escalators to the 2nd level, with the jewelery/tiffany’s shop, security office, the supermarket with the big open freezers to keep the zombies “fresh”.
