The continuity of the Evil Dead movies starts with Evil Dead 2 (which is by far the best of three). Evil Dead is worth a watch but not necessary to understand what is going on in the subsequent movies.

I’m a big epic fan too. Still got all my armies, I started on the Epic Space Marine (2nd box set I think). This was the one with separate expansions for Squats, Chaos etc. Managed to get all the expansions and have armies for each.
