We get the lowdown about the new La Haye Sainte boxed set from Warlord Games for their awesome Napoleonic game Black Powder. It's time for a sit down interview with managing director John Stallard and head of design Paul Sawyer!
If you're a Black Powder fan then this would make a great centerpiece for your gaming table and if you want to get started in the world maybe this could be your first port of call! Fans of the TV show Sharpe might remember this from an episode or two!

Sweet baby Jesus do I want this.
You’re certainly not the only one. Oh, my poor, poor wallet.
They really do know how to push my buttons, I need more hobby time.
Nice looking model, though unless its for Sharpe practice I cant see myself ever doing Napoleonics in 28mm
Hah I know what you mean. Everything I know about Napoleonics, I learned from watching Sharpe!
..and from listening to Warren on the weekender, of course 😀
I too would use them for Sharpe Practice and probably Lasalle and Blucher (when it’s released)
I am ‘almost’ ashamed at how much time I’m spending looking into Waterloo at the moment. Feel dirty lol – but loving it 😉
No need to be ashamed. It’s history, not dogging or Morris dancing lol
lol way to put it in perspective!
I tried Morris dancing once … fell off the bonnet … never mind, it was only a Minor accident …
I see what you did there 😉
I aim to amuse … 😉
only feel dirty if you pick the French wish they bring back the old English fiver with wellington on it
Funnily enough I was watching Waterloo last night. I wish I had the time to start playing all these great looking games 🙁
I can’t say I’ve had any real interest in gaming Waterloo in this scale before, but on seeing that I’m very tempted. If nothing else it’d make a great dioramma!
What a great new set. May be for the 200th they can do a Hugomont one.
Went over to warlord games website to see how much the boxset cost. When they give you an option to pay by installment, i start slowly backing away 😉
So, so, soooo want this! Have been looking for an excuse to get into Napoleonics… 😀
Always wanted to try Napoleonics, I think that Le Haye Sainte set is just enough to tip me over and get some.
I wouldn’t mind winning any of that. 😀
Looks really good. This era has always appealed to me.
You really start to get my attention on napoleonics more and more. Not sure about 28mm for this, but mybe i need to give it a try.
i have gotta get this fantastic stuff
Got to be honest, they don’t come cheap but these big boxsets that Warlord put out (this one, Rourkes drift and the Pegasus Bridge one) are stunning products, Mantic are always the name that gets mentioned when talking of the rising star of the Nottingham manufacturers, but as good as they are (and I love deadzone), I think Warlord are the ones with the best developed systems and products out there.
Black Powder(Napoleonics in particular) has always been on the edges of my gaming curiosity. Tempting yet always out of reach as I know no one else, and buying 2 starting armies is cost prohibitive.
The chance of winning a bundle like this has me drooling.
For those into PC gaming with a tinge of Napoleo-curiosity, I’d suggest trying “Mount & Blade: Warband” with the Napoleonics DLC.
Its a 3rd/1st person shooter & hack’n’slash with a huge array of troop types (from linesmen to engineers, cavalry to cannons), weapons (rifles, muskets, pistols, bayonets, swords, pikes etc). Not to mention the option to play as a musician, playing period accurate tunes on your drums/flute/bagpipes to buff and inspire your nearby allies.
There’s also many game modes like siege (yup, attacking/defending castles) and commander battle (where each player has a squad of men/horse at his command, yes you get to say “left rank fire, mid rank fire, right rank fire”).
It’s as hilarious as it is adrenaline pumping at times. Whats better is you don’t get head-shoted all the time by pro’s as there really is little reliable accuracy to the muskets.
Playing this really has fueled my interest in running some historical games at my club… all I need now is some models…
is there a napoleonics DLC for mount & blade warband? I have played that game to death. How have I not seen that DLC? Is it perhaps an unofficial mod?
I believe it started off unofficial, then was bought up. It’s available on steam:
http://store.steampowered.com/app/48705/
Watched Sharpe’s Waterloo last night because I remember this was part of it haha – ace battlescene even if it is typically ‘ITV’ and a bit namby pamby…
BoW Ben
Ive been interested in black powder for some and this would be a great time to start for me and my son and also would be a great addition toother warlord game bolt action
Just what I needed, another game….
For those who fans of Napoleonics and rpgs, I’ll again to take the opportunity to point you at Duty & Honour.
http://www.omnihedron.co.uk/dutyandhonour/?page_id=407
Love the old Napoleonics … from the Peninsular Wars through to the Waterloo (Portaloo?) campaign – I’m sure that Tolkien was inspired by the fateful charge of the Royal Scots Greys, when he wrote the last charge of the Knights of Gondor … Was La Haye Sainte the complex that changed hands several times during the battle, or was that Hougoumont? Memory fails me, but I’m sure one of them did …
Like minds the Union Brigade also was one of those well timed charges that could have won the day if the French had not counter attacked so effectively
Spent a lot of time at Hougamont reenacting over the years, and been all over the battlefield, what an amazing set!
Man I would love to use those British figures and recreate the battle of new orleans from the war of 1812, which was fought during roughly the same time.
Rather than the Waterloo British Infantry, you might want to look at the Penninsular War (1808-1814) British Infantry (which Warlord also produce), which should have more historically accurate uniforms for the battle … having said that, the only major difference is probably only the hat (but hey, I’m no historian) …
I never looked into the Napoleonic theme, perhaps that might be a good start!
Will there be a full product review soon? Is this a starterbox or is it more a advanced version of black powder? Do I need the rulebook, or are there quick start rules in the box?
Best wishes from Germany
Patrick
Warren, you’ve got me into this lately too with all your talk on the weekender, so this would be great to win! 🙂
Its Pretty fantastic if you ask me
As someone who loves the era from the Sharpe book series, all I can say is “Up the 95th”!
Looks like a nice set up. I need to have a more in depth look at black powder 🙂
When I first started wargaming back in ’72,Napoleonics was the period that I started with. My two favourite units were the 95th Riflemen and the Portugese Cacedores.
One of my favourite eras of history , this is one set i would love to own i can just imagine the fun on the table top ( mind you the way my luck is going i cant even win an argument in an empty house sigh……).
Gear looking stuff!
Or great, way to go autocorrect.
If I was to pick any time in history to visit I would pick the future, but then it would be the napoleonic era! The ranks soon ranks of bright reds/blues/greens etc soldiers and Calvary would beat any CGI version hands down. Have a small 15mm British army snd would love a larger scale set. Thanks!
This could be the club project that I was looking for!
Very tempting.
I’ve found myself tempted with some napoleonic stuff – primarily driven by reading the Sharpe series. This looks like a really nice set.
Nice miniatures!
A Napoleonic week, here in BoW would be awesome, with different miniature sizes and rules! 🙂
Its so pretty!!! I do love the rifle models in it. I remember first playing with Napoleonic stuff where our teacher actually had the models for Sharpe’s company x)
Looks interesting. I am not yet sure if this is the best scale but I am willing to give it a try after I win this prize. 😉
This makes me so very happy. La Haye Sainte was the very first battle I ever fought way back in the eighties when a cousin introduced me to wargaming. This set looks spectacular indeed, bravo Warlord, bravo!
WOW! What a box set. I’m going to have to get myself one to add to my current Black Powder Waterloo project with lots of French Cavalry! 🙂
I so need this!
My God! It is fabulous. Great to see the center peiece of the battle at waterloo in al its wargaming glory. I will get this even if i have to sell a kidney!
Have started AWI/ACW but this set looks also good! Maybe I get this set at Crisis this year 🙂
WIN! As in me, to win! Please… With cherries on top 🙂
these could get me back in 28s again
OO LA LA!
So much nostalgia about this particular terrain, many hours spent playing over the airfix kit in the ’70s, would dearly love to return to those fond childhood memories once more.
Love the Warlords stuff…….Napoleonics was the first wargaming period I got into back when I was at school!…….and yes, that was many, many, many years ago,( we still did Technical Drawing, woodwork….and…if you were really well off….your Mum and Dad could afford to buy you a calculator!)……I play mainly Sci-fi skirmish games now…..but this could get me back to my roots!
Warren, getting into Napoleonica simply means that you are getting old. Fantasy/sci-fi is not proper stuff for respectable gentleman, that is why Napolenica was invented 😉
What a great giveaway. Would love this set.
Another cool set from Warlord.
I normally game Napoleonic games in much smaller scale .(6mm to get the grand scale of the sweeping battles.)
But this larger scale will be great for getting my teenage sons into this war game period.
If Black Powder is a good as Bolt Action its a total winner IMO.
This is going to pull me into Napoleonic that I planned on when I retired!
Wasn’t interested at all in this period, untill I gor to watching sharpe.
Which I got to watch because the missus loves her some Sean Bean.
I’m actually planning to paint some GW’s Mordians in napolionic era english colours.
Also: a 144 models in a starter army!!!???
Now this would start me on historical gaming!
This is a rather splendid set. Oh 28mm Napoleonics you are tempting
You guys always give away the best gear. How can you do such awesomeness!!
Great looking set – Warlord know how to pull out the rabbits of the hat. And they have managed to make friends and partners with the right skills, be it Lasercutting or plastic model making on a grand scale
Whoever wins this. Do you want a new best mate ?
“He’s only friends with you because you won the BoW La Haye Sainte competition”
“My therapist says that’s all I can ever hope for”
With apologies to Milhouse
This would look so good on my gaming table
So many games, so many genres. So little time, so little money. If only I’d have gotten this involved 30 years ago!
Paul Sawyer! Legend. I’d always wondered what him and Jake Thornton (the two best White Dwarf editors in my opinion) had moved on to, and with this and your Deadzone coverage earlier this year, now I know.
OMG this is AMAZING!!!! I want so much!
Just a shoutout to say I absolutely love it when you do these conversations with the makers/creators of products, it’s really interesting to hear what they say.
I hate you guys so much I luv you. Sigh…another segment of our hobby you have sucked me into. Sign me up!
Cracking idea from Warlord again
Would love the French Army starter I think
Alleluia! Finally a fantastic way of getting my re-enactor friend to play table-top miniatures games and stop this nonsence that she ain’t nerdy like the rest of us! Thanks Warren 😀
Looks like an excellent set. Would love to add this to my collection
This time it’s war!
I’m really enjoying the joy in Warren’s voice on this stuff. It would be sweet to expand my small bit of the Grand Armee.
a must have set!
This where it all started for me when I was young and my Dad and Uncle played huge battles and I sit and watch and painted first mini. Just looked at Warlord set. Love it.
A box set with terrain. Loving it!!
OK, that looks pretty sweet!!!
Yes, amazing set… 🙂 And 95th Rifles?
I have always loved the Napoleonic time frame, and this was the final nail in the coffin. Time to learn about Black Powder.
Really impressed with this set and the limited edition is really great. Sadly the price is far too rich for my wallet. Even the standard set is too steep for me to get away with. 🙁 I dare say it is good value for what you get but in one shot or even in instalments I have to step back.
Wow, that was some coinky-dink! LOVE the set, that is really enticing.
I would love to get into Napoleonics to go with all my other areas, so count me in.
And should anyone feel like parting with even more cash there is a collectors edition too “cast to order”
Oh crap Warren. I’m already selling one kidney on eBay for the Pegasus Bridge set. If I win this I’ve got to sell the other one for Le Haye Sainte!!!!!
I love 28 mm, I will try this game because it looks great!
http://bernohn.blogspot.com.ar/
B.
another top notch product for warlord, looks like ill have to brush the dust off my copy of black powder
Oh, I wish I had more money and time to start 28mm Napoleonics….
Yep, definitely want one of these.
This would be so awesome to have! Been slowly building my Waterloo army and this would be a fantastic addition!
The battle of waterloo in 54 mm ,1/32 scale airfix plastic figures is where I started in war gaming many many moons ago, any chance you can make the farm 1 scale larger and I’ll get the box of soldiers down from the loft 🙂
With the Rorke’s Drift and Pegasus Bridge sets that Warlord have already released, this is a great addition.
Holy mother. Want!
Warlord games strikes again 🙂 I already play BA and HC now BP is starting to look interesting. To many games and not enough time.
I would quite like to win this set, been wanting to start Napoleonics for years…
This looks like a fantastic set.
Great video, hope we get to see alot more of these impromptu skype-type interviews!
do I really need an addition to mount plastic? hell, yes!! 🙂
I have played Waterloo 3 times on the table top and even managed to win with the English once. never played as the French
Dane
@warzan I have a relavtive who fought in the battle for Waterloo on the french side, as Aide de Camp of the 101st. Joules Terrance O’Reilly.
You can read the entire time period from an Irish perspective at:
http://www.archive.org/stream/memoirsofmilesby01byrniala/memoirsofmilesby01byrniala_djvu.txt
An extract:
THE camp of Vinegar Hill on the morning of the 2pth
May, 1798, after the victory, presented one of the most
glorious and splendid scenes that ever occurred for the
independence of Ireland. The finest young fellows that
any country in the world could produce were pouring
in from all directions, but particularly from the barony
of Bargy and the country leading to Ross. No doubt
great confusion and excitement prevailed, but it was the
excitement of a mass of people beseeching their leaders
to lead them on to victory, which they could not fail to
obtain, so bent were they on meeting the enemy and
on having an opportunity of being revenged on the
cruel monsters who were committing every crime, violat-
ing the women, burning the houses, shooting the owners
in cold blood at their doors, in the presence of their
wives and daughters, etc.
See, I do think that Beasts needs a lot more historicals, and a lot less 40K – I know that 40K is the thing that most people think of when they say wargaming, but its not very good as a game! Historicals, Dropzone commander and Mantic all produce far better games, and in many case better models.
This is from the guy who’s just finishing painting 450 6mm Napoleonic British redcoats however….
And with the name @greyhunter seems very spacewolvish
Always been extremely interested in Historicals. Just cant get any of these friends of mine to jump on board!!
After months of lurking on BoW, this has finally motivated me to join. Mad for Napoleonic stuff!
Yes please!
That is freaking awsome, I want one of those
Warlord has some awesome stuff. I started watching Dad’s Army after BoW posted that review of the set. Very cool!
Have been thinking about going back to where I first started in historical gaming…the Napoleonics! I would love to be able to recreate Waterloo this time next year for the 200th anniversary. The Black Powder rules seem a great place to start.
I’ve Just been looking at starting Napoleonic with Black powder rules, looks like this was meant to be. Although it will probably take me a lifetime to paint everything in this set. 🙂
Although I too was fascinated by Waterloo at one time, I never really gamed the battle, with one exception. Avalon Hill published WATERLOO in 1977. It is an easy game to play using wooden tiles to represent individual units. The units are grouped on a strategic map. The roads limited the number of units that can move from one location to another. One of the keys to victory is to move your units into adjacent locations so they can support each other in battle. Once battle is joined the tactics of the time are represented. Cavalry charges, forming square, marching up to the guns and melee. Disengaging from a battle (or preventing your enemy from disengaging) is also important.
I enjoyed this game so much it was one of the few Avalon Hill war games I kept when I sold off my AH game collection a decade ago. This game can still be found on ebay.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Napoleon-The-Waterloo-Campaign-Game-vintage-Avalon-Hill-/111383304414?pt=Games_US&hash=item19eef658de
Loving the look of that building. Think it could easily be used in other 28mm games 🙂
Great looking set, certainly the best barricade ever.
Which ones Mr Sharp
Oh no I’m suffering from shiny syndrome.. Warlord you gotta stop bringing out such awesome products, my gaming budget won’t stretch to this but I so want it.
Waow the “La Haye Sainte” set is one heck of a set.
I’m really impressed by the Warlord Games productions.
Excellent job fellas – please do Quatre Bras soon – I love all those Dutch/Belgian Cavalry uniforms and would love to have a reason to paint some up…
Warlord showing how it should be done yet again. Very nice stuff!
That collectors set is so tempting. Only downside is the Warlord plastics. Not a fan of the marching pose.
there are obviously a lot of French, British, Austrians, etc…. In this period. Maybe it would be nice to see some Italian or German states troop made by a great firm 😉
Always loved the Napoleonic wars. Soo many good books not just Sharpe. For a real Flavor try Redcoat (Richard Holmes) or Rifles (Mark Urban) both excellent plus there’s a semi biographical 4 book Napoleon series the name of which escapes me. Suffice to say this prize would be awesome.
Seems like the wrong scale for the volume of troops involved in black powder engagements.
Warlord really knows how to make box sets.
Ah Black Powder. Ever my favorite historical game! Here’s a tip of the cap to (im)probability!
Oh, blimey! Me wants!
If this bundle shows up it will lead to my divorce. Please pick me 🙂
This would make me a happy boy
Love the film Waterloo and got the whole series of Sharp.Would be nice to recreate the battles with the Napoleon bundle 🙂
Nice!
Well wouldn’t this be just the trick to get started in Black Powder…
Stories about war are so interesting, the details of the accounts are near mythological!
What an amazing expansion, can’t wait to see it, and a fantastic prize too. The first models I was ever given were some tiny napoleonics that were too small for me to paint to my satisfaction and they never really got used. Of course, then you get older, watch Sharpe, study history and think boy I wish I could start from the beginning again and actually play some proper napoleonic battles. May have to jump into this at some point soon!
Awesome so some cool stuff and then they do this! Amazing
Looks like a great starter set the and the black powder rules are my favourite Napoleonic rules they really work well with big tables and big army’s.
Nice nice set…have to start such army someday
That’s a lot of miniatures to paint, when you’re in you’re in. I do like the farm house, will they offer it separately?
Love this set and would love to get my hands on it.
That is a very nice looking set – have to stay strong and not start another new genre
It has been many years since I played Napoleonic’s – what away to get back into it!
Played Waterloo with Slaughterloo figures, ran the Prussians (Krautia). Shocked the French by arriving far too early and rolled up their flank.
Red coats FTW 🙂
The sets look awesome, but so much painting to do!
Good place as any to ask: have done anything to cater to tourists around Waterloo? Being American I’ve grown accustomed to battlefields being Hallowed Ground with visitor centers and monuments. I’ve never made it over to Belgium (and if I did I would have issues making it past the breweries), but I asked my father who visited there decades ago and apparently there wasn’t and the farmers who lived on the battle grounds were kind of standoffish to visitors (to put it mildly).
Bundles of British and French…. Could be my Waterloo !
I would want it for Bolt Action, but I know I’d get hooked playing Black Powder. It looks awesome
Nice intro set and more importantly would fit in with plans for next years gaming.
Reminds me of an amusing incident from a few years back (2007/8) … was in the vicinity of a certain London railway station, when I was approached by a couple or three Eastern Europeans, asking where the battle took place … Errr, you mean the Battle of Waterloo? … Yes … Belgium! … Umm, where’s that? … It’s a different country, mate … Oh. Thanks. Is there anything else here? … You could try the Imperial War Museum – it’s down that way …
One way or another this will be mine. Managed to get ‘the Waterloo companion’ in a charity shop for £1! Best buy ever!
This Napoleonic vibe is going to be Bolt Action all over again, BOW mentions it – I think its interesting but I already have enough to paint. BOW plays it – I decide I to take a look at the rulebook…10 months later I’m painting and basing my third army.
Barring the lunacy of the cavalry charge, Ney didn’t do too badly at the farmhouse, they scoured the defenders and was able to bring in a few guns in to blast the British squares from closer range – if only the infantry had been in a position to sufficiently follow up who knows (severe drubbing from Nosey’s Peninsula vets and the Heavy Brigade not long before)… Looks like a cracking set too! Plenty of characterful minis and the buildings themselves look fab!
really love the idea of this though the sheer number of minis to paint seems quite daunting!
Focusing back on Warrens Waterloo primer last weekend, do people see scope in playing a more narrative style of game with small units moving round and interacting with the board / terrain in a way that would influence the shape of the battle unfolding around them?
This is brilliant. Warren’s new found enthusiasm for this subject is totally infectious.
Count me in! Sounds like a great set!
Oh no, what a cracking set, Warlord you really know how to push buttons. I am trying to save up and go to the 200th anniversary next year. This will not do!
This looks great, keep toying with the idea of napoleonics, maybe now is the time!
@warzan , you have to get the warlord guys over and do a battle report/ intro game with this set.
My wife is gunna kill me. Ah well at least I’ll have plenty of time to paint all this whilst I spend the foreseeable future sleeping in the man cave!
If this set is for the 199th anniversary i wonder what’s coming for the 200th.
Hougoumont, perhaps?
Got to get this set was not expecting this realease warlord definitely kept this one quiet.
I was lucky enough to visit the battlefield and la haye saint hasn’t change in 200 years if I knew how I would up load pics I would show you. its incredible how preserved it is
Thanks for more historical games guys!
Looks great for a terrain centre piece and crucially more modular/storage friendly. I was totally up for getting a Pegasus bridge but then saw exactly how huge it is and realised I’d have nowhere to put it. Tragic.
How big a table do you need for 28mm Napoleonic? Whenever you see Warlords stuff it’s usually on mega tables at Johns or the Perry’s, could you get both those starter armies squaring off on a standard 6×4 or do you really need the room to manoeuvre?
I need to win these figures to go in the Battle Foam bag I intend to win from the Weekender…
I cannot believe it! I actually did win the Battle foam bag! I don’t think I am on a roll though, I never get 2 sixes!
Good luck to all in winning this fantastic prize. To game these figures with Black Powder which I have heard is a wargamer’s rule set, not tournament or lawyer based, but good gaming fun with friends.
Great video, starter sets look amazing just what I need to get started!
this looks great. I wonder what they have in store for the 200th?
Another fantastic price… don’t mind winning this raffle.
I’ve never played any Napoleonic themed games, this looks really interesting!
I love Warlord games! Life as we know it would be so different if this battle ended up differently. I’d love this setup
I love everything Warlord Games has made. Some very fun games!
I guess this is my possible ticket to “crazy hundreds miniatures Naps”!
L’amaze!
Just a time period that I wanted to tackled but was always afraid of the massive volume of miniatures. GIVE IT TO ME!!!
Great Video
Ive had my eye on black powder for a while! Warlord is my current favorite gaming company!
“Fans of the TV show Sharpe might remember this from an episode or two!”
Philistines! The novel series urinates over the TV show. Although Sean Bean is The Man….
We are living in a golden age for Wargamers, the quality of the plastics and buildings is getting better and better. This set whilst a superb terrain piece is crying out for a Diorama. How many of us will look at this kit, scan their wargames area and announce “It will fit there”.
What a sweet prize to win for my first ever BoW post!
I love old timey guns but right now I’m stuck with 40k. I tried making a winged hussar cold one archon knight to lead my dark eldar but it didn’t turn out.
The farm house looks fabulous!
Wow this looks beautiful
This looks stunning. Really nice looking kit.
Oh, and Warren… “Welcome to the Dark Side…. of Historical Wargaming”.
Does look very interesting and the farmhouse would be great to use for Bolt Action too
I’ve got to get some minis to paint up. Looks like a great set 🙂
Bugle ready, musket loaded, bayonet fixed and some silly buggers on horses, flash gits. Bring it on !!!! do der do der doooooo (that’s my bugle in case u were all wondering) Ah the smell of gunpowder in the morning
I have sharpe’s practice from 2 fat lardies, so this might be a nice addition….
This would look awesome in my man cave
Looks good, not sure if it’s for me…too low tech ^^
Have at u, u cad
This set looks awesome! I would love to paint this up and make a massive display… if I had the room
I don’t play Napoleonics. However, that farmhouse complex looks brilliant, I hope Warlord games consider selling it the separately at some time in the future. I could use it in several games such as Bolt Action. If I won this prize I would keep the farmhouse and donate the rest to my club.
I’d like to win this.
reminds me of the old Airfix playset…oh bless em.
The actual building had been designed by Sarrisa Precision so it might be available for sale there soon by itself
torros,
Many thanks, I will look up Sarrisa Precision.
Looks awesome! I have yet to try any of their products yet, but I have a feeling that I will be in the near future.
My favourite era of all the historical games Warlord produce (although I’ve never been able to afford to get started). I’ll be more than happy to win that starter set 😀
Awesome to see Warren so excited about Waterloo! I hope we’ll get to see more Napoleonics on BoW.
after playing hail caesar i really love the freedom and simplicity warlord give in there historical games looks awsome. just wish they would do a sharpe box set like they did dads army for bolt action
A fantastic prize, should I win I might just get them all painted for the bicentennial anniversary next year!
Looks awesome would love to have it.
waterloo for the win
Looks SO good in 28mm
Aaagh 28mm Napoleonics will take me forever to paint ……. but worth it for this prize!
After your history lesson last week this would be a perfect way to take it to the next level.
With the 200th anniversary approaching that a load for somebodies painting table to get cleared. 😉
looks fab, i want them all
More French to paint, when will I have time, but love the building
serious lack of funds, but this looks so good
The Napoleonic war is a classic historical period for war gaming that I would love to explore. This giveaway would be an excellent way to start.
My only problem with doing Waterloo, whilst an important battle etc, the British uniforms are different to those worn by the British in the rest of the Napoleonic Wars
which to follow on is why I think its a better period to do in 6 or 10mm. Firstly you can get away with the minute differences in the uniforms like painting flank and centre companies etc
and Secondly it looks better on the tabletop, nothing looks sillier in my opinion on the tabletop as 10 28mm miniatures trying to look like a regiment
Oh wow… 28mm would definitely be my favourite scale for Napoleonics for me as well. It’s all about the looks!
I agree
this is now on the list of must haves
Amazing looking set.
Man I wish I still lived near my dad, we always played napoleonic board games and slowly graduated into using minis from them to make our own battles and stuff. He would love this thing.
I never thought I would listen to a discussion about Waterloo on BoW!! Fantastic. More about Napoleonics.
Great looking set, always loved the napoleonic era, used to make & paint prince august models back in the day! Love it!
Would love to get any one of those prizes
History wow wow wow. Always were the reading.
Ive always wanted to get into napoleonics this would do nicely
Warren
Your new found love of history makes this history teacher all warm and fuzzy on the inside. I even went to amazon and bought the Waterloo Companion because it peaked my interest to know more about the battle. Keep up the great work!
I hope they do “Hougoumont” as well that would be seriously cool, also Warlord Miniatures need to cover the Boxer Rebellion so I can recreate 55 days at Peking
will pick it up at war torn war games show at Scarborough uk next week will have it painted up with 25.000 more figs for next years waterloo game to raise money for charity
The Black Powder game is very interesting as there are many local battles that fit the time-frame of this game. This would be an awesome way to get started with building a Second War for Independence battlefield setup!
This really is fascinating stuff… did they mention what scale this is?
28mm mbdeyes I use 1 fig to 20 scale that’s not far out for a battalion in campaing
Thanks for embedding the Waterloo movie. I just finishing watching it and loved it.
That set looks great but that prize is phenominal.
I have been toying with the idea of getting into Napoleonics along with celts and Romans for a long while.
Fingers crossed.
For more redcoats inspiration you could watch Last of the Mohicans also. Brilliant ambush scene.
I want it! I want it so bad!!!
Oh my! I want this so badly, but I haven’t even finished the Rorkes Drift yet.
This looks amazing and I’ve always wanted to get into Black powder, this is one of my favorite historical periods!
what a great looking box set
if any one really wants to get into Napoleonic’s or waterloo
l advise a few books the waterloo companion ,years of the sword, and the battle you wont go far wrong with any of those books to get you started
if you use your imagination a little bit you can use it for the battle of quatra bras which was just as important 2 days previous
Beautiful looking set.
This would be great! Any chance you could pick me as a winner?
This looks really cool. I have never really given this kind of game a lot of thought, but after this video, and warren waxing poetic on the weekender i would really love to gie this a try, just dont let the wife know
This set is very cool. I’m weakening…now if they do a Hougomont, it’s all over.
hovels do hougomonet and papolotte farm
It is very good to see that you at BoW and especially you Warren are getting into Nappies. The period is amazing and the battle are truly epic but it is good for skirmish level games too as well as mass battles. Some of the ranges out there are amazing and if you every fancied playing Sharpe or Hornblower then its the period for you. Enjoy it mate.
Can´t wait to see what warlord games do next. love them so much I am going to order Hail Caeser and have it shipped here to Brasil. This set looks amazing, nice to see a hobby company that thinks about its products and fans
Wow this set look great I have been collecting perrys for nearly 10 years now But with the look of these miniatures I must get some from warlord games
This looks so awesome. I love this time period, studied it for two years lol. I’m definitely going to be getting the collectors edition :D.
Hmmmm, yes please. The terrain looks awesome!
That’s a fantastic looking set! Warlord, you never cease to impress! Keep up the great work!
I really like what Warlord is doing with their newer box sets and terrain.
This set looks cool, it is way out of my price range, but still.
Very nice interview and a good looking set. I like how you manage to create these news items on the spur of the moment and make them look good. I’m tempted to start Napoleonics now. 🙂
Fantastic. Wish we had more historical players in the local area.
Well I would like to have a set. Let’s start saving !!
Very nice and flexible terrain. Love it…. would also love to get my hands on that Brit Starter box.
I was really considering getting into this period. Looks fantastic!
My fascination with this hobby started over *cough* four *cough* ty years ago playing Napoleoniic battles with my elder brothers and their immense collection of Airfix soldiers. I was often allowed to play the troops in La Haye Sainte (i.e. don’t move them, just keep rolling to shoot).
Seeing these in 28mm scale is interesting and I’m fascinated as to how the Black Powder rules work. Movement trays of dozens of models at the smaller scale allowed large battles to be played in our boarded loft over many days in the school holidays. I suspect these will play a bit more skirmish like? Only one way to find out, so the prize looks like a good way to boot-up a new collection!
Nice. Warlord has some amazing box sets.
Fantastic stuff, always loved the Napoleonic era.
Great looking gaming piece.
Looks a lot better then my 15mm version.
