Happy Christmas to all.
Looking forward to this. Great end of year bonus.
Merry Christmas all!
On the first day of Christmas,
my true love sent to me…
-A leak in my water-bed!
That’s why I’m up so f***in’ early.
At least I found this to cheer me up while I await the dawn.
@10:50 Warren goes a bit Brian Blessed!
I thought he went a bit stoning scene in Life of Brian.
“Are there any women here?…”
Dive my hawkmen DIIIIIiiiiiiiiiive!
Flash AH-HA,
I was thinking the exact same thing 🙂
Napoleonic Skirmish? I’ve heard of people adapting the LOTR rules for such things and just found this link”””’: http://www.spiritofthegame.org.uk/voltigeur/
Some sprues have more skirmishy poses – Victrix for example.
GW Name Change syndrome? You’re right Warren, you’ve got to see it for what it is…
… IPR protectable naming!
lol
Merry Christmas Gents ….but please tell me this was pre-recorded, such devotion to duty is not required…….*sniff* ….it touching really……..I hope you all have a good day with friends and family. (that is to all the BoW boys AND their supporters. Merry Christmas 🙂
Merry Christmas everyone on Beast of War!
Merry Christmas fellow beasts. May you all have a great day.
Here you go Justin! @dignity @warzan
http://www.discovery.com/tv-shows/mythbusters/videos/polishing-a-turd-minimyth/
Merry Christmas everyone!
Merry Christmas guys and all the very best for your endeavours in 2017! Looking forwards to the FOW boot camp, more board game play throughs and Romain’s musings whilst painting up something special
Hope everyone has a peaceful & prosperous New Year 🙂
You’re coming to the FOW Boot Camp as well, @brucelea ? Awesome! Merry Christmas, and have a great New Year everyone! 😀
Thanks for your very in depth articles Dude. Always entertaining. I loved the Battle tech / Mech Warrior series of articles
Hoping you keep this up next year. Will be looking forward to them.
Hope you are having a happy holiday , and also a great New Year.
@oriskany, I just bought my Sal a very nice bag as part of a long term strategy to build up the brownie points (and guilt) so I can get myself a place. Merry Christmas to you and @gladesrunner.
PS Santa bought me shilkas and the complete range of game air paints in a handy case, my badger airbrush is going to get some serious hammer when we finish our travels.
Merry Christmas folks! Santa has brought Manny a minions fart gun, i was soooo proud… for the first 45 mins of it….
….my life is now ruined, set to a soundtrack of perpetual farting 🙁
Ancient Chinese secret, Army Painter Dragon Red spray and copious amount of AP Dark Tone 😉
Is that big beard rule actually a thing in Saga? Is there an alternative rule for those of us not blessed with such hirsuteness?
Youd think theres gotta be! @brennon any info on this? :)/
Would my outrageously hairy back be a suitable replacement in the Saga rules @brennon ?
don’t think us getting our hairiest bits out is going to end well
…is that what the lawyer told you?
Have a great time over the festive period everyone. D.xxx
Yes it is. I played against a young lad who had brought a knitted woollen beard to a tournament. It was a good deal greater than anything else on the day. I think it is a fun rule that helps set the tone for the spirit in which the game should be played.
that is fantastic in itself, I love that he embraced the beardiness inside himself and brought a knitted beard that is…. he’s a legend, no ifs or buts.
Urgh, well that’s a bit disappointing
You could always gel you hair into a beard and ‘tache over your face.would look cute and funny 🙂
It would be very Black Adder
I’ve gained by it and lost to it. I’ve never met anyone who has insisted that you have to abide by it. When faced by someone who can’t obviously grow a beard or moustache a simple re roll is the norm.
Nah, no excuse being a girl. These ladies all have better beards than me http://www.boredpanda.com/women-beards-hair-design-trend-ladybeards/
When I trim mine would you like me to save the bits for you? Bit of glue and nobody would know the difference…
It is in the rules just like some board games, have the one born closest to the Arctic circle go first.
Merry Christmas everyone…. 🙂
Merry Christmas. Warren, Osprey just published ‘Chosen Men’ a Napolionic skirmish game which seems rather like 40k but with black powder.
Good Yule and Happy New Year to everyone.
As for what I’d like to see in the coming year…Frostgrave and This is Not a Test would be great.
Merry Christmas All!
Am surprised to say I’m with Justin on the matter of Drop Bears! Yetis though are a different matter 😉
What a fabulous way to start Christmas Day, Backstage banter and a pot of coffee! Now to start on the beer 🙂
Peace and goodwill to all, except those pesky Walkers lol
@warzan Drop beats does not drop on you from CAVE it drop on you from trees get it right . now one of the few why to stop a Dropbear dropping on you face and claws your face off then maybe eat you is that you rubs some vegemite at the back of your ear
Best Christmas Day telly by far…
Merry Xmas folks!
I’m pretty sure Alan was at GW in 1987. He was hired as a caster in the early days of Citadel. Now he’s a free agent he seems like a good candidate for a Designer’s Studio interview..
Also, as I’m not FB friends with Alan, what other goodies is he selling, @warzan 🙂
Merry Christmas guys! Here’s to 2017!
oh and as for lets play vid i want to see is , can you guys finish playing kingdom death monster ?
Justin check out Schnauzer Face minis on You Tube for inspiration. Not only that most airbrushing is done on the complete model to achieve an overall lighting effect. Airbrushing Trollbloods is great as the models seem to of been almost designed for the process. In the new year I’m hoping to upgrade to a better airbrush to tackle the Infinity models to do them justice.
Good luck and enjoy the process, get stuck in is the best advice I can give.
Merry Christmas and a happy New Year to you all and your families.
Merry Christmas to all
Are you sure that dice bag is really a posing pouch?.h
Isn’t really I meant
Couldn’t be, not nearly enough space in it 😉
But it makes the correct noise and everything
Justin knew what it was too quickly and his reactions to it . He has stated he was a carpenter/ Chippy. I am thinking that is code speak for being a stripper.
Justin the Chippy-n-dale 🙂
Merry Xmas all.
Being from Australia I’d say the turbulence around Black Mountain makes perfect sense as the reflective nature of the rocks and the fact they would absorb heat at different rates to the surrounding countryside would mean updrafting air columns at irregular intervals, which would make flying over them difficult. Keep in mind of all the things here that can kill you, the sun here has got to be high on the list – it gets properly hot here, to the point where roads in regional Australia melt. With regards to the disappearances I’d attribute that to venomous snakes living in the crevices in the rocks rather than drop-bears.
And with regard to drop-bears, I’m just going to leave this here…
(language warning…)
https://youtu.be/R96VjeyIKmg
Disappearances – is that not truck-drivers?
From Ben’s description of Fury of Dracula, anyone else think it sounds like you should have the Benny Hill music playing as you play? ;p
“They’re spilling out of the sack” – think we’ve got half of the next Justins and Dragins strip written if it ever wanted to go down the Carry On-esque innuendo route ;p. As for wearing it, are you sure it’s not supposed to be worn lower @warzan? ;p
On beards: actually Warren, I think with that Santa hat you look more like Santa the Student years than a Babylonian ;). Either that or a younger Brian Blessed playing Santa.
The Dracula game is the sort of game be were producing in their golden age like warrior knights etc
I think GW also did a creepy mansion set – was that for Dracula? It had floorplans like Heroquest but a Lovecraft type vibe??
@warzan
https://toofatlardies.co.uk/product-category/sharp-practice/
I was going to suggest that but you have already, I’ll bring my copy up to show @warzan in the new year and try and suck him in
I’m really hoping Saga will finally get a little more attention with @lloyd now being into it as well.
A ‘Let’s Play’ is over due.. (completely beats me why there hasn’t been a Bootcamp yet..beer and beards fits both perfectly),
Totally over the moon to hear @warzan wants to get into Napoleonic skirmish 😎
Has he finally seen the light..?!?
But seeing is believing.. he will need painted miniatures. No cel shading here I’m afraid. No. Nope. Definitely not.
Poor John.
But I can help out should you get stuck..Speedpainting Naps is my favourite past time 😉
Personally I’m not keen on games without miniatures but I see the need for you to cater for all aspects of the hobby.
So yeah, Merry Christmas and roll on 2017!
Cheers
Andy
Osprey also do a Skirmish Game for Napoleonic Wars
https://ospreypublishing.com/chosen-men
waiting on my copy arriving, I’ve been really impressed with Osprey’s blue book series of games so I have high hopes for this one
Merry Christmas Weekender 🙂
@dignity you will do as you wish but I am with the guys on painting the Trollblood assembled. On a side note I bought an airbrush after a lot of deliberation and @nakchak article series. It was a pain to use at first but after some practice, damaged nozzles, watching BoW, some youtube channels and talking to some blogger friends I am slowly pushing forward with the learning curve. I do hate the in between cleaning 😉 On another side note, a great present Justin 😉
@brennon I got the same 🙂 plus the Blood Bowl 🙂
@warzan my first figures were Skaven. Believe it or not, I was able to assemble them in a way which makes it almost impossible to rank them up in a regiment tray 🙂 And thanks for the AoS conversion chart 🙂 I have the Island of Blood to assemble too 🙂 and I love the parts in which we see where’s John 😀 I hope my forum thread contributed to the idea. 🙂
All in all it was a great year all. Thank you 🙂
See you in 2017 🙂
LOL 🙂 Too many smileys? Comment awaiting moderation… 🙂
Also being an Australian, numerous federal, state and local government websites and other reputable organisations (like Australian Geographic) have internet articles and warnings about drop bears. (This probably say more about our national character than any real danger to tourists (worry about the reptiles and the arachnids (oh and the sharks oh and the jellyfish oh and the octopi) not the marsupials…. actually male platypus have a poisonous spur but they are monotremes) I’ll also contribute by leaving you with this TV ad
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0qHQHYmsUJc
enjoy Manny’s fart gun Warren
Merry Christmas and seasons greetings to everyone everywhere at BOW and who look at BOW from Cris and Victoria.
@warzan the glycerine you want is for cake decorating, pop into sainsburys, tescos or whatever shop is closest and you can pick it up for buttons. http://www.sainsburys.co.uk/shop/gb/groceries/droetker-glycerine-38g
The cough medicine would contain it, but it has a ton of stuff mixed in.
Can’t wait to see how Justin gets on with the King, great present and should be a really good challenge.
@lloyd I pity the sucker you’ve fooled to go halfers with you on Deus Vult, there’s one born every minute isn’t there.
oh wait it’s me isn’t it….. dammit!
Review asap please
will do as soon as they arrive, I’ve bulk ordered a few others to go with, also I’m planning on running Rorke’s Drift at Lisburn on 21st Jan if you’re free mate….and assuming David gives me the go ahead 🙂
Should be good…No longer have to work weekends well 1 in 6 I gave do a Saturday
You can buy pure glycerine in Lloyds the chemist for £1.98 for 200ml, great airbrush lube, paint drying retarder and secret ingredient in my fit water effects recipe…
Fit = DIY in autocorrect land
Cracking show chaps 😀 . Have to say, i’m with Lloyd on the whole name changing thing, there was absolutely no need other than copyright shenanigans, they should have left things as they were.
Too much caffeine cant even spell my own bloody name, not supposed to have any at all, ooops but it is Christmas.
Chris and Victoria
Season’s greeting to all
Merry Christmas to all and a happy new year.
May the dies be blessed but not much to keep the games interesting and exciting.
I would like to see more Kingdom Monster.
You may want to stop imagining guys, some of us don’t wear jammies.
Happy Christmas to you all. Think I might join you with a beer
@warzan – Let’s Play: Pandemic Legacy
@brennon – get in touch if you want an extra pair of hands on doing any LCG or boardgame coverage.
@lloyd – Even if the Deus Vult minis aren’t strictly speaking accurate for SAGA, it’s such an easy game to proxy that it won’t matter. We started out using Lord of the Rings minis for all the core book armies.
A late, and quite hung over, merry christmas to all you lads and lasses! I’m very much looking forward to a rather huge amount of bollocks next year, AKA next week =)
A short message to Warren, keep up the great smutty innuendo, it cracks me up every time =)
Merry Christmas guys. The Two Fat Lardies rules Sharp Practice are an interesting set. Card driven but with many different ways of using the cards.
I miss Dead Dave, and his wonderful toys.
You guys should make up a reason to get him back, or as you were joking a few weeks back, he should be your first victim to kidnap and keep on the show.
If you are reading this Dave, Hope you are having A Great X-mas and have an even Better New Year.
Merry Christmas
Thanks for taking the time this year to bring us news, tips, and generally entertain us.
I would recommend basing your Napoleonics on 20mm square bases. Stick some magnetic tape under each base. This will allow you to use them for Sharps Practice. Then create movement or formation stands 40mm x 40mm or larger 80×40 so that can you can use them for Black Powder.
Painting a Napoleonic army… I build and base each Regiment for Black Powder. Then I either paint a group of 8 or the whole regiment of 20 at a time. I use an airbrush for the base uniform jacket.
I have been using this process for the last two months since the guys in my group made me go 28mm Napoleonic. They wouldnt let me use my already large army of 28mm American War of Independence British Army.
Happy Christmas!
Doesn’t the running order usually get thrown ou the window? 😉
CHEERS! hic!…oh I think I may have had too much already
http://www.beastsofwar.com/members/warzan/ that’s not a dice bag, eww, lol 😀
Welcome to Age Of Sigmar guys (poor John)
Looking to the future, 40K End Times? tentatively hopeful, lots of potential.
Roll on 2017 here’s to another year of hobby fun times. Cheers!
Merry Christmas everyone!
Happy Christmas
Actually Sarrissa offers movement trays for round bases:
http://www.sarissa-precision.com/medium/cat1603369_2597861.aspx
So you could go with the round bases for skirmish and then rank and file.
Happy Holidays
Here is to hoping to see you all in 2017
god jul…. I know that’s not right but it’s the closest I can manage matey 🙂
looking forwards to seeing you in 2017 and getting a pint or two, or three…
Hi guys have nice Christmas a good new year
Warren broke his Sevitor j0|-||\| L’/0|\|5 😀
At least they Kept his ankle chain hidden 😉 so that was nice .
lets start a campaign of the emancipation of Lyons . To free John from his servitude to Warren. We need to release mister Lyons back into the wilds; so he can be free again.
I think what broke him is that he has not built and painted enough Tanks this year.
Merry Christmas All!
Wonderful show lads, I will admitted to some surprise when @warzan combined the two articles. I nearly pissed myself laughing! @dignity‘s face was priceless….. poor Llyod was wondering what the hell was going on.
I will accept @dignity‘s most humblest apologies on behalf of myself and my fellow Australians at @dignity‘s blatant derision and disbelief in one of our most sacred animals.
And yes I will still send Anzac bikkies after @warzan sends photo’s of @dignity‘s chastisement
@warzan can we have a pet Dropbear for the Dropbeasts mascot … please can we… please it would be awesome ..:-)
Wouldn’t you rather just play Dropbear Commander?…
So funny; I am imaging flaming Koala Bears plummeting down from orbit.
I can not get that out of my head now, nor stop laughing. Made my day that did.
Thanks Duder.
Lol!!
Could be an additional range to the peeeegs by the dice bag lady
I would love to see what rules Dave and Andy would come up with for them . Bear Barrage ? as a special attack ? Antipodean attack animal ? Koala Killer Kanones ?
the thought visuals of that concept made me laugh, Thanks @redben
Merry Christmas all!
@warzan My choices for Napoleonic skirmish rules would be Muskets and Tomahawks by Gripping Beast, Sharpe’s Practice by TFL, and Chosen Men by Osprey.
Another great year of entertainment. Thanks Guys.
Happy Holidays to all The Beasties crew and have a great new year , and may the website continue to grow and flourish.
Guys I mention it constantly but I would like to pay more than price of Back Stage membership.
Have the usual very low price , and then optional 1 of payments, up to paying more a month every month. With a reward of say a community gold button as profile picture for single payments and 3 levels of elite prestige profile pictures for those paying extra monthly.
That is enough of a reward to those paying extra considering that your Back Stage Pass fee is too low for the amount of content you provide, heck even on a free account you give more than a lot of web sites do on their paid memberships.
Again thanks for another great year guys, and an even better one next year.
Can always donate backstage passes
True and I think I did during the 4K centurion thing.
But that is buying a service that they have to provide. I just want to give them money as a bonus to say thanks for the amazing work, you are worth more a month than the amount I pay a year. ATM I could not afford to pay 2 annual subscriptions, but I could manage to pay another £4-5 a month.
Finally best holiday wishes and a great New Year to all my Homies in the Back Stage Crew Community . Peace Out Y’All
A big thank you to all the BoW team. Today is always a tough day for me and it was really nice having you guys help to take my mind off things. Have a great Christmas everyone
Merry Christmas
What @dignity describes is standard procedure in painting large models in Ganpla (gundam Plastic model) and large scale garage kits airbrushing. it would not be as popular technique if the issues you describe had not shorted out already, Justin you should check it out in depth, but the basics are you prep the model including the gap filling from the start before you even prime it (alternatively light prime gap filling sanding and prime again as needed) including the pinning, until you have a fully assembled model in dry fit, unassemble, put each individual part in skewers and mount them on a piece of foam you have to airbrush similar things at the same time and together.
As you can imagine this technique requires lots of masking and sense of direction for the highlights, but gives stunning and smooth results, but it takes time, it is not the best for small models or to put out an army, but for big display pieces, it works.
Drop bears! what a laugh, I’m with Justin on with one
Merry Christmas everyone! It has been a great year with the BOW community and I hope everyone had an awesome Christmas with gaming gifts galore and a great family/friends to play them with .
Happy holidays guys. Thanks for the great year. Looking forward to see what you guys do next.
@dignity you should put the mountain king together first. There is so much green stuff needed for the gaps, it is not even funny.
Merry Christmas one and all. Hope you’re having an awesome day 🙂
Happy 2017! Watch out for drop bears, eh!
Just a note – when you use empty paint pots for your mixed colours. Make little labels (Avery or whatever) that you can put right on the bottles (you can even put down a drop)). Put your color mix directions on the label and you don;t have to worry about looking them up all the time – and if you do save them as a file, you’ll have record in case you get paint on the bottle….(if you are very messy) but I have never had the problem.
Merry Christmas from Canada!
Re the Australian Black Rocks – while Australia is hot, black rocks would be hotter! Hot air rises, so you can expect turbulence when flying over them. As for magnetic anomalies, I’ve encountered a few while flying over here – so not to be dismissed out of hand.
As far as looking forward to things in the new year: Blood & Plunder; Blackwater Gulch; Vampire Hunters – just some of the Kickstarters I’m waiting for. As with @warzan interested in “Sharpes Practice” and “Chosen Men”, plus anything else catching my “shiny” syndrome. 🙂
i love the cut away gags with warren and john so much, please keep them coming, they’re getting funnier each time!
Well I’m looking forward to a boardgame called Gloomhaven. It I predict as been an outstanding game for 2017. I’d love you guys to play a game and give us your thoughts. It’s a dungeon delving game with a hint or two of RPG. Right up my street.
I hope you do more board game reviews this next year there are so many great games out there and fill that gap between wargaming. Happy Xmas guys and have a great new year.
guys I friggin’ lost it with that male thong “dicebag” comic GOLD
OK guys the Pandemic minis Kickstarter was a bit ambitious and so they are cancelling it to start a new one in the new year.

From the creators:
HELLO BACKERS!
We would like to let you know that based on community feedback and our over-optimistic goals, we will suspend and relaunch this campaign. Thank you sincerely for your support and candor. We learned so much.
Our re-launch date will be February 1 with a more exciting and achievable campaign, including an expanded scope and realistic Stretch-Goal add-ons. We hope you will support us for this second go-round and we’ll keep you up-to-date on our progress. Please tell your friends, family and fellow gamers about us.
Happy Holidays and our best wishes for the New Year!
I liked this as it was a way to really improve the characters a bit and give you a little bit more for the boardgame which is one of the favorites in our home. When the next project comes out next year hopefully everyone will give it a look.
MERRY CHRISTMAS and a Happy New Year!
I’ve ordered some of the alclad 2 paints to try out the scheme from Goblin Gaming’s video tutorial that was discussed here They are enamels rather than acrylics (like humbrol) so you will need your spraymask..
They arrived just before Christmas, but the black gloss primer was backordered, but I have the other parts and will try them out and let you know how I get on.
Sorry, should have mentioned in the earlier post…
What I’d be keen to see from BoW:
– More coverage of RPG’s. Appreciate the style of game would not lend itself to a video streaming or chat show format but perhaps an on-going article series (or even linked stories in Reroll or similar) might be an effective way to cover?
– A Frostgrave week (or in studio campaign or similar?). Was voted best minis game in the 2015 BoW Awards so would suggest that many others in the community would also enjoy hearing your perspective on the game.
– Perhaps a revisiting/refresh of the Featured Games area of the forums? I note that some of them, whilst brilliant games, do not seem to to get too much traffic.
– More hobby time. (Ulterior motive here)… Would love to see more progres from the team shown off during the hobby time on the XLBS, as that would be evidence that you weren’t all pushing yourselves too hard at work each day and that things form a business perspective were bedded down and running smoothly. I don’t think any of us would want to see the team burning yourselves out churning out content for us lot, so wishing you all more time to relax 🙂
What I’m personally looking forward to in 2017:
– Blood & Plunder. Didn’t back the KS so keen for this to hit retail so I can check it out.
– Conan RPG. No explanation needed here..
– More great gaming systems/artwork/minis/ideas/terrain/concepts/stories than I could possibly ever have the time or money to delve into properly. We are all fortunate to be living in a golden age of gaming, long may it continue to be so 🙂
Merry Christmas all!
Okay I propose a new rule on Warren’s journies into nonsense. You need a gong on set that Justin can hit when he’s officially not buying it anymore and he’s just done. If Warren puts up a bad photoshop then he gets gonged off.
Dropbear conversion competition, anyone?
there’s magic in the air. merry Christmas.
first, seeing you play out the rest of kingdom death monster. pretty sure your going to do that anyway, but just in case. the miniature releases would be great to see in the news. they don’t happen often and i’m sure Adam would be happy to let you know when new releases are availably.
if your going to do more card and board games then RPG’s should not be forgotten.
board games wise I think star trek and dr who will be a lot of fun and ascendency will be really interesting. conan would be pretty cool seeing as it’s tied into the whole mythic battles
phenomenon. wouldn’t mind seeing deep madness when it hits. STAR WARS is not getting enough love considering how many people are playing. STAR WARS rebellion looks very cool and should definitely have a lets play considering you could tick that box in your star wars content relatively easily. STAR WARS destiny is a game I’d watch but it should maybe be covered in competitive play.
on the subject of competitive play I think you should do your best ,given the resources at hand, to cover the nationals for the big hitters. I know you have your hands full at the games expo and that covering top table in the final for multiple game systems is a big ask at the moment. but now fantasy flight are on side with relic wars it would be a great time to start covering x-wing, armada, imperial assault and destiny. a hell of a lot of people play these games, which is a boat load of people tuning in to beasts of war. other than that you are already doing warmachine and hordes European finals. I would love to see that extended to infinity, malifaux , dropzone/fleet, guild ball and mythic battles when it hits looks set to break into this group.
i would really like to see more comprehensive coverage of these most popular systems. with coverage of the league play scenarios. so for instance with my beloved infinity it would be the ITS scenarios. the first year would be tough but after you had covered the scenarios once you would have only the narrative campaign to follow and the odd new scenario to cover each season. it would be great if carlos and CB or hawk for example could come over to film each scenario for competitive play. if not and you have the bodies and the knowledge base you could do it your selves.
it would be cool if you could have links to the likes of mayacast and orbital bombardment on their site and beasts of war for example. everybody wins.
you know me’ spread the love.
definitely take up redbens offer of helping with the card and board game content. he should be the first member of a UK team along with Ben if an increase in subscriptions allows it. the man is free at the minute and you should strike while the iron’s hot if its possible and if not let him get envolved as much as he can this year and see how subscription has been impacted over the course of the year. if redben is willing to give it ago anyway then its a no brainer. no podcast for mythic battles yet and if you move now and support redben i’m sure you guys could run the podcast for mythic battles and open up this medium for you with one of the few games in that is in the competitive play bracket. don’t know if STAR WARS destiny has good coverage in podcast and you might be slow out of the traps for that one.
if the daring stuff is out then seeing you guys play a campaign as a group, maybe frost grave.
or a competitive campaign with dropfleet as a group. just a series of games that are linked as opposed to one off games would be cool. STAR WARS Armada the corellian conflict would be a campaign i’d watch that would attract a lot of viewers.
celebrity grudge matches would be fun. you guys taking on hawk or CB ect. would be very cool to see Andy chambers and dave take you guys on in dropfleet.
maybe playing some classics like hero quest and invite the best thing about hero quest guy, that would be epic.
DP9 has the Best Drop Bear information
Merry Christmas all, hope you all got plenty of gaming loot and had a great day!
Was a great show as always, really enjoyed it!
I’m very interested in the progress @dignity is going to post about regarding his airbrush. Its something that has always sounded so good to me but I’m always unsure I’d know where to start and like you guys were saying I’m one of those who is perhaps a little intimidated by the whole thing! Perhaps following along I can see someone else starting from where I would be and pluck up the confidence to give it a go.
Regards Age of Sigmar, it looks quite cool to me, I like the look of some of the miniatures so its something maybe next year I’d like to start looking at, perhaps I could start a small force and see how I picked the game up. Being a 40k enthusiast it may feel weird at the start, but could be a nice change.
Talking of 40k I’m excited and a little worried about the new edition. I think the game does need a little simplification, but I dont want to loose anymore of my armies flavour as with the last codex I feel I lost a fair bit of the abilities I had to create cool Space Wolf characters with a real background to them. But we will see. GW seem to be going in a good direction now so I’ll put faith in that!
Enjoy the rest of your holidays all!
Great video guys, thanks.
Its been a crappy year in general, but one of the best years for BoW content I think. You put out more stuff covering a bigger variety of games and genres than ever I think. AT least, that is what it seems like for me as a viewer.
So a big thanks from me, backstage is a bargain for what we get out of it.
Merry Christmas folks, though I’m finally getting to watch the show on Boxing Day morning. I was particularly interested in the paint discussion. I generally use Vajello paint along with GW but when I paint 54mm scale minis I tend to use my Rackham paint collection. Though I can’t believe Ben just admitted to the cardinal sin of not watering down his paint, lol.
On the airbrush side of things, I’m tempted to have a go but only for vehicles and large scale ministures. It’s just having room to do so, but I’ll be moving early next year and the plan is for me to have a man cave which will mean I’ll have space. I have a 3up of the Rackham Ninja goblin which I’ve had for a few years and not painted, this may become my airbrush project.
@warzan I’ve been in the same boat with my Waterloo set, and I’ve gone down the skirmish route simply because every time I took the set out I was put off by the sheer amount of minis. The way I went was round bases for skirmish troops, such as 95th rifles and square bases for one that could be ranked up. The rules I’ve gone for are Osprey’s Chosen Men is a great little rule set.
A great year! Great shows! SImply the best to get hyped on new and old wargames! Please keep up the lets play, they are the best xD
Drop bears are nasty all right but it’s the Hoop Snakes you really need to be careful of
Merry Christmas BOW
Loved the show. What I want to see this year;
1) Lloyd’s Saga army based on 25mm bases ( use conversion bases, try http://www.sarissa-precision.com/Conversion_Trays/cat1603369_2597854.aspx for KoW Historical)
2) Warren start a hobby blog on his Waterloo set from start to finish
3) See Justin use that airbrush.
4) A few hobby blogs with starter sets that show from out of the box all the way to completed and on the table
@warzan – wrong on AoS. The fact that everyone still call Aelfs Elves, Uruks orks, etc should tell you that GW’s name change was not fluff, just copy-right driven.
BTW the round bases look great, the problem is that AoS players take forever to use big units and often subconsciously rank them up.
Isn’t Ork a GW copyrighted word?
in regards to greenskins yes, but ork exists as a word outside of that so they can’t stop people using it, hence the change, similar to imperial guard becoming the asstray millietarium or starmy or whatever it is. If you can’t sue someone for using it, it needs to be changed.
I was under the impression it was always spelt Orc until GW came along
for a tide of green mushroomoid warriors yes, but the word ork exists outside of 40K, so they can’t stop people using it. Orourorourkroooruk, on the other hand is totally theirs, so if they catch people the banhammer comes down hard
But just found that it is a surname as well
and a folklore name for a forest demon/creature in austria
Belated Merry Xmas all.
Wanted to share my thoughts on Justin’s airbrushing and whether to leave a model in bits or assemble before painting.
I managed to spend time earlier this year with Jérémie Bonamant from Figone, and this question cropped up; he taught me a lot about lighting and colour theory.
His advice was the same as Warren’s; if it’s in shadow, paint it like it’s in shadow. I.e. Put on a basecoat and maybe a basic highlight and then leave it. Concentrate on areas that catch light and are the focus of the model, you won’t see the rest.
His cthulhu model:
http://www.figone.fr/en/cthulhu-le-dormeur-de-rlyeh/
Was painted entirely assembled save for the tip of the trident, and nothing on the chest, inner arms or upper abdomen apart from some basic work to the tentacles has been painted above a simple highlight, and all of this was done by brush, not airbrush.
From personal experience, doing corrective work after assembly when a paintjob is nearly done is a tremendous pain in the arse. Build first, then paint.
Merry Christmas to all of you guys, hope you have a great few days and get loads of new plastic!!
Happy gaming!!
Lol, the only tourist thats going to be eaten by a drop bear, (cough cough) are silly idiots with over active imagination. You will how ever get eaten by a shark, crocodile, stung by spiders, wasps, fire ants, ticks, scorpions, snakes (some of the most nastist in the world) and pissed off Aussies sick of silly poms looking for drop bears. lol
A merry merry christmas everyone. It has been a great year and next will be even better Im sure.
In 2017 I am looking forwards to getting my Dropfleet pledge done and finding an event or two to go explode some spaceships! While pushing forwards with my Batman, Malifaux, Dreadball v2 and more Dropzone. Should be busy!
From BoW I am hoping to see lots more lets play content hopefully featuring a variety of games and players. That said, dont be afraid to revisit the games you like from time to time, it is good to see games from players who know the rules well rather than every game being a learning curve.
Finally a prediction. 2017 will be the year of mass battle games. We have 40k end times, The Other Side, Rune Wars and Warpath all on the way and looking to grow communities. It will be very interesting to see if these games have what it takes to entice players to get invested and move back towards these systems. It will be a highly competitive marketplace I think as many gamers will not feel able to commit to more than one or two of these games due to both the cost and time demands of fielding so many models on larger tables.
What I’d love to see you ask. You provide for most of it, but one thing I’d love to see you do some hybrid or crossover gaming. Basically having larger battles, skirmishes etc, that helps create a framework for various RPG scenarios. For skirmish battles, Morrow project works well, along with many skirmish systems. Same for Dust, where you can use the similar rules, or Achtung Cthulu. Fantasy is perhaps even easier to do.
Merry Christmas to you all and if possible some features about airbrushing as I am also going on this adventure with the Yu Jing from infinity
Hope everyone has a great new year
excellent choice
@warzan
Not sure if this is the kind of “mystery” that you’re interested in. A monster mystery from my home town: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mothman
Local legend has it that the area where the Mothman was sighted was a site for secret experiments conducted by the US military during WWII. More can be found here: http://www.npr.org/sections/pictureshow/2012/01/23/145334460/welcome-to-the-tnt-area-home-of-the-mothman
Allegedly, after the reports of the moth man came out, strange men, dressed all in black, came to the town and interviewed people. They supposedly walked in a strange way, as if their knees were hinged opposite of ours.
Finally, some months after the Mothman sightings, there was a tragedy: the so-called Silver Bridge collapsed on December 15, 1967. 46 people were killed. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Silver_Bridge
Many people in the town (at least those that believed in the mothman) were split into 2 camps with one group blaming the mothman for the collapse, and the other claiming he was trying to warn people away.
Please note: The bridge collapse is very, very real and has had long-standing mental repercussions on the residents of the town. Many, myself included, even though I wasn’t even born at the time, find crossing bridges to be, umm, concerning.
Have fun!
I also forgot about Chief Cornstalk. You see, in 1774, a Shawnee (Native American tribe) chief led a force against Fort Randolph, which stood on the grounds where Point Pleasant would be later formed. He lost, and agreed to accept the Ohio River as the boundary between the white man and Shawnee. He then began working to keep his tribe, and others in the area, neutral toward the white settlers.
In 1877 he visited Fort Randolph on a diplomatic mission. He was detained by the Fort’s commander for unknown reasons. Then, after a group of unknown Native Americans killed some of the soldiers from the fort, he and his retinue (including his son) were tortured and executed. It is said that he then cursed the land.
This curse led to many forms of trouble for the area: https://www.prairieghosts.com/cornstalk.html
Big plans ahead.
Apologies if anyone’s suggested this before (not shlepping through four pages of comments but could opening some categories of backstage stuff to free members keep the content flowing for your development weeks?
Few days late but Merry Christmas all, hope you all got some new shinies from Santa 🙂
What would I like to see in 2017:
– 8th Ed 40K
By all means I hope it has been streamlined, but not to the same extent of AoS, that was too far for me.
– Shattered Earth will be released! Woohoo! 🙂
So hopefully you lovely gents will bring us some more articles and gameplay with the guys at Massive Awesome
– Trying something new!
As always there are plenty of shinies out there in our little corner of the world, hopefully next year will bring us all a new game that grabs us by the kahunas and pulls you into its awesome little world
And one last one…
– AvP…
Prodos to pull their thumb out of their ass and finally deliver the Kickstarters to all the backers… OK maybe that ones a stretch…
Love your Justin mind blowing stories @warzan!
Have you ever heard about the city of Pumapunku?
And if you are interested in the story of the sasquatch of the hungarian mountain Mátra, feel free to pm me! 😉
looks like you need to practise your flick technique with your gun @dignity ?
More than anything else I have seen – those Metallic Red Thousand Sons Heresy sprays have made me want to use an airbrush.
They found an ancient cave in Australia that was a prehistoric sink-hole full of extinct monsters like Giant Marsupial Rat-Lions and Mammoth Killer Koalas.
http://donsmaps.com/naracoorte.html
It’s possible that some of those creatures still survive underground living in the caves like those Mammoths they found in Nepal.

Check out – The Marsupial ‘Elephant’ – Diprotodon australis!
And ‘The Great Rainbow Serpent’ Wonambi naracoortensis is straight out of Conan
The Marsupial Tiger looks like a Skaven.
Justin should read – Mammoth Hunt: In Search of the Giant Elephants of Nepal and Man After Man: An Anthropology of the Future
A friend of mine gave this as an Xmas card – Its a Tundra Dweller getting mauled by another Hominid three million years in the future…
I think there is a website where the whole book is online and clickable.
@warzan you forgot to start the easy street song for john’s room?
love the dice bag/banana hammock @warzan
the drop beast deadlier that the Scottish midge?
a great show guys have a great new year party.
Merry Christmas!
Merry Christmas!!! Thanks for putting the show together over the holiday. Also – I laugh hysterically during those ‘poor John’ bits (not sure if they’ve been named officially, so I just kinda made that up). 😀
Poor John. He suffers so!
@warzan I get the whole hobby anxiety. I have a bunch of Blood Bowl teams needing painted, my old Space Wolf army needs repainting, I have four boxes of Calth to paint as 30k Word Bearers, a bunch of Dropfleet minis, two copies of Space Hulk and about 14,000 points of Eldar still to paint. It drives me a little mad.
I was very busy lately. I only tell you that I see this episode at Friday 30 December!
But it was a great job-break indeed!
Thank you guys for what you do, ALWAYS is great to know that you try to move hobby forward and I really enjoy it!HAPPY NEW YEAR !!!!!
Thank you, lads from Beasts of War…
its been a pleasure watching and also learning lots.
Quick one to Warzan, you can have Orcs in Napoleonic dress and other fantasy in different uniforms, as a skirmish might be better, but then your painting different troopers for different game lol both Napoleonic.
(run five steps, forward roll, hands up in the air….calling out Happy New Year Boys and Girls).
Got sent a few Harlequins which are going to be my holiday project. So happy to have some minis to work on and cannot wait to get gaming when I return to the UK next year.
Looking forward to the new support by ForgeWorld and the Middle Earth Team at GW for the Hobbit Strategy Battle Game. It gets almost zero coverage on BoW, though Ben puts the odd post up) and it’s easily GWs best rule set, talk about simplifying 40K, look at SBG!
ForgeWorld have just released the Iron Hills dwarves and Dain Ironfoot and have started releasing the Gundabad troops from the films. So so so good! Let us know what you think guys!
Finally had time to watch the show, was far too busy with food and presents over the Christmas to sit on my own like a hermit – that’s reserved for the weekends, lol. Now to catch up with the next weekenders. Happy New Year everyone!
