The UFO dates back to 1966 … so it might predate the references you mention.
Design by Frits Philips, who was the CEO of Philips itself.
I remember it visiting it when it was a science museum in the late 70’s or early 80’s. It definitely was in a state of decline during my second visit as some exhibits didn’t work.
