@graystoak I think what @warzan’s idea is that all other things being equal, adding another faction to a game makes it exponentially more difficult to balance the game.
A “sort of” real world example of this is Hearthstone (a digital card game based on World of Warcraft) . It began with 9 classes (factions), and many believe that initially there were plans to add more as two classes from WoW – Monk and Deathknight were missing. They have struggled to produce a balanced game, with 9 factions, and plans to introduce new classes have been shelved – they have introduced Deadknights in a different way (which really wasn’t balanced).
It is an interesting game of thought, anyway.
