16 – 2 – 2018 … so a little over 4 years. For a device that’s in daily use it’s not *that* bad.
Biggest issue is the lack of security updates (still on Android 9), which is not cool at all.
My previous phone failed because the battery had lost its will to live. I replaced that one because I ‘needed’/’wanted’ a new phone anyway.
iFixit do have info on how to open up the device with the help of a heat gun.
Problem is that replacing the battery also requires replacement of the NFC-antenna as you can’t remove it without damaging it.
As I need my phone operational I can’t afford to wait for repair that can’t be done same day.
They rate it 6/10 for repair.
Knowing what is wrong is one thing … but replacements are rare, because everyone phonerepair shop appears to be focussed on Samsung devices and Apple. Sony is rarely listed …
So … lots of things that remind me (a) always have a backup smart phone and (b) I iz too late now.
I will see if something is possible, but not getting my hopes up.
— edit —
Either that repair shop doesn’t know squat or my current phone really is dead as a dodo.
Or maybe it’s just not profitable for them to even attempt a fix, which I suspect to be the actual reason.
So I got myself a new phone … (at least there’s extra holiday money this month so that should soften the pain a bit).
Heck … I either save that money for emergencies or spend it on new gadgets anyway.
(that’s my excuse and I’m sticking with it :P)
