and I suppose an added bonus is we do get to spend more time looking for stuff to go on the show.

This is where I’ve kind of lost interest in the show. When I first discovered Beasts of War it was like a “deep dive” into tabletop wargaming. It felt like a bunch of people with a deep love of what they were *doing* sharing it with a community.

Now the show feels more like “what new stuff can we show?” and the level of expertise/involvement doesn’t seem to be there.

Gerry talking about 3d printing – a topic he only recently stopped snarking about – feels forced and insincere. Ben shows an enthusiasm but doesn’t seem to have the indepth experience (of 3d printing) to properly explain what we’re looking at.

Free was a breath of fresh air from a “what are the views from someone who knows nothing about this” angle. But it feels like a lot of the time, because of the sheer churn of content – looking for the next oooh shiny – everyone is just sharing internet links saying “I found this”.

The “old format” clearly took a massive amount of time and effort. But it showed in the results.

I used to look forward to the old weekender and a couple of hours of “me time” to watch what “the gang” had been up to. I don’t think I’ve seen a full episode for months.

A change in presenting team to facilitate a format viewers would be happier with? I think Ben is the only regular presenter compared with a few years ago. So it’s already happened between “then” (studio-based shows) and now (virtual zoom party).

From a business point of view, you haven’t lost a subscriber – I’d still pay a couple of quid if it means there’s still an OnTabletop website – but you have, I’m sorry to admit, lost a viewer. For now, at least.

(Hey, you did ask for our thoughts ?)
