@ced1106 for me it wasn’t money. It was more like not being into pc’s to the point I’d built my own.
I started with a 80286 (turbo power always enabled :)) and more or less skipped the 80386 generation (never got into Doom as a result either).
I got into it again when Pentiums became a thing and had an AMD cpu.
I remember getting Unreal and the game being next to unplayable due to the lack of processing power, but I kind of liked it.
Oh … and I had a Dreamcast (when they were nearly gone, so I got to enjoy the final few months/year … ), because at a time I had become tired of the stupendously complicated way of getting pc games to run and wanted something that was plug&play.
(sidenote : it sucks that modern consoles are very much pc’s given that you need to install things before you can play a game. And they’ve got the day 1 patches as well … )
@pagan8th there was this boardgame called “Hate” by the website for rating people’s paintjobs, which had cannibalism as a mechanic … I think you’d have liked it. IIRC it was based on a comic book series of the same name.

I’ve spent first half of sunday just surfing the internet looking at pretty paintings and colour schemes to use as inspiration, so I only did some shopping for things I needed for the bits I need to do.
Only thing I mind is not the ever expanding joblist, but the sort of minor depression that hits me when things aren’t going the way I wanted them to. Getting back into a positive mindset takes a bit of effort, but it is rewarding in its own way too.
