If it makes you feel better, when Peter Parker made his debut in Amazing Fantasy # 15 in September 1962, it was as ‘Spiderman’. Since the first issue of his own title the following March, however,  the name has been rendered ‘Spider-Man’ in all media. Admittedly that is only marginally more recent than 1962, but it could be argued that you were technically correct.
