    Thanks everyone, as I said it sounds like GW is up to it’s old tricks,  lol.  I have several Frank Chadwick games and love them all, Traveler, Twilight 2000, Sky Galleons of Mars and Space 1889, 2300AD.  I also have Car Wars which I still play but sadly due to how Steve Jackson Games treated me I will never do business with them again.  Though I have played and liked some of their resent games.

    My original Rogue Trader army of 2000pts  consisted of only 12 miniatures compared to other armies being fielded with no less then 50 or more miniatures.  My captain was 500pts by himself.  My Harlequins were another 12 miniature army of 2000pts and my Scouts were about 20 miniatures.  All of these were tournament legal and I won several tournaments with them.  My female space marine army was about 25 miniatures and were also tournament legal.   As I said in my original post I stopped playing when they changed the system so radically that my armies were null and void.

    Quite some tall tales, mister. There were female “Space Marines” (then called warriors) in the first batch of Rogue Trader minis, like these lovely ladies here: external-content.duckduckgo.com

    So I really doubt they needed you as an inspiration for Sororitas. Also tournaments in 2nd edition were a joke with Vortex missiles and grenades and all the other totally whack stuff. It was fun to play with friends. Fair, or balanced, it was not. And if GW had gone on to cater to people who make armies from 12 cheap models they would have gone bankrupt a long time ago.

    While there may have been female warriors, they were not considered space marines and were support units only.  In 1995 we, my gaming group and I, came up with a way in which you could have a fully augmented female Space Marine unit within 25 years instead of the piece meal augmentations which existed at the time.  We presented our idea to GDW and they took off with it coming out with the first Sisters of Battle units in 1998.  While I admit they could’ve been working on improving the female space marines into actual units, there is the strong possibility we helped them along as the original history of the Sisters was very similar to what we came up with.

    As to your second point about the rules for tournament play being a joke I agree. My 500pt captain carried a vortex grenade launcher which played havoc with dreadnoughts and anything else caught in the blast area. We even pointed out the fact during one tournament, in which so much EMP missiles and grenades had been used that neither side would be able to move or engage due to electromagnetic saturation.  The match was called a draw.  So yes I agree changes had to be made. However they took it to the extreme before reining it back.

    You keep calling them GDW, but it was GW, not GDW. GDW was an entirely different company, mate.

    GW ( Games Workshop ) was originally GDW ( Games Design Workshop ).  Not sure of when they changed their name but I know them as GDW so that’s what I call them.

    I would love to know when they were called Games design workshop as they were known as Games Workshop  when they released the Owl and the Weasel in 1975

    Yeah, sorry everyone, my mistake.  After double checking with a friend of mine who was a designer as well as a distributor.  GW was originally going to call itself GDW but that was already taken by Frank Chadwick so they went with GW.  Though from what he says the 2 companies were talking about doing some collaborations under one or the other’s tag.

    Gary Gyax wanted to merge TSR and GW but GW decided against it  so they lost I think the printing rights to D&D. It one of the reasons Rogue Trader came out if I remember correctly
