I think it already caught up with them … they just haven’t told their backers the bad news yet.
When Scale 75 had issues getting the airbrushes they only admitted after the fact that they were in financial troubles, which caused their finance department to implement certain restrictions (not being able to pay for stuff does delay things a bit 😉 ).
However they did tell us what had happened …I don’t expect we will ever get a clear and consice answer from CGL. They’ve hidden themselves behind soo many 3rd parties that they can easily blame everyone else instead.
I’m pretty sure the ‘delay’ at customs in the EU is yet another excelsheet error on their part.
January 6, 2025 at 6:39 pm #1910585Just got the CGL Newsletter. And it says:
BATTLETECH JANUARY RELEASES:
Mercenaries Box Set – $74.99Flock you you flocking cnuts. What happened to “no retail until KS is fulfilled?”. B*stards.
January 6, 2025 at 7:44 pm #1910586Cool, I guess my localish shop will be getting their stuff sooner rather than later, and my pre-order will be available for pickup.
Why do KS when I can get it all (including the “exclusives”) by just being patient and picking it up later?
January 6, 2025 at 7:56 pm #1910589Australian ship disappeared in to the bermuda triangle?
EU stock is being held in customs as they mistook the boxes of tiny plastic mechs for actual weapons?
CGL to post an update sometime in 2025?
Meanwhile Leviathans backers are carving their own minis out of butter.

They’ve already said that the UK region would be ‘waiting’ for a few extra weeks to allow for EU delivery to begin.
I think one of the updates indicated that they’d be prioritising retail-level backers as well.I seriously doubt they are going to delay even more now that the EU is being held at customs (due to their incompetence).
I’m pretty sure they’ll find a way to spin this as yet another one of their ‘oopsies’ and claim it only applies to the USA side of things.
I doubt any retailers with (incoming) stock are going to hold any longer after this …
At this point I’d doubt the game has the momentum it needed to get going outside of the EU.
We’ll have to see what way CGL will spin this in their next update in a few weeks after their live stream (are they doing them?).
January 7, 2025 at 7:51 pm #1910709Good news, everyone!
As hoped, my local shop got the KS stuff in. They’re waiting for me today. I will probably head there after lunch!January 7, 2025 at 8:21 pm #1910735January 7, 2025 at 8:41 pm #1910748I’m not gloating, honest! I still feel bad for all of you that are waiting.
I’ll post photos of what I get so you know how awesome your haul will be, too!
EDIT: What I came home with! I got $50 off the order (about 10%) for a surprise bonus, too.

January 8, 2025 at 5:33 am #1910791Sooo…. Update time? Kind of?
Source: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/cgl/battletech-mercenaries/posts/4279174
UK: The UK Hub now expects to be wrapped with Wave 1 and 2 around January 17th, but this is just an estimate at this time. Wave 3 will follow and we’ll communicate as we know more.
EU: Customs has received all requested documentation, and we are now waiting for the shipment to be released. Once we receive an update, either from customs or the fulfillment hub, we’ll pass it along.
Good for the UK. I don’t believe them a word on the EU side though. Can you even call it an Update when basically they are saying “nothing new, sucks to be you” for all EU backers?
Retail Street Dates: We have continued to receive occasional reports regarding retailers in unfulfilled regions releasing Kickstarter products prior to established street-dates. As these cases are identified, we are taking appropriate action as necessary.
And do what? Did any store sign an NDA? Any other legal document? Will they send bullies that smash up inventory? Good flocking luck with that gov’ner.
January 8, 2025 at 3:59 pm #1910888Sucks for the EU, for sure. How they managed to screw up paperwork, for something they would normally do? Or maybe it has to do with the new GPSR regulations that they probably overlooked. Maybe?
The big mech is epic. It’s going to be so much fun to paint!
January 8, 2025 at 5:10 pm #1910906Thank goodness for Gundam Assemble. Should hasten the end of CGL.
January 8, 2025 at 7:49 pm #1910907@grantinvanman it’s not like nobody knew these new guidelines were coming …
AFAIK they were already active for a long while, but they hadn’t been enforced (which isn’t unusual when things like this get implemented).Every competent company either had plans in place or rushed to get things out the door before the cut-off date (which is one of the small kickstarters I had backed did )
With any other kickstarter I wouldn’t be as upset if retail got stuff before backers, because that’s kind of why I back. Getting amazing new games & things out there in the world is great for everyone. I feel no need to want to support this company and I’d rather see the game die, so a more competent company could pick it up instead.

It’s going to be interesting to see how that Gundam game is going to do.
January 8, 2025 at 7:54 pm #1910908The great irony of this horror-show of a kickstarter is that it has done two things:
1. convinced me that KS isn’t worth the possible pain
2. got me a massive a dose of Battletech nostalgia revival, resulting in me diving into the game.
Kind of funny.
I’m also looking forward to Gundam Assemble, but both sets have a place on my shelf, I think.
January 8, 2025 at 8:39 pm #1910910Most kickstarters in the tabletop-gaming section tend to be pretty predictable and reliable. Especially those focusing on minis and/or not tied to an IP.
CGL is part of a very very small subset of incompetent and greedy fckers who the entire world could do without.
Everyone else appears to be capable of (a) knowing how much to order and (b) knowing where the heck their stuff is up until that last mile (more than a few have posted the names of ships as they left port as well as tracking-links for the ships!).
CGL are really unique in their incompetence and mismanagement.
It’s the sort of stuff I’ve only ever seen when complete newbies do their first kickstarter … -
