Gamefound acquires Indiegogo
Today, we’re excited to share some big news: Indiegogo is joining forces with Gamefound. This marks the beginning of a new era for crowdfunding – one that’s better for backers, better for creators, and full of fresh possibility.
Indiegogo is one of the original pioneers of crowdfunding, with over 17 years in the industry, a community of 38 million members, and nearly $3 billion raised for ideas around the world. Known for launching bold projects in tech, design, film, and the arts, Indiegogo is a natural complement to Gamefound’s strength in tabletop.Let’s get straight to the highlights.
What You Need to Know
Gamefound’s proven technology – built with a laser focus on user experience – to power all Indiegogo categories, bringing powerful tools to creators across all categories.
Gamefound will remain dedicated to tabletop, but Gamefound campaigns will soon also be discoverable on Indiegogo.
Backers will be able to log in using either Indiegogo or Gamefound credentials, streamlining the experience.
For Indiegogo creators, friendlier business terms and policies to support a stronger platform.“It’s time for crowdfunding to be a forward-facing industry again,” said Julie dePontbriand, CEO of Indiegogo. “Gamefound’s technology is unrivaled, and we’re thrilled to bring it to Indiegogo’s diverse community. Together, we’re making crowdfunding more innovative, creator-friendly, and exciting than ever before.”
So one less competitor for Kickstarter. Will this be good? My gut says no.
backerkit is trying to become a crowdfunding platform itself as well (they’ve been spamming my mailbox ).
My impression was that IndieGoGo was more focused on electronics/hacking tools, but it’s not been big.
It sounds more like IndieGoGo bought out Gamefound, however its more likely to be a merger.
