I just got this e-mail form Mantic:

    IT’S COMING…

Experience one of the most iconic science fiction worlds ever created. Live, think and fight in a near-future world of cybernetics, espionage, and existential mystery. Explore the world of Major Kusanagi and the iconic Section 9.

The Ghost in the Shell – coming to tabletop in 2026.

    Expect more information next week!

There is also a link to subscribe to a newsletter.

I have no idea if this is going to be a boardgame, a skirmish game like Deadzone or something bigger.

To be honest I have never seen or read Ghost in the Shell, so I don’t even know what would fit best. But I think it’s interesting.

I’ve seen the Netflix series that got slagged off and the hollywood movie which also got slagged off. Not really into anime.

The movie was *eh* an acquired taste.
Not quite sure why they decided to change the background for the main character like that. 🙁
I did like how some of the scenes were almost shot for shot remakes from the anime.

    As for the game ?
I really want to know what the heck they’re trying to do with this one.
Maybe something like the Hellboy boardgame ?
Or something closer to Assassins’ Creed ?

I would have to know more before committing to this one.
I also wonder if doing another IP-based game release is a good thing. These things can be tricky depending on how much freedom the developers/designers get.
OTOH … Mantic has done rather well with the ones they’ve done so far.

Too many games, too many IPs getting licensed. My spouse is Asian and we watch a lot of anime, but very few would be inspiring enough to buy miniature games for.

@grantinvanman I think that applies to a lot of forms of entertainment out there.
Just because it was fun as one variant that does not mean it can or should be translated into another one.
Wether that’s book, movie, (video)game or even musical …

I think the setting itself has great potential for a rpg, because like bladerunner there’s that concept of what it means to be human and if machines could ever be more like us (or vice versa).

At the very least Mantic thought there was a game to be made out of all of that.

@grantinvanman have you ever watched: Cyber City Oedo 808

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pGSNhVQFbOc

I haven’t really watch much anime but way back Channel 4 in the UK used to have an anime night on a Friday night I think and Cyber City Oedo 808 was one of the shows and I always liked it.

@lloyd – haven’t seen that one (there are SO MANY!) – but will check it out now – thanks!

Binged it tonight – only 3 parts, very solid show. Final episode was by far my favourite!

Latest news suggests that it will be a RPG

Not quite sure if that is a good fit for Mantic, but it is a good fit for the setting.
