@pagan8th the three new games were Traitor’s Toll, Hairfoot Jousting, and SAS Rogue Regiment. The second edition was Dead Man’s Hand Redux — I picked up the three new books and a few new faction packs. I had played a bit of the first edition and decided to jump back in.
I also bought quite a few minis from Crooked Dice — a handful of Time Travellers and companions, and a few of the Colony 87 figures that I didn’t have already.
I got some wild west MDF buildings from Warbases and some basing stuff from Gamer’s Grass too. I was trying to prioritize things that aren’t easy to get in the US.
June 10, 2025 at 12:01 am #1932479Me and my mate are going to Essen for the last 10 years, except for the Corona years (they were cancelled) and the first year after because mouthguards where mandatory. We always used to go one day on Thursday or Friday. It’s about an hour and a half drive from our hometown Eindhoven. The first couple of years we parked at the venue, but the last mile would take us about an hour extra. So after a three years we parked our car at the edge of Essen and take the S-Bahn to central station and from there to the Messe in a very busy U-Bahn. This worked fine but we always felt we were in a rush to see everything and couldn’t play al the demo games we wanted to play. So last year we went for two days on Friday and Saturday and stayed over in an appartement, this gave us al the time we needed to realy enjoy Spiel. We booked a little late so there weren’t that much opportunities for accomodation and the commute to the venue took us quit long. For this year we already booked a hotel a couple of months ago in the neighbourhood of the U-Bahn that goes directly to the Messe for a realy good price. My mates brother is also joining us, so the more the merryer. I’m realy looking forward to going again and would love to see the OTT crew over there, just like a couple of years ago.
June 10, 2025 at 1:57 am #1932480@jeffersonpowers Crooked Dice would be fun to buy in person, I always find myself on their website, and have owned various ranges at times.
June 10, 2025 at 3:06 am #1932481@grantinvanman I’ve been buying minis from them for years, and you’re right, it was a lot of fun buying in person from their booth. They were very friendly, so much so that we stopped by the booth several times during the expo — hopefully we weren’t too much of a nuisance…

June 10, 2025 at 6:17 am #1932483Hadn’t heard of SAS Rogue Regiment so I just looked it up. Looks a lot like 0200 Hours, but coop.
Already got the DMH starter and the extra books. Do like that game even though I seldom win.
June 10, 2025 at 7:02 am #1932484@poentje getting a hotel or something close to the venue is possibly the best approach if you want to go more than one day. I’m still very much in the edge about it. Wife and daughter would be interested if it’s not “that crowded” (like I could tell that in advance XD). But if they don’t want to go I’d be tempted to go in day 1 from start to finish. But either driving myself by car to save costs or go by train to not care about traffic. Won’t be cheap either way sadly.

Pledge update: Current progress on the Shuwa Arab cavalry. Need to get some colour on them but the basic work on the horses is done now.
And Asmodee have apparently started another round of acquisitions by picking up Zombicide IP from CMON. Apparently the start of a new spree of buying up smaller producers. I wonder who is next?
June 13, 2025 at 8:36 pm #1932928I’d wonder what they’re going to do with Zombicide.
CMON tried to get a second edition going.
They also tried to do an app supported electronic version.
Maybe that IP is simply dead ?
It would be interesting to see if they’re going to reprint/re-release all those kickstarter exclusives.
However I’m not sure if there’s any profit to be had, because the folk that wanted Zombicide most likely have all they ever could want.//—
Floor tiles have arrived … time to update my project. Not quite sure how much of it I am going to use, but I’d rather have too much than one tile to few.June 15, 2025 at 1:05 am #1932987@zoidpinhead those Shuwa look awesome. Good to see something really different.
Saturday night. Game 5 of the Stanley Cup finals. The hardest trophy in professional sports to win. Series tied.
GO OILERS!
June 15, 2025 at 8:42 am #1933003Pledge update:

Painting on the Shuwa done. Glad you like the @grantinvanman 🙂 I’m really enjoying painting them. As you say it is good to be working on something different. I’ve saved the best for last, Savannah Knights are the last unit and on the painting table now. I might just get them finished by the end of the Challenge!
June 15, 2025 at 8:54 am #1933004@limburger I genuinely can’t see the value in Zombicide. It was a huge thing when the ‘Kickstarter massive numbers of miniatures boardgames’ were a big thing in the market. Now that model seems permanemtly broken with the difficulties of the Chinese manufacturing model and the rise of stl based games like Trench Crusade. Perhaps the value is in the customer data? I would expect at least one more release/re-release to cash in. They probably didn’t pay a lot so it may not take much to make the money back. It never really hit the retail market where Asmodee are very strong. Whatever happens I’m not getting it 😀
June 16, 2025 at 9:50 pm #1933142@zoidpinhead me neither.
A few of the core sets from Zombicide have hit retail. It’s where I got that Fantasy version of theirs ages ago.Biggest issue is that these are gigantic boxes and expensive games.
It’s pretty much why some form of crowdfunding is the only realistic option for that type of game, because it’s too expensive to sit on the shelves.I don’t know what gamestores are like over there, but the few we got tended to focus on CCG’s long before Covid hit, because that’s pretty damn cost effective game from a retail point of view.
GW is practically the only miniatures game out there on the shelves. Things like Marvel Crisis Protocol are too expensive and big for most stores to have in stock. Assuming they know it exists … at all.
Boardgames tend to not be bigger than Catan in terms of both box size and cost. Anything more expensive tends to be very specialist.
There definitely has to be something in either that IP or the stuff that they got with it that made it worth the money.
I guess we’ll find out as soon as Asmodee tells us anything ? (or maybe whenever OTT posts news about a new Zombicide game/version/re-release … )//
I’m about half way through my stack of floor tiles. My fingers are killing me and I haven’t had the energy to continue today.
It’s not difficult. It’s more annoying and a tiny bit frustrating as the ‘puzzle’ tiles don’t always connect as smoothly as I want them to. Of course the material is a bit rough and the fit is pretty tight, so that’s probably part of the reason.Maybe tomorrow ?
I did post a few pics in the discord channel yesterday, so there’s proof of things happening 😀
Project definitely needs an update before the spring challenge ends. I still doubt I can finish it this time around, but I got a feeling that I will get more done this time around. There’s a clear goal and I really want to do some actual hobby. 🙂I also got the box with the light-assembly (more like light-dissassembly now ha!) that was in my other project. I will have to wait and see when and how I can update that one with the current status. That project was lacking in details, so that’s going to be one of the things that need to doing as well.
