To be fair: most board games with minis and tokens have trouble getting back into the box. Especially if you grab yourself expansions.

With miniature games I have given up on “getting everything in a box”. Either the game is growing because I like it so I need bigger and bigger boxes all the time or I stopped playing and then it can be “archived” via the means “you live in the back of the cupboard”

definitely not sacrificing storage to looks …

however that doesn’t mean things should not look better than a warehouse filled with racks.

I know they make foam inserts, but they add significantly to the cost of the game.

Shouldn’t have to pay extra just because the company that makes the game does stupidly fragile poses with brittle plastic for a board game.

They are tokens to move around a board, not miniatures you paint up for a display pieces. Single piece plastics would be better.

They make all sorts of add-ons/inserts for boardgames these days …
Expensive as f*ck of course and kind of stupid as well, because (board)games should fit inside their boxes.

@pagan8th to each their own, I suppose. I treat my GW board games as a source of miniatures, with little interest in the board game aspect of it, actually. Especially the latest Dankwater, which is a fantastic supply of Nurgle goodness. I bought two boxes just for the Nurgle beasties!

Ok, I’m going to cheap out here a bit and will do a carbon copy of my blog here. But I’m really interested in your ideas:

But let’s get down to brass tacks.

When I uploaded the first video to my channel ‘SomeDudeOnYouTube’ on YouTube almost exactly seven years ago (on 18 February 2019), I never would have thought that it would develop into a hobby of its own with weekly streams on Twitch.

Well, now you could say that one of the reasons this happened was because we all had ‘nothing’ to do during the pandemic. At least in terms of our hobbies. Meeting up, playing and chatting just wasn’t possible, and to keep myself from going insane, I started the Hobby Hangout. (my Version of it)

Since I don’t earn my living with all this stuff, but do it just for fun, I am in the fortunate position of not having to chase every trend. I can make shorts or leave them. I can express myself as controversially as I want on topics, because I don’t have to worry that Alphabet/Google will demonetise my and I’ll lose my income.

Admittedly, after more than 280 episodes of Hobby Hangout, I feel like doing ‘something different’ (in the context of the miniature hobby). But I lack inspiration. [The Hobby Hangout will not go anywhere but may change in format a bit? Maybe?]

And so I pose the question into the vast, hopefully not too empty space: What would you like to see on the topic of tabletop wargaming? What is not presented often or intensively enough? What should I focus my attention and camera on?

If you have any ideas, please share them. Otherwise, I’ll have to roll the dice 😉

Firstly @sundancer thank you for the UHH.  I really enjoy the opportunity to chat about and see hobby whilst also getting some of my own done.  As to what to do next/as well?  I’m not sure you should trust us with that 😀 after all you will have to find the enthusiasm and commitment to do whatever hairbrained nonsense we concoct.

I share an interest with you which is for online written and pictured hobby content.  The UHH is focussed on reviewing the project system here and is successful in so doing – I often spot things I’ve not seen or get new ideas watching you discuss other projects.  I’m also happy to be on hand on the occasions when my stuff is shown in case there are any questions.  Perhaps every other week, or only weeks Gerry can make are better for that?  I’d like to see you use the UHH to reviewing other hobby blogs or forums too.  There is some great content out there which doesn’t get the views it should because it is only written and not associated with someone who has time or expertise to create video content too.  Some hobby folks have kept blogs for years and have done some interesting things.  There are painters/designers who also keep records of their work; Steve Dean, Agis Neugebauer etc who definitely deserve an in-depth review.

Whatever you decide to do I’m sure I’ll keep turning up to watch it.

The pandemic did not give me any time off to hobby as I was classed as essential services… I was delivering hobby to the huddled masses that were hiding behind their curtains and pointing at the doorstep because they were terrified I might be carry the plague… but that’s beside the point.

Most of what I see on youtube seems to be about unboxing, painting, terrain building, reviews, previews.

So what I would suggest, is find something you feel strongly about, or are good at, and go with that.

And just a friendly reminder “No politics!” 🙂

    Hummmm…………..

Remember how ‘Flames of War for the Win’ focused on one game and taught us just a little each time about that game.

I would enjoy watching something focused like that but about ‘Star Wars Legion’ as you have expertise on that game.

Wouldn’t have to be long but something focused on that subject every week or every other week or once a month.

    That sort of thing.

Maybe bring in some “guest stars” from the community for the weeks when Gerry can’t make it? Or even as a third voice to spur the discussion. Podcasts are usually more interesting when there are several people bouncing off each other.

@grantinvanman I don’t really get why anyone would want a nurgle army… they look like obese Vogons with acne.

    #1959255

@pagan8th don’t know what a “Vogon” is, but I have armies of all four Chaos gods. Call it a completionist thing?

Vogons – see Hitchhikers Guide Through The Galaxy.

    Good morning lads.

Thanks @sundancer – I’ve never read that series, although I always carry a white towel in my backpack …
