Happy Friday everyone. I hope those of you working today are taking it suitably easy now it is the afternoon.
@danlee well done on finishing your PaintComp entry. He looks suitably chonky. I got mine done today and have put an account into my project. He’s a Harryhausen Cyclops. Certainly the biggest thing I’ve ever painted for a wargame. Here he is towering above a Mierce Talos:

@limburger That isn’t how this works and you know it. If you are going to drop the delightful phrase:
I got all the wood
There is going to be a rejoinder. I hope your project is now suitably erected.
March 13, 2026 at 4:35 pm #1967394@zoidpinhead it’s not ?
damn … after all that hard work. 😀Which reminds me that I had other ideas that need implementing still.
I either go for white plastic edging that needs paint or something metal.Tomorrow there will be boards and games.
I am hoping to stock up on more shatterpoint if there is a firesale worthy of mentioning.March 13, 2026 at 9:11 pm #1967410@pagan8th how’s the water situation looking? Plumbing problems are the worst.
Week mostly got away from me but as of today things should be a lot more chill and hobby can retake it’s rightful place in my time. I did have a little time to sort out some Spring Clean Challenge ideas – now I just need to narrow down which ones I want to focus on.
March 13, 2026 at 10:17 pm #1967414@pagan8th Commiserations on the plumbing issues. Hopefully it will be straightforward to resolve.
@gorram Well reminded on the Spring Clean Challenge front. I hope you find something that you’ll enjoy doing. I’ve picked my theme for this year but need to have a root round in The Pile before Friday when we can start our projects. Looking forward to see what everyone else chooses. There were some corkers last year and generally this feels like one of the better supported competitions on the site. The improvements to the project system should help too as it is so much more reliable after the most recent upgrades.
March 14, 2026 at 6:19 am #1967430The plumber finally showed up. He struggled with the gland nut, it wouldn’t turn. I think his solution was to turn down the water pressure which is not a long term fix, but at least it’s not dripping.
Not sure how that will affect filling the bath, or taking a shower.
I did google and found a video on youtube on how to fix that problem, but if I try myself and apply too much brute force and ignorance I might do something disasterous and cause a burst.
If the water pressure is too low I’ll ask him to replace the packing in the stopcock.
March 14, 2026 at 2:56 pm #1967460@pagan8th or you could try and find a different plumber to solve it permanently.

I saw a really cool demo for a game called “Blood and Bamboo: Bend or Break”
– small skirmish game inspired by ‘Test of Honour’
– think ‘Frostgrave/Stargrave’ but set in Japan with samurai
– campaign is the focus with warbands gaining experience as they survive scenarios
– you activate models based on their speed/initiative rating and roll off if they are the same
– warbands have a leader and subordinate as a minimum, but are completely free in choosing what character types you bring (you can mix samurai with shinobi and monks … )
– there is always a chance to immediately kill the target
– 10 scenarios in the rules
– warbands will have a secret objective to complete within a scenario
– coming to kickstarter in the summer
– choice to buy either the rules or the starterset
– starterset will feature 2 warbands of 6 figures, rules and mdf-terrain from a 3rd party (estimated 80 Euro for the entire set)
– they’re hoping to produce everything locally
– in theory you could run a warband of 16 peasant farmers … it will be bloody if they make use of their numbers in combat )
– plans for expansions already exist, but the kickstarter will focus on getting the rules and starterset in production
They had examples of the mdf-houses, but they didn’t use them on the demo board.
It looked like a really cool game that is easy to learn.-

*cough* send tyranids *cough* 😉 @gorram
Spring clean challenge… Hm… I don’t think I have anything for that… no, nothing comes to mind. *stares at 30+ active projects on OTT alone*
No, nothing.
Also I need to start painting the chunky PaintComp entry. I’m slacking too much XD
March 14, 2026 at 6:33 pm #1967484March 14, 2026 at 9:31 pm #1967485March 14, 2026 at 11:55 pm #1967488I’d say we need to stop obsessing about ‘finishing’ stuff.
It’s a hobby.
We should be having fun.
And sometimes ‘fun’ can be as simple as dreaming about future projects instead of executing the ones we already are doing.
Doing absolutely f*ck all is not a bad thing.
Sometimes it is your body telling you that it needs to rest more. Ignore those messages and you will suffer the consequences.March 15, 2026 at 2:18 am #1967491@limburger – well said! Projects are sometimes fun when they are in the planning stages.
@gorram my Warhammer World meetup project was part-inspired by you; and I’m (with the missus) going to Edinburgh after! First time driving in the UK. Standard with shifter on the left will be … interesting …
March 15, 2026 at 11:48 am #1967522@grantinvanman given it looks like I’m not going to make it, I’m happy to think you can do it for me XD When you firm up your plans for Edinburgh, let me know if you fancy meeting for a beer or two.
March 15, 2026 at 2:24 pm #1967558@gorram – wasn’t aware your trip was off, sorry to hear; will be in touch in fall re Edinburgh! 🍻
March 15, 2026 at 4:04 pm #1967564Not 100% for sure but I’m changing work location which was going to make it a little awkward but not beyond the realms. Then I had to spend money to get my PC back working a few weeks ago so it feels out of reach now. I’m sure there will be other chances in the future.
