A Veteran Assault Tripod Walks into Stores on the Martian Front
March 27, 2015 by dracs
A new threat has risen in All Quiet on the Martian Front as the dreaded Veteran Assault Tripod gets shipped out for trade and retail.
The Veteran Assault Tripod is an example of how Martian tech develops as the war progresses. Equipped with heavier armour that repels small arms fire and an even deadlier extended lens heavy heat ray, the Veterans may be slower, but they pack one heck of a punch.
The Veteran Assault Tripod stands out from its compatriots with is extra bolted on armour plates. The paint scheme followed above picks these out in gold hues, giving the impression of it almost being decorative, like a sergeant's stripes. It actually reminds me of some of the Dalek designs we have seen on Doctor Who in the past.

How is the game? I haven’t heard too much about it
My thoughts exactly. Looks a fun genre to play.
My thoughts thrice! I had no money when they were doing the Kickstarter, or I’d probably have joined in. From what I’ve seen it looks like a really interesting game, but I haven’t seen much about it since the launch.
Now that is one seriously dangerous Tripod. The rules download released for it makes it a little slower but with better armour, and extended lens heat ray that ahs longer ranged focussed shots and really high powered sweeping shots that afford it really impressive firepower, and it even has the abilit to use reaper tentacles in assault to make a mess of infantry.
I also like the model and the colour scheme. It conveys the elite status of a Martian pilot experienced enough to warrent and upgraded Tripod, and is recogniseable at a glance on the tabletop alongside standard Assault Tripods.
As for the game itself – it is very evocative of H.G. Well’s classic novel and is great fun to play, though it isn’t balanced as a tournament system. The creators have had problems meeting all the demand from the original kickstarter campaign, and that has slowed furtehr support, but new things like the Veteran Tripod that weren’t in the original KS are beginning to emerge, and plenty more is planned for the future now that the worst of the backlog is in hand, including further rules supplements and new factions also based on Well’s stories.

I’ve played a couple of games, I’d call it a lighter system but fun. I find it quick to play because of that but as said already it probably isn’t something to play competitively. It’s pulp sci-fi B-movie stuff which gives it charm and character. Future factions include Morlocks, which made me happy.
Cute! I just keep hearing Jeff Wayne’s War of the Worlds soundtrack in my head every time I see any of this stuff.
