The Chaos All Stars 2018

About the Project
Some of my fondest memories of board games hang on one singularly game…. The game of fantasy football – Blood Bowl! Anyone my age may recall the original card standee game, then the version with a polystyrene pitch, all the way up to the current iteration. One thing however has plagued me over the years, my desire to field the Chaos All Stars. Now back in the day, a friend of my brother called “dibs” on the All Stars, and as a result he got to essentially be them through all the different versions of the game. Now back then, none of us could paint – our chosen method / materials was to buy the small Humbrol paints (probably lead lined, and toxic) and then sharpen a matchstick to use as a brush (we were poor!). But for some reason the coach of the All Stars too me seemed like the worst of us in terms of skill. His approach was to paint the lower half red, the top half green, and add a bit of flesh paint for a face or a hand etc. He once did elevate his painting style to incorporate brown if it was so desired. I would look on thinking “I can’t paint, but I could do a better job than that”, now fast forward to the present (well technically we are in the present, what I had done there was rewind to the past) but I digress….and I have decided for no other reason than to right that child hood wrong, to buy, build, paint, and field a Classic All Star team.

This Project is On Hold
Step 15
I regret marking this project as complete because I am beginning to think it never well be!
While I am awaiting either Forgeworld to release some Chaos Star Players, or Willy Minatures to open their pledge manager, I have been looking about seeing what additional stuff I can add to the All Stars.
I am currently bidding on a Chaos themed pitch on ebay, and have picked up some of the DoomLord tokens / balls etc.
I also saw these on Forgeworld, so I think when payday rolls around I shall be picking up a set of Chaos Cheerleaders!
Going to have to do a bit of research on how they have done the bases as I really like this look.
Step 14....
Yeah, I know my previous update was entitled “Step 13 – The End”, but to quote John Rambo “NOTHING, NOTHING Is over!”.
I allueded to the fact that Willy Minatures have a Kickstarter up at the moment for their Chaos Team 2.0 (they also have a Human Team which look pretty nice as well), I have decided to pledge a Euro (payday is few days away!) before the kickstarter closes to get access to the PM when it opens.
Time I await Forge World releasing the extra Chaos Star Players, I have my eyes on these 3, which I think will do very nicely as proxy miniatures for Withergrasp Doubledrool, Goobler Grimlich and the Khorne Chaos spawn guy whose name escapes me.
These aren’t due to arrive until March 2019, so what I am saying is that there maybe a Chaos All Star Project 2019 launching early next year!
Especially if Forge World get some star players out in the meantime.
If you have an interest in all things Chaotic and prepared to wait, I recommend checking out the Kickstarter – I think it closes tomorrow.
Step 13 - The End?
Finally completed here are some pics of The All Stars in all their Gory – sorry Glory!
Next steps – well Willy Minatures have a Chaos Team Kickstarter going that features a lot of cool looking star players. We wait to see what Forge World produce for the current crop of Star Players that are out there.
But in the meantime, I am going to see if I can get these bad boys to the table
Step 12
One guy left.
And I really cannot track down a player to fill the role of Duke Luthor Von Hawkfire.
I eventually after much soul searching – yes I really am that invested in this now! Opt for a Doom Lord.
largely because I can get one for 4 quid off ebay.
It’s the closet I can get to the look of Von Hawkfire, well at least the helmet is!
Step 11
Currently we are left with two outstanding players.
Duke Luthor we have tried to recreate through various means, and we also need a Dirty Dan – the classic Goblin catcher / thrown player.
I see one I like on Comixninos, but he is going to cost 8 Euros plus P&P.
However we see a set of 4 GW Gobbos on Ebay for 8 quid all in.
That’s an easy choice, and to be fair I really like the mini that I picked from the 4.
Step 10
A lizardman and ratman walk into a bar….
The All Star fluff makes numerous mentions of a snake man, Phil Lewis converted a human lineman into a snake headed guy.
I couldn’t get a Snakeman, so I opted for a Lizardman instead.
Not really sure how well that fits in, but I certainly like the minature!
Step 9
We take a bit of time out to admire our work so far….
Step 8
Duke Luthor arrived, and I totally overlooked the fact that he was produced in the old scale back in 1988.
He is far to small to use now.
But we do get ourselves a Troll and a Minotaur. Both from Willy Minatures.
Both however require extensive work as they just don’t fit together well.
A trip to the Warhammer shop in Newcastle and I have my first experience with Liquid Green Stuff!
