About the Project

HeroQuest is a much loved game in the family and we play it often, I have for quite some time now tossed with the idea of painting it and given the spring clean challenge and the lockdown now seems like the right time.

Saw this on eBay and it felt like a great display piece for the hobby lodge.

Star Hat miniatures released via Kickstarter a range of HeroQuest alternative miniatures… Think HeroQuest cross Howard the Duck.

So of course I had to pick them up and add them to the collection.

So in the last update, I became aware of these companion books for HeroQuest thanks to the very kind gift of another CoG. Well, my wife this morning has just surprised me with the Barbarian book which is extremely rare, very happy to now have both of these books leaving only one more to hunt down.

So not only have I had great feedback and comments on this project I have also been sent an awesome gift… something I did not even know existed.

@thedace on the discord reached out having found this book in their house and kindly sent it to me after seeing the work I put into the project.

This book I never knew was a thing but from what I can understand is there are 2 (so I will now be hunting for the second) but they are akin to fighting fantasy books of the time but with elements to be played out in the HeroQuest game as a solo player.

I love how there is no way I could have gotten this by any other means than someone seeing this project, knowing that I have a passion for the game and sending it to me. I know this must be rare but it will be something that will now be loved by me, my kids and beyond.

@thedace you are awesome, thank you!

So did I ruin a classic or complete a childhood dream

Some final thoughts and stats…

Time to Completion = 11 Days (roughly 25 hours of effort)

Streamed = 20 Hours of content (+ 5 hours off camera)

Painted = 68 Miniatures + 13 Furniture Miniatures (82 Total)

Acheivements = Twitch Affiliate Status, First ever Twitch Subscriber

I was hesitant right at the start of this taking such an iconic game and put my amateur painting skills to it, since completing I have had one person tell me I should not have done it and I have ruined a classic and I guess in some ways I have… But this game was never going to leave the family and I actually hope it goes down through my kids and beyond, and if in the future someone says “you know what your grandad or great grandad painted this.. shall we play it” then whatever realm I am in by then it will make me smile.

Thanks to everyone that has viewed the project and given me the time to click a few of the buttons on the posts, and a special thanks to those that came over to the stream and kept me company.

See you all again soon I hope, big love… Martin (Laughingboy)
