27 Nov 22: Things already not going to plan...
In January 2022, I was wandering around a store, as you do, not looking for anything particular. I wandered past the clearance table and spotted some left over Christmas decorations. These baubles were of a particular shape that immediately put an idea into my head for the following festive season.
An Icosahedron! The classic Christmas decoration, right?
You can probably see where I’m going with this, so we’ll skip on.
I picked up 8 of these. 4 to give to my D&D crew, and the other 4 for my own decoration collection.
Not knowing how they’d take paint etc in their current state, I had the idea to seal them first, then paint/ decorate over the top.
I'd previously purchased this can of Crystal Kote for an unrelated project. I thought this would seal the decorations and give us a surface to start decorting on but...
Ah what?!? The colours ran faster than Rudolph on Christmas night... I guess the carrying agent in the spray just dissolved the cheap paint.Previously: Silver, Red, Geen, White.
At least the white stayed white X-D
19 Dec 22: Decorate the Decorations
Despite the hiccup with the (un)fixative spray, I wanted to keep going.
I recruited my daughter for assistance and we spent an afternoon doing a shared craft activity.
Over the next couple of hours we used acrylic paint, Sharpies and other permanent markers and Posca paint pens. I did one for my own collection, then moved on to start those for my D&D group. My daughter did the other three that I intended for us to keep.
We got so into it, I forgot to take progress shots, but see the finished products! This year I didn’t have room for a full-size tree, so I had to come up with something else. I struck upon the bright idea of decorating the shelves that are in my living room instead and putting the presents below that. So now you can make see my fun decorations, and pass judgement on my taste in entertainment!
The four that will go to the D&D party, one each. Permanent marker, black acrylic paint, bronze Sharpie, white Posca penSo, they haven’t got them yet. First session will be in the second week of January most likely. I hope they’ll like them! But for now, we’re done.
