Don't Worry About Him, He's 'Armless
Next up today was this horrendous specimen. Some kind of vampire with no arms. Again, I stuck with the blue colour to give them all a little bit of uniformity. I also used the same leather and dirty canvas scheme too. For his base, I used some bits from an old Archon Studios sprue and did the same gore effect using a bit of red paint mixed with some Vallejo clear water texture. This ensures it stays looking slimy and horrific even when it dries. You There! Back On The Table!
I love this guy, and I wanted to do something cool on his base. I made a little drain/grill on the floor, covered it in gore, and added a victim's hand desperately clawing at the air in a futile attempt at escape. I clipped the hand from a GW Nighthaunt model.Dreaded Assembly
I hate assembling models. Like, to the point I won't start projects because of it. When I paint for other people I ask for things assembled and primed ready. But you know what, these were a joy. 2 of them were all in 1 piece, the butcher guy just needed his arms sticking, and the big gribbly had only 4 easy parts to glue. Now I just have to clean them up and prime them. Mrs Beaky Face
I love her I love her I love her. From the dramatically swishy coat, to the fancy hat, and the jaunty beak, she’s perfect. It’s a gorgeously detailed model.
I decided on blue for her coat. She looks like she’s got attitude, and I felt a nice rich blue had the right kind of sass for her swish. I worked a few glazes over the base colour to really pick out the natural curves and creases of the fabric.
For the hat, gloves, and boots, I went for a basic black for contrast.
The trousers are a weathered leather look, with gold/brass detailing. She’s wearing a white, high-collared shirt. I added gold buckles and catches to the coat, and picked out the mask in the same leather as her trousers. Wipe clean fabric is always good when you’re murdering people horribly, after all.
She came with a lovely cobblestone base, so I picked out the stones in a couple of shades of grey plus a highlight. Then I added some tiny loose stones. I always like to do this on anything cobbled, as I think it gives it another shade of realism. I’m toying with the idea of some blood splatters on the street, but for now, I’m calling her done.
I love this game!
I was really drawn to this game the minute I saw it. The whole aesthetic is just right up my street. A good friend (and customer) of mine is currently running a campaign of Lamentations of The Flame Princess, in which I play a plague doctor, and he was kind enough to buy me the female plague doctor mini for Carnevale. He then gave me a crew to go with her. We’re planning on running some demo games when we get everything painted and ready to go, so me and Darren can see if there’s enough interest in it locally to make it worth stocking. I offered to paint my friends figures too, as a thank you for buying mine. Fairs fair.
