About the Project

Voidfighters is the new game from the designer of Space Weirdos. This is a little project about painting up some ships from Brigade Models so I am ready to hit the ground running on this one.

Earlier in the year I picked up a bunch of starship miniatures and a whole host of rulesets. The principle aim being to try A Billion Suns. I also fancied a bit of a Star fighter dogfight kind of game which is when Voidfighters popped up. As soon as I realised who the designer was it was an instant preorder.

I have a bunch of fighters built and primed. It was time to start slapping some colours on.

Having primed with a white rattlecan primer a while ago I was able to jump straight into basecoating.

To keep things simple I did one colour all over. It took a couple of coats.

Method and sequence

Once the base coat dried I had a crack at doing a little panel lining, which I had never tried before. I have some oil brushes from ammo which I thinned down with odourless white spirit. I used small metal dishes to mix these in, one per colour.

The first ones I did without varnish. Big mistake. So for all the others I vanished then applied the oil wash.

Method and sequence

After the panel lining I used some Gundam paint pens to add a few simple details.

That’s all the x-wing scale fighters done. Just the fleet scale and the retro rockets left to do.

Being quite flat these were a bit awkward to take pictures of with my limited setup.
